Police say suspect behind two separate shootings involving officers
OAKLAND, Calif. - Four officers were in critical condition and a suspect dead on Saturday after gunfire at a traffic stop led to a massive manhunt that ended in a shootout, police said.
Two officers were shot in the first incident just after 1 p.m. after they stopped the suspect's vehicle in east Oakland, said Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason.
The suspect fled the scene on foot into a nearby neighborhood, police said, leading to an intense manhunt by dozens of Oakland police, California Highway Patrol officers and Alameda County sheriff deputies.
Streets were roped off and an entire area of east Oakland shut to traffic.

I will never understand why police go into areas like this Oakland neighborhood. They should do no more than patrol the perimeter and try to keep the animals penned in.

Police Officers are not trained in warfare, but in keeping the peace and enofrecing the law according to the constitutions of their state and country
A traffic stop results in the murder of two police officers, just like that. And the perp drops two more. This situation needed a responce andequipment like the US Marines used in Baghdad.
Now this whole situation is caused by drugs which come across an open border, and it all originates south of the border. Illegal aliens are only a part of the problem. Among other deliterious things, they provide cover for the drug traffic which is at the root of this overall situation. The border should be secured as Duncan Hunter had advized and admonished. How much worse will it have to get?
This situation, as tragic as it is, is a symptom of a much larger problem. How many more officers will have to die before the situation is brought under control on the border?
Whoever and whatever this perp was,I could care less about his ethnicity, he was a member of a criminal community whose major financial support comes from that drug traffic from Mexico.Its time for that open border to be controlled and closed.
And the A$$ hat politicians at the state level and at the federal level better do something about it, or the people themselves surely will.
Certainly there are hundreds of offcers in the Oakland area who feel the very same way tonight.

It happened within a half mile of the Coliseum(where the A’s and Raiders play). It is probably one of the worst sections of Oakland. The violence problem in Oakland is a black problem. SF and San Jose have a problem with Hispanic and Asian gangs. I had to fly out of the Oakland Airport one evening. I took the BART to the Coliseum Station and then go outside to catch a shuttle to the airport. Even though there was a BART cop in the station, there were at least 6 hookers right outside at 8 PM.

Take a shuttle or even a cab. The area at night is too dicey. I used to work at the Oakland airport for 2 yrs and know the general area

I took the AirBART bus. Usually I fly out of SFO, a lot safer. The BART goes right into the SFO terminal now. I live at the other end of the line (Dublin), so a $15 round trip BART ticket is a lot cheaper than driving to the airport
