They said they were “reviewing” the situation to see if laws were broken, so there was major fear that guys on the line, doing things they had been told were legally cleared, would now find themselves in the docket.

It never got to the “specific statutes for prosecution” phase.

-allowing Americans to visit Cuba. Wait until the Cubans see their rich American cousins with their electronics, money, showen pictures of their nice homes and cars. The last 50 year policy with Cuba has been a failure.. maybe we can get closed North Korea to open up to. What would happen if Sorth Koreans were allowed to vist North Korea?

Worked for Germany, at least...

Don’t want to upset the CIA. Didn’t JFK upset the CIA over a Cuban pig incident?

“that they won’t be prosecuted by the Justice Department.”

That caveat is what worries me. It says they won’t be prosecuted by the Justice dept, but once they give the names to the private prosecutors, watch out!

What a sleaze!

Wow. How grand of him, how terribly grand.

He isn't going to flagrantly violate that one aspect of the US Constitution that prohibits against ex post facto prosecutions.

How terribly grand he is.

Under what law were they thinking of prosecuting them? Must be Sharia Law. Waterboarding does not constitute torture. No prosecution could be initiated because of that fact, in any venue, includingthe UN.

It is an acceptable human interrogation technique which invokes panic and makes prisoners spill the beans. It is very effective, which is why Obama wants the practise ended.

Obama wants to be the only one able to use such interrogation techniques. ANd he will likely do much worse before the end of his sordid political career.

“Obama kept all the surveillance provisions of the Patriot Act, too, and fully intends to use them... on his political enemies.”

Good point. All those who thought it was a good thing to let the government lock people away with no rights to be charged with any crime, to confront witnesses, have a lawyer, or even know the details of their offense, well, it doesn’t sound so good now that that we have a pro-Muslim socialist president, does it?

Maybe now they can see why we had constitutional checks on the government’s power?

“In releasing these memos, it is our intention to assure those who carried out their duties relying in good faith upon legal advice from the Department of Justice that they will not be subject to prosecution.

The men and women of our intelligence community serve courageously on the front lines of a dangerous world. Their accomplishments are unsung and their names unknown, but because of their sacrifices, every single American is safer.

We must protect their identities as vigilantly as they protect our security, and we must provide them with the confidence that they can do their jobs.

Going forward, it is my strong belief that the United States has a solemn duty to vigorously maintain the classified nature of certain activities and information related to national security.

This is an extraordinarily important responsibility of the presidency, and it is one that I will carry out assertively irrespective of any political concern.

Consequently, the exceptional circumstances surrounding these memos should not be viewed as an erosion of the strong legal basis for maintaining the classified nature of secret activities. I will always do whatever is necessary to protect the national security of the United States.”

He keeps walking back and forth, giving some to one side, some treacherously to the other.

One of these days, he’s going to be caught in the middle of the street, with nowhere to go ...... and then the real marxist will be fully revealed in its raw, anti-American hostility.
