CPAC Chairman: Palin Not Ready for Presidential Run

Thursday, July 9, 2009 8:27 AM

By: Ronald Kessler

Sarah Palin needs to stop whining about unfair media coverage and get over the fact that some people don’t like her, Dave Keene, chairman of the American Conservative Union, tells Newsmax.

Palin doesn’t seem to get that politics is a tough game, says Keene, one of the country’s most astute political observers.

The American Conservative Union, with 1 million members, runs the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington and publishes an annual "Rating of Congress," the gold standard for ideological assessments of members of Congress.

“You’ve got to recognize that there are people who want you to fail,” Keene says. “And if you spend your time worrying about them, or whining about what they say, at the very least it’ll get you off your game, because you ought to be worried about what you’re going to do, not about what they’re going to do to you.”

Resigning as governor of Alaska only compounded Palin’s problems, which have been accumulating since the November election, Keene says.

“In the period leading up to the resignation, she needed to get over the fact that people didn’t like her,” Keene says. “Get over the fact that she harbored resentment for the McCain people that used her. All of those things are true, but she got more out of it than they did, and she had to begin to move on with what she needed to establish in terms of her own image, to move to the next level. And she delayed doing that.

"Now it becomes more difficult because of the way in which she bailed out on the governorship.”

David Keene, Managing Associate of the Carmen Group Lobbying Firm, and Head of CPAC, Alexandria, VA.

Political contributions in 2008 election cycle:

KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 5/1/07 $1,000 Specter, Arlen (R)

KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 12/19/07 $800 Specter, Arlen (R)

KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 12/19/07 $200 Specter, Arlen (R)

Add to this the fact that this bum also endorsed Romney in December 2007 and you got a guy that has "part of the problem" stamped on his forehead.

DO NOT DONATE TO CPAC!

I wonder if there should be a FReePAC, hosted down the street from CPAC, at the same time, with Sarah Palin as keynote speaker?

The same CPAC where Romney routinely buses in people to vote in the yearly straw poll?

Palin doesn’t seem to get that politics is a tough game, says Keene, one of the country’s most astute political observers.

Let's see, crapped on by advisers, leakers, and handlers during a run for VPOTUS, played hardball cleaning up corruption in Alaska government, dealt with FIFTEEN suprious ethics investigations while Governor of the largest state in the union, and has been the brunt (with her family) of every imaginable disrespect the Left can offer, but according to this "most astute" political observer, she "doesn't seem to get that politics is a tough game"?

Oh she gets it, alright.

What this so 'astute' observer doesn't get is that she hasn't quit yet, and all this blather won't make one whit of difference.

CPAC just dropped a few points imho for having a dunce for a chairman.

‘Palin doesn’t seem to get that politics is a tough game’

She ‘gets it’ because she knows it’s not a ‘game it’s instinctual. In practically every species its the females that you don’t want to mess with.

FU CPAC.
FU Keene.

I'm sick of the status quo as far as politics are concerned. Big Government has gotten too big for its britches.

Oh, and in case it needs repeating, FU Romney.

I don't think he trashed Sarah. :) He merely observed and said what he thought.

Yup. The GOP establishment seems to be good at picking RINOs.

“Reality is Governor Palin, while the victim of vicious attacks, has a lot of work to do.”

Yes she does. Does Sarah Palin seem like the kind of person
that shuns hard work?

I think not.

“You’ve got to recognize that there are people who want you to fail,”

I’m sure Palin appreciates the advice of Keene.

Perhaps Keene could mail her an action plan for running for political office since Keene seems to be the expert with his many years of running for office and holding public exectutive experience.

You're not alone, MadIsh32.

I love Sarah, and hope she can do a world of good for the conservative cause.

Whether as Prez or not.

Bingo! Like I said CPAC is where Romney brings in his own voters to assure a win in the straw poll, yet they are now talking about being able to find a venue larger enough to host Palin in Iowa — when did you hear them worry about a large enough venue for Romney??

While I agree with the guy on some points, this is consummately unprofessional IMO.

We are years away from the next Presidential bid, and these folks are doing their damnedest to destroy Palin’s standing. I do not understand the driving force behind this stupidity.

If you don’t think she’s ready, then don’t support her. Don’t try to destroy her eventual ability to run for the Presidency. And that really is what is going on here.

This guy wants her shut down now. While I disagree with her actions last week stridently and have said so, this sniping is unforgivable.

Hey Keene. Screw you big mouth!

What an interesting thread. I had thought it would be a while before the ‘we suck less so vote for us’ crowd came out from under their respective rocks.

Come on Neoliberalnot,
Look at what the GOP has nominated in the last few presidential elections. A very old Bob Dole and a very old RINO turd Juan Mclame. Also the “compassionate conservative”.
Only way to get the GOP nod is through strings with papa or being in the party since the redwoods were planted by GOD.
Cuda needs to go her own way.

I missed the part where Keene or CPAC offered to help her financially or politically help her battle with the Dems or the MSM.

Typical Repugs.
