UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.
ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.
The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.
Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

lol!!!
Like saying one thing while doing another, as you criticize Governor Palin for not being faithful to her oath?
That's rich.
Or locking and loading, metaphorically speaking.
:)
laff away, only God knows what the future might bring.
I would say that is above your pay grade, and by a fairly wide margin.
This bitch has been attacking Palin constantly.
Here is her picture.
He's as subtle as a grenade.
She recently spent time in Europe around members of the U.S. military, and I have to wonder if perhaps she reflected on the possibility that events will destabilize in conventional politics, with more and more of a rationale for a new third party. That thought process would have already started, of course.
She would perhaps be thinking of spending a year or two cultivating that possibility under the cover of being a more general campaigner for fiscal restraint and accountability, and then could be thinking of moving forward to a third party convention with other political mavericks around perhaps early 2011.
Just a thought, reading between the lines. If she really wants to work on a new course of action in American politics, she needs to be free from her duties in Alaska, because there isn't much more support she could gain there, and the constant trips down to the lower 48 would compromise her financially as well as in her Alaskan duties.
Predictions are off the table at this stage because, frankly, nobody can foresee the eventual course of the Obama presidency. He could crash and burn in public opinion very soon, or he could manage to build a stronger base and be locked into 2012, but also there are more disturbing possibilities.
You also have to consider that she knows of some further news story to come, that would place family members back in the spotlight, and perhaps they have all had enough of it for a while.
Because things are so unpredictable, Palin’s future is a function of the uncertainties in the current political situation to some extent. Will Obama be forced to the sidelines before 2011? Will the American economy survive the current difficulties or will there be a deeper social crisis to follow? Is there about to be a constitutional crisis based on perceptions in the “red states” that the federal balance of power has shifted too much to Washington?
Whatever happens, I doubt that Palin’s political career is over. I think it may only just be beginning, in fact.
Yes, and what is it they hate?
A woman who does not tow the abortion line, a woman that wants conservative values and wants to take on Washington, a woman with great talents at connecting with the “heart of America” people.
And that scares them to death. She is the closest to Reagan and they have seen her immediate draw on TV.
If they are against something - take a better look at what it is.
Snort.
:-)
Andrea Mitchell didn’t listen to Sarah.
Andrea in wishful thinking mode
Someone needs to cover her with balloons again to get her to shut up.
Sarah transcends the office she holds, that is why it doesnt help her to be governor.
This makes more sense to me than any other speculation.
Listening to her pre-recorded press statement now on the Hannity show. Apparently, she followed that up with a tweet, which she ended with the words, "It's good. Stay tuned."
That's pretty upbeat, and a signal that there is some announcement up the road that will delight us.
Baloney. You guys will pick at anything to discredit her. She is the future of the GOP........get used to it FRiend
ADN article has her saying she had decided not run for reelection and so she quit so she wouldn’t be a lame duck for a year and a half. I agree with you about the perception of quitting. This is a dumb move.
That was not a “woe-is-me” speech. Get lost troll.
I believe you are right! As well, she is thinking about what is best for this country. One thing people, knee-jerk reactionaries, don't understand or know about Sarah Palin is that she is trying to "do the right thing", a foreign concept to many involved in politics.
You too, bro - good to know the oldtimers are still out there. Was really worried about Nitz!
These are very dangerous and unconventional times. She also lives in a state that is far from the center of mass of the USA. While she's taking a risk I think it's perhaps her best opportunity to make her next significant step. She's a great lady, wants the best for the country and has a vision. She'll make the right choices. Give it time.
Good lord, this thread is a@@deep in noobs and trolls.....how to I get a job trolling DU?
