A Month in the Life of George W Bush (news and photos): April 2009

As we enter April 2009 we are being bombarded by the media hyping up the first 100 days of President Obama I thought it would be nice to look back at the first 100 days of George W Bush Presidency.

The White House Website for the Bush Administration had a photo essay for the first 100 days which I am sure will provoke fond memories.

At the weekend I will post photos covering the first 2 weeks of April 2001 which once again I am sure will make us all feel nostalgic for the President we supported, respected and trusted to keep us safe for the last 8 years. Later this month I will post photos from the second half of Aril 2001 plus a selection of other photos that I am sure will be breath of fresh air and produce fond memories.

First of all before the photos I will post the text of remarks that George W Bush made at a Congressional Luncheon marking the first 100 days of the Bush Adminstration - ah those were the days.

I will also post some photos I have found of the Bush family for March 2009 including some of the former First Lady.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

I’ve heard of toad in the hole and after reading that recipe, I am sure it must be very yummy!

How is your Dad doing? He looked very chipper in that picture
from your Easter meal. Hope he is gaining his strength.

Thanks for the Toad in the Hole recipe! I'd heard of it, before, but wasn't exactly sure what it was. I think I heard of it first in the old Disney movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks, one of my all time favorites.

BREAKING NEWS: BARBARA BUSH (the ‘other’ twin)WILL MARRY THIS SUMMER!!

Barbara Bush To Marry In Maine This Summer?
Email thisPosted Apr 14th 2009 at 1:25PM by Ben Widdicombe

Summer wedding in Maine, anyone?

The talk from Austin to Augusta is that former first daughter Barbara Bush and her beau Jay Blount, an investment consultant, are planning a ceremony at George Bush Sr.’s summer home.

“Barbara and Jay are getting married this summer in Kennebunkport,” a source tells me. “It’s very quiet, but their friends know.”

Barbara (a.k.a. the brunette; twin Jenna’s the blonde) and Jay met while they were both undergraduates at Yale. The couple is routinely described by the gossip media as “on-again, off-again,” although he reappeared on her arm in the spring of last year.

The Bush family has kept a summer retreat at Walker’s Point (Walker being the W in “Dubya”), Kennebunkport, for more than a century. Should your invitation to the nuptials not arrive, you can get a sense of the compound here.

A spokesman for former president George W. Bush did not immediately respond to an e-mail request for comment.

Students gathered outside Crum Auditorium Tuesday to take photos and greet the former President George W. Bush and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. This marks the second time since leaving office that Bush has visited campus and people have gathered to meet him. Bush is meeting this week with several of his former advisers to discuss plans for his presidential library and policy institute.

Thank you, DrDeb, for this exciting news. I visited Kennebunkport many moons ago ...and from what I could see at a distance, a big distance....lol... the Bush home is beautiful. It will make a wonderful setting for Barbara’s wedding.

I can’t wait till the President’s Library is finished....I know where I’ll be vacationing at that time..

President Bush is on the road again!

(PRESIDENT) BUSH MAKES FIRST OVERSEAS TRIP AFTER PRESIDENCY
BOAO, China – Former President George W. Bush cracked jokes about how he scoops up after his dog on neighborhood walks and then turned to more serious subjects like terrorism and the financial crisis Saturday during his first overseas trip since leaving office.

Bush — in China for the Boao Forum — also shared some of his most unusual moments with leaders, including the time he listened to former Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi sing “Hound Dog” while visiting Graceland mansion, home to the late Elvis Presley in Memphis, Tennessee.

The stories drew laughter and applause from the audience in a huge banquet hall at the forum, an annual conference where executives hobnob with global leaders at a resort on China’s southern tropical island province of Hainan. Security was tight and there were no protests.

You will find photos of the event here (I’m hoping one of you will post some of these photos — my favorite in the photo of the President flashing his beautiful smile from the back of an SUV):

Another fun article from the GENIUS himself:

ROVE SAYS BUSH IS DOING JUST FINE
Friday, April 17, 2009 3:08 AM
By Joe Hallett

. . . “He’s not been defined by having a funny-shaped office in the southeast corner of the White House, so there’s a sense of normality about him,” Rove said.

“There’s a sense of confidence. He’s going to be content with history’s judgment. There’s a sense of gratitude that he had the opportunity to serve, and there’s a sense of contentment that he’s back in Texas.”

Rove, who said he talks with Bush at least every other day, flew on Air Force One with Bush from Washington to Texas on Jan. 20, the day Obama was inaugurated. He said Bush felt “like the weight of the world was off his shoulders.”

So good to see your Dad enjoying his dinner.

My Father passed away on this Easter Sunday. He’d been ill for a very long time. It was a blessing.

Dear Karl,

I wish I could talk to President Bush, just ONE day. Since you and I are both born on Christmas--I think you should share!

I miss him so much. I fear for our wonderful Country.

I miss your level of love for this dear land, President Bush.

Hoping each of your days is better than the last, President Bush; and many many great fly fishing days for VP Cheney, too!
