UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.
ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.
The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.
Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

she’s running for POTUS 2012 .. guaranteed.
“Her resignation speech today sounded like a shot over the bow to initiate her Presidential campaign.”
I haven’t seen it yet but not surprised at all!!
Very well said my FRiend!
VERY well said!
WOW, Here is Glenn Beck’s take on all this: Twitter 1 min ago:
glennbeckTrue about Palin dropping out and stepping down. GOOD. Get out of the system. Be a CREATIVE extremist as MLK said.
Again, I'm sorry you feel that way and find it necessary to attack someone so personally because they may have a particular thought about a current event which you find disagreeable. If you take issue about my comment, so be it. But, there's no reason to call each other names.
Yes, I'm a new member of FR, but that hardly means I'm a newly minted conservative. I joined because the nationalized health care push would probably put me, and my 45 employees out of business and I felt compelled to start fighting for the business I own and the people I employ.
I would invite you to look through my very limited posting history to find anything remotely liberal, or even moderate. I cast my first vote for Ronald Reagan in the spring of 1976, the first year I was eligible to vote. And, I've never looked back since.
Excellent points!
Was she sober or drunk?
God bless Sarah Palin, she is the ONLY F’ing one with the BALLS to do what has to be done over the next 6-8 months.
Hold on to your hats folks “All Palin is about to break loose.”
Sarah Baracuda is on the way.
Quoting "achance" at Redstate.com:
"Sarah Palin now belongs to the Nation"
This is the beginning.
...IBD said that Exxon Mobil has the toughest investment standards in the entire industry and to get them to sign on was a real mind blower.
This is EXTREMELY significant. In this climate of cap and trade, Palin may have just got a deal which will be instrumental in turning the whole charade around for the entire USA.
Palin is NOT a clown. She's NOT a soap opera queen. I've always said that Palin is about OIL. She may see her work in Alaska done now with this deal. Now her sights are on the entire country.
“Sarah isnt quitting anything. Shes just prepping for a new battlefield.”
Exactly right! And I’ll help all I can. Just donated to SarahPAC and her legal defense fund.

For now I take her at her word, I don't know if it will work out for her but I think it may have been a calculated risk she needed to take if she really wanted to move forward on the national level. It appears that Obama is truly making a mess of things and this may just be a minor bump because the way things are going to country will be looking for anything but Obama in 2012 may believe she has made a principled move.
I think it’s good for her right now.
See my long post above ... ;)
I only like it in that I make money off it from a couple of questionable websites I run.
Well, let's be candid. Washington, like all but one of the signers of the Declaration, owned slaves. I'm quite sure he never either picked cotton or mashed corn for his distillery, either before he stood for the Presidency or after.
Having said that, I do understand the point you're making.
If she’s getting out; I don’t blame her one bit. I wouldn’t want my children dragged through a cesspool like Washington, either. It just isn’t worth it...
Palin talking now, with what appears to be a dolphin in the background.
Palin’s brother talks to Stuart Varney on her decision
She can also write books detailing her expertise in various areas such as foreign policy and fiscal policy, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that she knows what she is talking about. And with the current N00b in office it could be a very effective method of beginning her run for the Presidency.
She is also free to speak at every opportunity presented by Repubs in order to pay her dues as well as fill the venues to overflowing.
I would also expect to hear that a think tank had hired her or perhaps one had been formed to provide her with folding cash as she takes on the Zero.
I think that it is very likely that the Demos are about to learn a hard lesson in “unintended consequences”.
God bless you Sarah and your family.
