WASHINGTON The Mexican government is not on the verge of collapse, the top U.S. intelligence official said Thursday, seeking to tamp down increasing alarm over the powerful and violent drug cartels operating in the country that is the United States' southern neighbor.
"Mexico is in no danger of becoming a failed state," said National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair at his first news conference Thursday.
Echoing the assessment of Mexico's leaders, Blair said the dramatic increase in killings in Mexico is a result of that government's crackdown on drug cartels.

No way...Jose!
I do not want Mexico’s northern (and mainly poorest) states to become part of the US...that would be an economic catastrophie bigger than any Obama could create
We would have to give welfare to most of them...because most are uneducated or undereducated....and I definitely do not want a former Mexican taking a job away from a hard-working American...or have hard-working Americans subsidize Third Worlders
Mexico’s economy is weak....its per capita GDP is low, and gets lower every day. Millions have lost their jobs...many shipped off to Communist China (in return, Communist China supplies the pseudophedrine so the Mex’s can cook up crystal meth)
If you really want to fix this Mexico crisis...you must:
1. Abrogate NAFTA, esp all parts pertaining to Mexico (Free Trade has failed in Mexico....millions have lost jobs and/or ability to sustain selves). NAFTA also enables the drug cartels easier access over the border...allowing them to use “trade rules” to compromise the system (esp with Mexican trucking companies)
2. Deport all illegals....and prevent any new illegals from arriving. You do not destroy America while Mexico collapses
3. Execute all violent illegal alien Mexicans confined in US prisons. Most are involved in drugs and gangs...and would put fear into the cartels....note that Mexico has no death penalty...and the cartels have no fear of being executed for violent crimes in Mexico. Start executing the cartels and gangs...and you begin to turn the tide.
4. Strong US military presence on the Mexican border...and armed with nukes. If the Mexican govt and/or drug cartels try to invade the US border (trust meither)...I want to be able to vaporize Mexican cities in response. No more coddling that Third World craphole...whether it is its government or the American hate/racist groups like La Raza (The Race).
Strong measures....I know. Weak measures will not work. The US will be defending itself from not only the drug cartels....but also the Mexican government.
“There are no drug cartels in Mexico, none!” - Bagdad Bob
My thoughts exactly when I read this headline.
I take it this is a rhetorical question. BTW is this thread about Mexico or Northern Mexico (ie America)?
The headline “Mexico Not in Danger of Collapse” sounds A LOT like the headline (also from today) “Utica pollster says Obama’s popularity drop not dramatic”: both mean exactly the opposite of what they say.
That be some mighty nice real estate once we clear out the rabble...
Um. Not under THIS regime. In such an event, anyone with a brain should be aiming in self defense.
Barney Frank said the same thing a couple of years ago about Fannie Mae.
LOL, no, they're not STUPID. The drug cartels are what keep the politicians in jobs. They can't AFFORD to really do anything to stop them. What would they do for money then? (This has been accepted- though unofficially - practice in Mexican politics since before Zepata's time.)
Come on Norm,
you could run a pyramid betting scheme.
Oh never mind.
So what?
Well, I really don’t care if it does, or doesn’t...
What I do care about is the massive influx of refuges that WILL inundate our border with no one in place to stop them from coming into this country...
Yes, we in the border state WILL be effected more than anyone else...
At which point will the border states be “allowed” to repel borders, and to what degree of force will we be “allowed” to use to thwart this problem???
LOL good point. The question is not whether Mexico will fail, the question is whether anyone in Mexico would notice.
IMHO when Fox got voted in a president he started an cascade of changes.
Now it has reached the point were the corrupt Mexican federales/cops/mayors/army generals affiliated with the PRI are being replaced by the new crop of corrupt officials (and their associated drug gang).
They are not all going quietly.
It will all be reshuffled and ‘quite’ reasonably shortly. Costing too much money.
Saying that Mexico could become a narco-state implies that it has been something other in recent history.
I’m going to apply Constanza’s Rule to this statement, which means that Mexico is about to collapse.
So far in the last couple of years, any large company, government program, or government that has had to come out and say that they weren’t collapsing, collapsed by the next week.
...y’know, because Mexico can’t collapse twice. ;’)
"Mexico is in no danger of becoming a failed state," said National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair at his first news conference Thursday...."y'know, because Mexico became a failed state some time ago. Uh-oh, is this microphone on?"

=============== It seems to me that the Obama administration is learning how to "float trial balloons". About a month ago, they were inept and rudderless. Now they are inept and starting to have some direction. The chaos is introduced. Government is the salvation. Posting an Op-Ed in major cities all over the world seems over-reaching and prideful.
