UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.
ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.
The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.
Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

Even though I believe that she is leaving politics, I certainly put NO credibility in anything Mitchell has to say about Palin. How the heck would she know? Wishful thinking IMO.
I hope Andrea is wrong.
If she did it next weekend I’d bet you’d still be whining.
And why does she have to cater to the media?
I suggest she never tell them anything - work through the internet.
Just maybe, she will corral our efforts to find, recruit, and promote conservative candidates, and to reveal and clean up the corruption in Washington. She would have tons of followers - we just need a leader.
Oh, yes.
Brothers on blogs are the most credible kind.
YOU again? Seems you’re against everyONE and everyTHING.
What are you FOR? WHO are you FOR?
FWIW, I think if the gov was planning on leaving politics, she’d’ve said so.
She’s wrong. Andrea didn’t listen to her speech at all. She said she will work to support people who want to serve in and out of Alaska.
Because nobody has ever won a major elective office without catering to the media. If she’s out for good, then obviously she doesn’t need to cater to the media, but she should be aware that failing to provide a plausible explanation will result in wild speculation in the media.
“Good lord, this thread is a@@deep in noobs and trolls.....how to I get a job trolling DU?”
LOL....Best to ignore them or report them if they get out of hand.
Somewhat promising. Thanks for the info.
“Sarah isnt quitting anything. Shes just prepping for a new battlefield.”
Excellent.
So she says. If Andrea told me the sky was blue, I’d go out and look just to be sure.
As much as she loves her state, she's free. Lots of people pronouncing her political demise right now. They thought that about her when she resigned as Oil & Gas Commissioner as well. Frank Murkowki was left wondering what hit him a little later. LOL.
She said a few weeks ago, "Politically, if I die, I die." My ears should have perked up a little more when she said that. Whatever happens to her from here forward, she'll be at peace with it. That comes from her faith. God bless her.
Yeah, and I have sources in the Obama White House. /s
He likes Flipper McRomney’s underwear fetish?
Right. Because as a lame duck she won’t be able to accomplish anything else during her term.
By turning it over to Parnell, he can run as a sitting governor, he will have political capital to accomplish goals for Alaska, and he will likely win. This gives Palin good protection from the rear as she advances on national politics.
Consider if a Dem wins Alaska governor’s race. Endless stream of BS will come out of Alaska about Palin.
I think it’s a shrewd move on her part and I support her.
Seriously, Freepers need to stop watching MSDNC.
>>>Whatever happens, I doubt that Palins political career is over. I think it may only just be beginning, in fact.
I’d lov e to see her tell the Republican party to screw themselves and run an honest, conservative platform - one that stands up for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness - smaller government, lower taxes...
