Make sure to check out our ongoing thread for updates about the Regional Convention being held in Orlando on April 25. The convention will be at the spectacular Gaylord Palms hotel and we've gotten a group rate of just $99/night on guest rooms. Updated information will be posted Monday on how to make your reservations.
RG, Convention Chair
Is there a website or main post that describes the timing and what is happening there, etc.?
Hi Woebama! I know Roos_girl is extra busy so will jump in to answer your question. More infor and details will be coming and Monday the room registration info.
We had another thread (link below) but this thread was started to be more up to date. As the other thread went on, we Freepers threw in some other subjects like we always do. Even I was the one who started some “chicken talk”!:)
Keep this thread bookmarked and spread the link to your friends as the up to date info will be posted here. Hope to meet you in Orlando! :)
Driving instructions will follow ASAP. The agenda and speaker for the event is still a work in progress and this data will be posted when it's ready.
There'll also be some dandy photos of the venue, the Gaylord Palms hotel. Wow, what a place to have a convention....and the group price per room Roos negotiated is a fantastic bargain.
Bookmark this thread so you can get to it easily and keep up on what's going on. Most questions can be answered by scrolling back.
Freepers who have committed to registering are listed on the Roos_Girl profile page.
Also listed are the screen names of the generous donors who are helping with the peripheral expenses associated with putting on an effective freeper convention. These folks are sensitive to the needs of this event and we are so grateful.
This thread is also listed at the bottom of the "latest posts" pages under "Activism/Chapters". It's titled "FR Southeastern Regional Convention, Orlando, 4/25/09". This is a link that will take you right to this thread as it moves along.
I hope to meet you up close and personal at this convention, Woebama. You'll have a rewarding experience, I guarantee you.
Plus, I want to tell you how much I love your screen name....good one!

There seems to be a lot of interest in finding a conservative candidate to support in opposition to Charlie Crist’s run for the Florida Senate seat in 2010. Would y’all be interested in inviting some of the candidates that have expressed an interest in running against him in the primary? If so, who would you invite? I think we could fit in a couple of them with each getting 15 - 20 minutes to tell us about themselves and answer questions.
This could be interesting at least we wouldn’t hand pick the questions ahead of time...but I am not sure 15 minutes would be enough for them to be inspired to attend.
Also NO TELEPROMPTERS
Hmmm...meant 15 - 20 minutes for them to talk and then probably another 15 - 20 minutes for questions.
yeah that could work. they should bring their prepared earmarks for us to review so we can see how we will personally benefit..LOL...just kidding.
Thanks for the clarification.
Have no idea if he is interested in running for governor, but I would enjoy hearing Congressman Cliff Stearns speak
If this is decided, I would want ONLY candidates we invite to be checked out first for their “conservativeness”. If they have a record to check, that is. I personally do not want to listen to any RINO. I have supported enough of them and sorry I did. Will no more!
I do not know who has stated they are running for Governor. Who is? Guess I have been out of the loop on that. Do know that Marion Thorpe is running for the Martinez Senate seat. Now he would be a good one to invite. That is if everyone is for opening part of the meeting to somewhat of a candidate forum.
What about this previous Fla Sen prez Rubio? Even Dems that I know [if that isn't heresy] said they were impressed with the guy. I think scuttlebutt destines him for Governor, but we can invite him and see what he has to say... someone from Miami know how to contact the fellow?
My original post was only regarding Martinez’s senate seat that he’ll be leaving in 2010, not governor.
Agreed, anyone that is suggested should have:
1. a record that can be reviewed.
2. a conservative record.
My thinking about it more brought me back to the goal of getting organized throughout the state and southeast region. Once that is accomplished we should be able to have a candidate forum with VERY MANY folks there to hear the candidates speak and take questions. An event like that takes advanced planning too but I envision FR being the sponsor and opening the forum to other conservative groups.
Just my thoughts! :)
Sure looking forward to the 25th, and thank you again for all you are doing! Jean
My mistake! Wasn’t reading carefully! Thanks!:)
I think its too early to invite candidates for US Senate. A year from now will be different.
I’m in!!
Great idea y’all!!
