The smartest president in U.S. history seems to have confused Memorial Day with Veterans Day:
President Barack Obama saluted veterans and urged his countrymen to do the same this Memorial Day weekend, saying the nation has not always paid them proper respect.
In his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday, Obama said people can honor veterans by sending a letter or care package to troops overseas, volunteering at health clinics or taking supplies to a homeless veterans center. He said it could also mean something as simple as saying "thank you" to a veteran walking by on the street.
****
"That is what Memorial Day is all about," Obama said. "It is about doing all we can to repay the debt we owe to those men and women who have answered our nation's call by fighting under its flag. It is about recognizing that we, as a people, did not get here by accident or good fortune alone."
Someone might want to explain to the President that it is a little difficult to say "thank you" or send care packages to the deceased.
I agree with you. If we’re to be effective we must stick to those disagreements that have substance. We are not like them.
This has no merit.
Josie Wales said it to Fletcher at the end of the movie: “I guess we all died a little in that damn war.”
Groooaaaaaannnnnn!!
What a complete idiot! And he’s touted as “the most intelligent man in America”????? What a total joke!
It’s great that people honor vets but it is very important that we don’t lose the history of Memorial Day. The left conducts a 24/7 constant assault on our shared American heritage and history. The pinkos would have us believe none of our values are worth fighting for since the revolution goes smoother when no one shoots back. A day specifically honoring those who died because they believed that freedom was worth fighting for is important. I doubt schools even teach the history of Memorial Day anymore.
Same here. Beck on his show said to thank a serviceman...
IIRC, during the campaign, Obama said something in New Mexico about honoring all those who gave their lives..."...and I see many of them here today."
What is worse - a VP who can’t spell Potato, or a POTUS who can’t tell the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
If one were to evaluate this thru the Fascist American Press one would have to conclude that VP Quayle is stupid beyond all compare while Obama is the smartest man on the planet.
This is the result of the PR effort of the fascist Press to shape the opinions of America so they will also come to the same (Fascist IMO) conclusions.
Truth is that Obama make Quayle look like Reagan.
Isn't that what the Main Stream Media” tell us about every “Damdem” whether male or female?
‘man i bet they really let him have it on the Daily Show and late night tv for this!”
The only thing funnier than the Potus’ words are yours here. You gotta wonder... doesn’t anybody read over what his handlers write for him? Or do they assume Americans are as stupid as Obama’s staff?
My post was for the writer of the article, who was the source of the “can’t thank the dead” drivel, not to BehindLiberalLines.
That’s your prerogative.
I won’t politicize this day. Be well.
Thank you.
This is the basic problem--he is ignorant of, and uninterested in, American culture and history. To him, being "an American" is a mere technicality, like being a citizen of a third world hellhole with which he is more familiar. It means nothing to him. That's why he began his inaugural address with "My fellow citizens..." instead of "My fellow Americans..."
Perhaps he has trouble saying thanks. After all, it takes a true leader to express genuine gratitude to those who gave their lives for their country.
You mean his teleprompter confuses the holidays. he doesn’t know what day it is unless someone tells him.
...My father served in the US Navy. He served “lite” duty 25 years. Would you say “He is weak”, for that reasoning???
“Memorial” means “veteran” in Austrian...
Thank you
I can’t really fault the guy. I’m always getting various Kenyan holidays mixed up.
Memorial Day ping. Both beautiful and heart breaking pictures.
Post 14.
For almost a year I used to walk through the Veteran’s Cemetery on Sepulveda in W. Los Angeles to get from Wadsworth Hospital over to UCLA to catch the shuttle to Canoga Park; rain or shine those silent stones stood sentinel along my path as I strode past.
From time to time I would stop and just look up the rise to where the sun would soon set and realize that before long we would run out of room for any new.
But there was a bus to catch and many more, twenty years have gone and I’ve moved on and now I know there’ll be room enough, if nothing else they’ll just raise the floor.
