THE POPE STANDS UP (and walks out on Palestinian leader Sheikh Taysir al-Tamimi)
NY Post ^ | May 12, 2009

In an action that spoke far louder than words, Pope Benedict yesterday walked out of an interfaith meeting in Jerusalem after the chief Islamic judge of the Palestinian Authority launched into an anti-Israeli diatribe.

The pontiff, on his first day in Jerusalem, did not realize at first that Sheikh Taysir al-Tamimi, speaking in Arabic, was condemning the "crimes of the Jewish state" and accusing Israel of having "slaughtered women, children and senior citizens."

But as soon as he was told the nature of the sheikh's tirade, he stood and left the meeting, which took place at Notre Dame church, before it had concluded.

It's not as if the organizers shouldn't have seen this coming: Back in 2000, Tamimi did the same thing during a visit by the late Pope John Paul II.

A spokesman for the Holy See later condemned the remarks, saying that

The teaching of Jesus includes the authority of the Church that He created to teach, instruct and admonish. If you reject that, you reject His teachings. Therefore, I would say that your heart ought to be troubled. The rejection of Jesus and His gifts does not bode well for those who would seek eternal salvation.

I've already stated that I'll take my chances. The odds are 100% saved!!!

The teachings of your fathers... just as Jesus talked about those other guys dedicated to keeping the Law.

John 8: 13The Pharisees challenged him, "Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid."

...

..and I agree with Paul, for sure. This is pretty accurate about your church, particularly applied to your clergy. It is a more perfect depiction, when taken in light of the untold fortunes paid to victims of sexual abuse by your clergy... But, after all, Rome's got more money than God!

This is not an indictment of faith in Jesus,by anyone. It reveals that there is nothing, and nobody, on Earth good enough for Him.

Romans 1: 16I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

They don’t seem to understand that we are bound by Jesus Christ and that the Holy Spirit is the one who convicts us of sin. The commandments show us what sin is but we are not ‘bound’ by them. Cheez.

Pete googled Elim scandal and came up with a group in New Zealand or Australia called Elim Temple Bible Institute. It has nothing to do with Elim Fellowship or Elim Bible Institute in Lima. You’d think he know enough, LOL.

Pete really doesn’t get it about ten commandments. He thinks we’re free to kill, rape, etc. Noooo, not with the Holy Spirit indwelling us. HE is better than the 10 Commandments, which just SHOWS us what sin is. I can’t believe how dense ....

The money they spend on their cathedrals and churches could feed every person in Italy and the US. Shameful. And they call us a cultist.

AMEN, Pillut. I wonder how many Catholics tithe as the Bible tells us to do. They’re great ones to talk about giving. How many of them go on short-term or long-term mission trips? I hope a lot go. Haven’t seen a lot in my area, though. They have to keep up their church’s facade.

They object to scripture because they don’t know how to interpret it for themselves. They depend on their Church to do it for them. Very sad.

This is just too much.

Why conjuecture about what/how/and how much Catholics tithe? You have absolutely no way of knowing and besides, if Catholics are Scripturallly alert and sound they will obey the scriptural admoniition NOT to speak of what/when and how much they tithe.

You can be sure it has always been adequate, because it was the money of individual parishioners that paid for the churches they worship in to be built and the schools that their children attended.

As for missionaries——the history of Catholic missionaries to all corners of the world, to all classes of people is available for all to know. They often gave their lives for their missionary efforts.

To say that you haven’t seen any, or that they “keep up the church’s facade” is simply conjecture.

As for any “missionary” work or outreach, the amount of effort in this regard is usually unheralded and unknown. For example, I live where my parish could basically be considered an “inner city” parish. In our parish alone we have a seniors outreach program, a youth outreach program, a parish food pantry outreach program where we stock food donated from parishioners to give to anyone in our parish boundaries who is hungry and needs food that they can’t pay for. We have a community outreach program. We also have Bible study groups, youth ministries, music ministries, and parishioners who dedicate time and effort to help families through the days of bereavement, burial and memorial services.

There is even more but this will do for starters.

We accept the fact that every one of us is called to a missionary spirit, if nothing more than just by the way we conduct our lives.

To this very day there are missinary priests in countries all over the world-—priests who literally give their lives for this work.

There is so much labeling and false assumptions and hasty judgments and conjecture and guess work and shaky facts presented on this thread. I wonder what ever happened to the commandment admonishing us not to bear false witness.

If something can’t be proved or factually substantiated, it shouldn’t be offered as “truth”.

You wonder “how many Catholics tithe as the Bible tells them to”?

Maybe many, many more than you have any idea.

Let me be perfectly clear, I do not care if you are not in full communion with the Catholic Church. Could not care less.

Thank God (for your sake) that you're not talking about me, because if you were, that claim I quoted above would be another of your lies

Well, pete, that is no surprise.

The reason I post is because I am in full communion with the Jesus' universal (catholic) church. I do care if you have Christ as your personal Savior, and not just a good pew warmer...

Luke 6: 27"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31Do to others as you would have them do to you.

32"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them. 33And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that. 34And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full. 35But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

37"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." - love, Jesus
