The smartest president in U.S. history seems to have confused Memorial Day with Veterans Day:
President Barack Obama saluted veterans and urged his countrymen to do the same this Memorial Day weekend, saying the nation has not always paid them proper respect.
In his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday, Obama said people can honor veterans by sending a letter or care package to troops overseas, volunteering at health clinics or taking supplies to a homeless veterans center. He said it could also mean something as simple as saying "thank you" to a veteran walking by on the street.
****
"That is what Memorial Day is all about," Obama said. "It is about doing all we can to repay the debt we owe to those men and women who have answered our nation's call by fighting under its flag. It is about recognizing that we, as a people, did not get here by accident or good fortune alone."
Someone might want to explain to the President that it is a little difficult to say "thank you" or send care packages to the deceased.
Maybe so.
But Barack and his ACORN buddies sure know a lot of deceased VOTERS.
Maybe he is thinking of them.
Memorial Day has been co-opted as a day to honor all military servicemembers. Every one of my FB friends are posting thank-yous to military people. I can’t get worked up over this, frankly.
What does it take to qualify as an Obama speech writer?
Whatever it is they might want to raise the bar.
He has no standing on this subject. He didn’t serve and he makes our militay real nervous. A weak Commander in Chief. I am not saying that those that didn’t serve don’t understand but this guy has no understanding what it actually means to serve.
Again! He did the same thing last year during the campaign. It's on purpose, but for what purpose I don't know.
He already mixed this up last year. TOTUS didn’t get the memo...
I said thank you and each and every headstone in the cemetery yesterday.
O and his administration insiders have no feelings for or knowledge of what it means to be an American. They believe that America is an oppressor nation. The only history stressed to them in their entirely inadequate education is about the times our government treated groups poorly. Having this anti-American heritage person as president is so sad.
STFU. I'm putting flowers today on the grave of my grandfather who fought in WWI.
That was the whole article? I thought he was going to get to his point about the HIDEOUS CRIME of mixing up Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day, which are SO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
What a pissy piece of crap the writer is.
Not the same thing. You’re not mailing your dead grandfather a care package or stopping him on the street, both of which are how the POSOTUS suggested we commemorate the holiday.
God bless & keep all who serve in defense of this Republic & her Constitution...and particularly may He rest all those who have given the last full measure of devotion in that service.
That includes my Uncle Albert Spacil, my mom's only brother & my dear, deceased grandparent's only son. He died in a B-17 over Germany in 1944. God continue to rest his soul until we're all gathered over yonder, across Jordan in our Father's Kingdom.
...and may God grant that we have the strength, courage, conviction, virtue, and faith to stand in our turn against the internal tyranny and marxism that has taken root amongst us and halt its growth in 2010, and then route the vipers out on a rail in 2012!
America has paid the price of freedom in its own blood, both here on our own shores, and abroad throughout the world. From Concord, to Bunker Hill, to Trenton, to Lake Champlain, to Valley Forge, to Cowpens, to Yorktown...to Tripoli...to Ft. Mieg, to Lake Erie, to Horseshoe Bend, to Chippewa and to New Orleans... to The Alamo, San Jacinto, Buena Vista, Palo Alto, Monterrey and the Halls of Montezuma...to Bull Run (twice), Antietam, Fredericksburg, Shiloh, Vicksburg, The Wilderness, Gettysburg, Atlanta and Appomattox...to Manila Bay, Guantanamo Bay, to Santiago and San Juan Hill...to Chateau Thierry and the Argonne Forest...to Pearl Harbor, North Africa, Sicily, Italy, to Normandy, Luxembourg, to islands and atolls throughout the Pacific, Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, to the Philippines...throughout Korea...to Granada and Panama to Kuwait to Fallujah, the Debecka Pass, Nasiriyah, Haditha, Baghdad, Al Anbar, Mosel, Ramadi and throughout the Sunni Triangle...to Mazari Sharif, to Kabul, to Takur Ghar, to Kandahar, to Tora Bora, to Operation Anaconda and throughout Afghanistan to name but a small few. Americans have shed their blood by the millions for freedom, and that freedom stretches from the United States throughout the world.
Let us never forget it...for should we forget it, or allow our elected representatives to do so (which the current batch of quislings is doing with a will), that is the day that we will place all of our lives and liberty in abject jeopardy.
was he winging this or did some 20-something write a screwed up speech confusing Memorial Day and Veteran’s day?
maybe he was just typically trying to pander and charm the serving troops and remind them how Bush and Cheney sent them to war for nothing and then neglected them, as opposed to He, the One -
even subtly, it always has to be about HIM
plus dead heros don’t vote :-(
Whatever it is they might want to raise the bar.
That's impossible! All the tax crooks are already on the cabinet...
This is really making a mountain out of a mole hill. There are far more important issues with which to disagree with this president on than this subject.
Today we honor all service people living and deceased. They are all making and have made great sacrifices to defend this nation and keep us safe.
Today is too sacred of a day to play politics with it. I give Zero a pass...the Vietnam memorial traveling exhibit is in Fair Park (Dallas) right now and it was a moving emotional experience for me. If you get a chance stop by, I saw names of guys that I think of a lot. I pray the world never forgets...
