Ordinary Days
Behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them. —Luke 2:9

Writer Anita Brechbill observed in God’s Revivalist magazine that “Most often the Word of the Lord comes to a soul in the ordinary duties of life.” She cites the examples of Zacharias performing his duties as a priest, and the shepherds watching their flocks. They were at work as usual with no idea that they were about to receive a message from God.

Luke describes the ordinary days when these men received their message from God: “While [Zacharias] was serving as priest before God in the order of his division, . . . an angel of the Lord appeared to him” (1:8,11). While the shepherds were “living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night . . . an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them” (2:8-9).

Oswald Chambers in My Utmost for His Highest said: “Jesus rarely comes where we expect Him; He appears where we least expect Him, and always in the most illogical situations. The only way a worker can keep true to God is by being ready for the Lord’s surprise visits.”

On this ordinary day, the Lord may have a word of encouragement, guidance, or instruction for us, if we’re listening and ready to obey.

I wonder what I did for God today:
How many times did I once pause and pray?
But I must find and serve Him in these ways,
For life is made of ordinary days. —Macbeth

God speaks to those who are quiet before Him.

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION

The light of God surround you
The love of God enfold you
The power of God protect you
The presence of God watch over you
Wherever you are, God is,
And all is well.
Amen.

BLESS THIS HOUSE
 Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Did the summer package there (Bridgeport) in 1988. Outstanding training for a month. Often humped or ran from the base camp up to 9494 ft, and back for training. Also did a timed 25 mile MCCRES (a combat ready evaluation) hump where they flew us (my unit trained with a weapons battalion) up and out into the mountains in CH-53’s and 46’s, and then we humped back down through the base camp and up towards 9494. Would have liked to do the winter package there also, but did that in Wisconsin instead. Hard work but good times.

I spent 15 months at MCMWTC back in 1979.

It was a lot more rustic back in those day for billets than they have today, but it was so great being in the mountains in the winter and summer and Lake Tahoe was close by.

Good morning, Everyone. Good morning to our AWESOME military, our allies, and their families

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities and for your continued support.

Now for our local DC Metroland weather report

~ Today.... Sunny. High 52F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph.

~Tonight....A few passing clouds. Low 31F. Winds light and variable.

Another busy day but not as busy as yesterday. Went out to lunch with a large group and managed to get back to the office just in time to clean up the desk and close down the office.

Now I've gotta finish up a few things I didn't get done yesterday and then I've got to go back and check out any pings that I didn't get a chance to respond to.

Time for me to make my rounds. But, you stay right where you are. Don't touch that dial. And, remember – I’ll be watching!

Now remember, the Canteen is

So, come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM

DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM
(gotta love these guys!)
