WASHINGTON -- Responding to criticism from a Senate Democratic ally, President Obama explained why he fired the Inspector General of the AmeriCorps without the 30-day notification required by law, calling Gerald Walpin so "confused" and "disoriented" that there was reason to question "his capacity to serve."
In a letter to the bipartisan leaders of the Senate Committee that oversees AmeriCorps, Obama listed these alleged defects in Walpin's leadership as an Inspector General.
* Removed after unanimous request from the AmeriCorps board of directors
* At May, 20, 2009, board meeting Walpin "was confused, disoriented and unable to answer questions and exhibited behavior that led the board to question his capacity to serve."
* The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California complained about Walpin's conduct to the IG oversight board and alleged he withheld exculpatory evidence.
* Walpin had "been absent from the Corporation's headquarters, insisting upon working from his home in New York over the objection" of the board.
* He "exhibited a lack of candor in providing material information to decision makers."
* He "engaged in other troubling and inappropriate conduct."
* He "had become unduly disruptive to agency operations, impairing his effectiveness."

Removed after unanimous request from the AmeriCorps board of directors
So.... If I’m ever accused of a crime, by this logic, I can “unanimously” ask that the accuser be dismissed and all charged rendered null.... nice.
This reminds me I saw Valkyre last night.
I thought it was actually pretty good.
Really? I saw him on Fox & Friends yesterday and he seemed quite lucid and eloquent.
When are people going to wake up to the smooth talking dictator THEY elected? (Purely rhetorical question.)
Swarming against Letterman worked.
Let’s help the IG defend himself. He’s standing up strongly and we need to help him, IMO. Maybe the ping lists could broadcast this?
If we swarm the news outlets demanding in-depth coverage we might just get some and not allow zer0 to sweep this under the rug.
The war on the corrupt double-standard culture continues.
The double-standard must die.
WRONG. 30-day notice is the law, and not an option. If the guy was really a screw-up, which he is most definitely not according to all of the sources I read, then he would be suspended with pay, not asked to resign or be fired in an hour's time.
Asking for his resignation is the most egregious, but slandering the guy to cover Obama's ass is the worst.
We can f**king see right through him!!
So is this “Walpingate”?
Isn’t that the truth.
Hard to believe I wish Hillary was president, LOL.
In BO’s defense he was probably confused and dazed — mistook the IG for Mr. confused and disoriented himself — Joe Biden.
” ‘Removed after unanimous request from the AmeriCorps board of directors’ Aren’t they the ones being investigated?”
BINGO! As Walpin is quoted above, he’s a target now:
“Walpin told POLITICO. ‘Theres nothing confusing about malfeasance and theres nothing confusing about what appears to be the fact that they terminated me because I was doing my job because the White House wanted to protect people who proclaim they are friends of the White House.’”................
Mr. Hare:
In light of the illegal firing of Inspector General Gerald Walpin by President Obama, I'd like to know where you stand on the issue. As I'm sure you already know, Mr. Walpin's firing suspiciously coincided with the IG's investigation of Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson (a friend of Obama) and his misuse of taxpayer funds via AmeriCorps. As I'm sure you also know, the POTUS alone does not have the power to immediately remove an IG for any reason. By law, Congress must be given a 30-day notice to review President Obama's claims of Mr. Walpin being "confused and disoriented" and that there was reason to question his "capacity to serve." I've seen Mr. Walpin interviewed a few times in the past couple of days, and he's incredibly lucid and very well spoken. Not only for a man of his age, but anyone young or old.
So in ending, do I (along with all justice seeking Americans) have your support? Mr. Walpin may be a Republican, but he's hardly a partisan right-winger (his support of Judge Sotomayor for the SCOTUS comes to mind). In his tenure as IG, Mr. Walpin has investigated members of both parties sans political bias. He has lived up to his responsibilities as IG, and I hope you keep the aforementioned points in mind when making your decision. Thank you.

I think that many do not fully understand the implications of what you mention.
As an American Citizen, I (you) no longer have any legal 'standing' in a court of law, against any elected official.
We were told prior to election day, that we couldn't demand it (birth cert.) because he wasn't President yet.
Now we are told we can't demand it because he is President.
Federal Transparency - More Broken Promises?
The story, however, is not just one of fraud and abuse. The misuse of the money occurred when Mr. Johnson was the director of the nonprofit that received the Americorps money; when he was elected mayor, the penalties (suspension from receiving federal funds and the repayment of some of the money he had laundered) were suspended by the Attorney General, who began to communicate directly with the Corporation instead of through Inspector General Walpin, as protocol dictates.
I added the bold.
“Walpin “was confused, disoriented and unable to answer questions and exhibited behavior that led the board to question his capacity to serve.”
Apparently Walpin believed in the concept of “absolute truth”.
Hitler.
Hister.
Hussein.
It’s a jigsaw puzzle.
Well, it is an 'interpretation' given later after discussions with legal staff, to the media.
Here is another way to say it.
"Eisen said that the board called Walpin in to nail him on the Johnson episode. Johnson was a 'homey' and you'd better not diss someone else's homey.
Walpin was in complete shock that the BOD would criticize his following the rules and law in doing his job that he didn't know what to say.
As they continued to slam him for what he did, and even made personal slams (racist remarks), Walpin becamed angered, and started yelling back.
The board then decided they had 'had' enough, and called Michelle (she likes Mr. Johnson).
You know the rest of the story.
(My best to you and the missus)
So who’s overseeing the Americorps case now?
