UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.
ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.
The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.
Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

Well, he does Romney no favors playing those games.
You would think people would realize that tearing down one of those we like, makes us defend them, not turn against them.
I like Sarah, I will like Sarah no matter what any say. I saw something in Sarah I liked and I don’t see that in the other politicians.
Note to Ms. Mitchell: I think you just outsmarted yourself.
I hope Andrea is wrong.
And Andrea Mitchell is your lodestar because she has been riht so many, many times in the past?
She’s an ‘effin’ dem hack and has always been one.
sheesh
Interesting perspective.
Let's take that question into context.
Palin has just bailed out. That much we know.
Being "for" Palin is now, it seems, a moot point.
And consider yourself fortunate for I do not often answer questions from six-month n00bs.
Whoa...just walked in the house to this news.
Not sure what to think yet- especially after finding out she’s handing over to the lt gov...
I don’t think in a million years anyone close to Sarah Palin would be a confident of that #itch Andrea Mitchell.
Only proof you need of how afraid the msm and liberal elites are of Sarah Palin was all the attacks they tried at her. The Vanity fair article is clear proof.
She could be planning to prepare herself to run for president. The media is brutal and unfair.
She said “It’s been pretty insane” as governor. Palin was treated worse than most people in politics. Just saying.
Good lord, this thread is a@@deep in noobs and trolls.....how to I get a job trolling DU?
LOL....Best to ignore them or report them if they get out of hand.
Or, you could be like me, and get banned after my 4th post. I got my money’s worth on those 4 though. Fun times.
Does that mean I have to stop watching Lockdown and To Catch a Predator Marathons??? :-(
Good grief, are there any attractive liberals? No wonder they’re so bitter and angry.
i think your post was meant for someone else.....i agree with you
Yup. I don’t know if she has a plan (or a chance) for a Presidential bid in the near future, but she does have a place on the national stage and deservedly so.
Please be so.
Can't remember when I have been this disappointed before.
Now, she will have a harder driving the rest of the Rebuplicans to the right.
They'll just try to out 0bama 0bama.
Sarah, go national and fast.
Amd people don't think Romney bailed out? He bailed out too as governor in 2005 to run for President.
I agree.
I listed to the speech—well, what they aired on FOX, and it sounds to me as if she thinks that Alaskans would be better served if they had a governor that could actually concentrate on doing that job, instead of consistently having to fight ethics complaints, etc. on the their dime.
The left may be celebrating that they were able to force Gov. Palin out of politics, but they really should be careful what they wish for. I think this is quite possibly a whole new beginning. Perhaps she really is our present day Esther. We will soon find out.
Mitchell is a propagandist.
I would be less concerned IF
She was on the oil and gas comission and when she didn’t get what she wanted - she quit. The publicity gave her a good start on her run for Gov.
Don’t know if that trick will work twice.... esp with 3 years before the election.
Chris Hansen: “Take a seat and watch MSDNC.”
How about some psychological double-speak ... perhaps those in the Palin camp did tell Mitchell what she claims, but did so in order to get the presswhores to sniff somewhere else. What do you think?
