Glenn Greenwald passes along a clip of Richard Wolffe discussing his new Barack Obama biography, “Renegade,” on G. Gordon Liddy’s talk show, in an interview that rather quickly dovetails into Liddy’s conspiracy theories about Obama’s citizenship.

LIDDY: You mentioned distractions. One of these distractions right now is these lawsuits that take the position that he is not constitutionally eligible to be president of the United States because he is not a naturally-born citizen. Now, he could clear that up in an instant by producing a genuine birth certificate. And yet he refuses to do it. He says he has one but he won’t do it. What is behind that? Hubris or what? WOLFFE: Well, I’m going to differ with you on this one. This came up during the campaign. A copy of the birth certificate is out there. Anyone can see it. He was born in Hawaii. There are documents from the state of Hawaii that prove it. I don’t know what else you really expect me to do.

LIDDY: Well, here’s the thing. The document you speak of is a “certificate of live birth,” which is not a birth certificate. You can’t get a passport with that, you can’t even register your kids…

WOLFFE: Yes you can. That’s what I do. That’s what everyone does. The certificate of live birth is exactly what you get a passport with.

LIDDY: No, it’s a birth certificate.

WOLFFE: That’s — the copy of the birth certificate, everyone has copies of birth certificates. They use them all the time. Nobody hands out the one original document.

LIDDY: No, I wouldn’t expect them to.

WOLFFE: When you go to the DMV you take a copy with you. You don’t take the real… and it’s an official copy, it has to be embossed and stamped, it’s not just like a xerox. But that’s what it is, and it’s widely accepted.

LIDDY: Why is it redacted? Why is it redacted?

WOLFFE: I haven’t seen any redactions.

LIDDY: The one that’s on the internet, that’s the one that I’ve seen, and that one has the serial number redacted.

WOLFFE: I have no idea. I’ve seen one with serial numbers on it and everything. So I don’t know what the problem is here. Do you have an idea of where he was born if it wasn’t in Hawaii?

LIDDY: Yeah, there’s an affidavit from his grandmother that says that she observed the birth in Mombassa, Kenya.

WOLFFE: Yeah. You know, I just think that that is completely false.

The only quote I remember, by some State official (Secretary of Health Services - or some such title) in Hawaii, was that 'they had documentation that showed Mr. Obama had been born'....They garbled it up in government-speak - but that's essentially all that was said. All they had to have said is what you just said: 'Obama was born in Hawaii when it was a state'.
I've never seen that quote from the State of Hawaii. If you have the link - please provide it.

Baptismal Certificate, which was enough to get my county to issue a birth

That’s not even a Certificate of Live birth, it’s merely a document proving I was baptized and it was good enough.

My point being, don’t waste time and energy going after Obama directly on this, but rather, go after our own GOP on the certifiGate. Make them work, make them defend our constitution. Otherwise, fire them, cut off funding, etc.

Beck has mentioned it a couple of times... during a couple of the “conspiracy theory” sections... basically saying if you don’t want theses theories out there... prove them wrong. Hannity mentioned it off hand in sort of the same context.

Point is, the “BC” item has not nor will it go away, a lot of people are starting to pay attention to the matter, especially since the admin is starting to get caught in more and more underhanded and backroom deals and it seems like every day someone else jumps on the “BC” band wagon.

Playing the Devil's Advocate here. Barry could argue of course he was "naturally" born, of a woman, and not a test tube baby, so he qualifies :-D

But, it is without question, that the "Certification of Live Birth" AKA "Short Form Birth Certificate", is just as valid as the original, longer document. To argue anything else, is just nonsense.

Your description of the two distinct documents does not do a thing to prove whether the above statement is true. If you are going to state unequivocally that it is "nonsense", you should provide an argument that demonstrates that fact. Otherwise, you are merely talking out of your rear end.

Absolutely not true. The document only says that a birth has been recorded in the state of HI. It does not say where the birth took place. The shining example of this is Barack Obama's sister, who has a COLB from Hawaii, yet was born in Indonesia.

Of course we can safely assume the Founding Fathers meant "born on US soil", but they didn't spell that out explicitly, which is now open to interpretation and Obama will take advantage of it.
