Gen. Petraeus: U.S. no less safe under Obama

Gen. Petraeus: U.S. no less safe under Obama By Michael O'Brien Posted: 03/29/09 10:12 AM [ET] General David Petraeus countered recent suggestions by former Vice President Dick Cheney on Sunday that the United States is less safe under the Obama administration.

“I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that,” Petraeus said during an appearance on CNN where he was asked about Cheney's comments.

In an interview on CNN two weeks ago, Cheney defended Bush administration interrogation policies and the detention camp in Guantanamo Bay as making the U.S. safer. He criticized Obama for announcing changes to U.S. interrogation policies, which he said had foiled terrorist attacks on the U.S.

Pressed about Cheney's comments, Petraeus did not directly criticize U.S. interrogation policies that some have said amounted to torture. But in offering a defense for traditional U.S. "values," he also did not defend Cheney's remarks.

“I think that there is in fact a good debate going on about the importance of values in everything we do,” Petraeus said. “It is hugely significant to us to hold so dear to the values we’ve fought for over the years,” he said.

I'm guessing they were smart enough to know that when it comes to Defense anything, the Zero team is in way over their paygrades.

There, fixed it for ya.

See that is where I retract what I 1st believed.... I believe he is there as a sacrificial lamb.... so once the sh*t hits the fan in Afghan... the Obambi clan can blame it on Bush/Cheney via Gates/Petraeus.... and then they can try and go after the successes in Iraq.... these people up there in DC are vile and evil and wish for nothing more than the destruction of the USA as we know it.... and the MSM will willfully trot along right in front of it. They have hated this war from the get-go b/c the thesis of it has been to spread democracy..... something they have always repudiated from their vile, evil, corrupted cores.

not only does this General have to pay attention to what happens on the war front, he has to pay attention what each and every media hitpiece and understand what his answer will mean back home

Then he should keep his mouth shut on every loaded political questions no matter how good he is at speaking neutral.

Today, every quote is spun, over-analyzed, distorted or exagerrated by the whoremedia.

I don't remember in past wars where Generals and Admirals were questioned by the media everytime they turned around. Eisenhower? Leahy?

Pershing (for gawd's sake)?

Why don't these military leaders have a "no comment" or no "interviews" policy and quit being "caught" (hah!) in front of cameras and microphones.

No one is forcing Petraeus to open his yap.

The US may be no less safe under Obama but he certainly isn’t making the US any safer - I believe one of his ‘sell-by’ promises.

Gen Petreus deserves respect, thanks and admiration from all of us. But beware if he gets into politics. His wife has already been used by Governor (hopefully soon known as former) Sebeleus to promote lib causes in Kansas.

Gates is only temporary. Westley Clark is going to take over as SECDEF in May of 2010 when he becomes eligible.

Interesting Patraeus Touch.

I hope he runs for the presidency against Obama.

He sure is acting the part, for the military is deeply disaffected with Zero. The good general obscures it well in a very fine CYA.

Which is why Zero has moved to create Civilian Expeditionary para military support Workers. The DoD has already published the executive order.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/13313192/DOD-Directive-140410-DoD-Civilian-Expeditionary-Workforce

I wonder what the good General’s take is on this order. I wish someone would ask him.

He has to be carefull for obvious reasons. On the other hand we have no clue of his political leanings.

If he were even slightly conservative, he could be a front-runner for 2012. I would love to see a real man kick Obama in the behind.

I think we just got one. :( And we don't need another tongue-swallowing politician who "leans" to the mushy middle. I hope he decides to keep being a good general instead of a mediocre politico.

I believe if something goes wrong, Obama will try to say, “Well I kept Bush's team intact and we were attacked....Bush's fault.”

Unfortunately for Obama, he put Clinton's former COS in charge of the CIA. That will be Obama’s downfall.

Does anyone know who is heading the NSA?

A lot of people were willing to draft Colin Powell to the white house a few years ago. I don’t know anything about where Patreaus stands politically but I always point to David Hackworth as an example about why we need to be careful.

David Hackworth had one of the most spectacular military careers in modern times but he was also quite liberal.

POTUS = Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces of the United State of America. End of discussion.

As unworthy of that title as he may be, we just have to suck it up. UH!

I wonder if this isn't all a set up to try and insulate Obambi and his ilk from anything that might go wrong in Afghan by yet again trying to blame it on Bush/Cheney. Any thoughts?

I think you have it right.

” I hope he runs for the presidency against Obama.”

John Gibson has been pushing Petraeus’s name as the Republican’s best shot in 2012.
Don’t know whether this is wishful thinking on Gib’s part or if he has an inside track to the General’s intentions.
Gravitas ,experience and maturity should be a major focus by the Republican candidate in 2012 .
And Petraeus has that in spades compared to Zero.

Sounds like he tactfully avoided discussing politics in a public forum, which is what a soldier is supposed to do.
