4 cops shot, suspect dead after Calif. traffic stop
Police say suspect behind two separate shootings involving officers
OAKLAND, Calif. - Four officers were in critical condition and a suspect dead on Saturday after gunfire at a traffic stop led to a massive manhunt that ended in a shootout, police said.
Two officers were shot in the first incident just after 1 p.m. after they stopped the suspect's vehicle in east Oakland, said Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason.
The suspect fled the scene on foot into a nearby neighborhood, police said, leading to an intense manhunt by dozens of Oakland police, California Highway Patrol officers and Alameda County sheriff deputies.
Streets were roped off and an entire area of east Oakland shut to traffic.

Is he a former black panther like Bobby Rush of Illinois? HOW do these people get into congress, anyway??? I swear there should be more stringent requirements....

JMHO but that sounded like a threat,,,
And YOUR former FED~LEO!!!
Lessons learned then and tomorrow from this event.......hopefully will save lives !
Thank you Religion Moderator.
Wouldn't have mattered. One was shot in the head, the other in the jaw and neck.
AT LEAST Type IIIA vests on...and he dropped two of them as well.
There's video (KGO-TV, second image with the SWAT vehicle) of the SWAT team stacking up, kinda sorta, outside the apartment building door. Evaluate the weight of the armor for yourself. They are wearing Kevlar helmets, but the vests don't look all that heavy duty.
Video flagged.
You are the one who is not dropping it, so leave the thread.
My son in law is a street cop in Hayward. Right next to Oakland. This is just so tragic...
I have. Worked in the downtown area for approx 12 yrs 80-92. Day shift was usually ok but evenings and nights were whole different matter. There were at least 5 women in the office who carried and I am sure they didn't have any CCW. I did also on those shifts. Too dangerous going to your car.
The one where the citizen happened on the scene, shooting one of the suspects in the chest with the officers service weapon..
One brave citizen and a very bad event.
Thanks for that, so he came out of the San Francisco State/Berkley 60’s crowd. sigh........
I cannot imagine walking around there at night without some sort of protection.
What a tragic day. Prayers for the families.
With any rifle round, above a .22, and probably with most pistol rounds other than maybe .25 and .32 ACP. Motorcycle helmets are designed for motorcycle accidents, not stopping bullets. Even military Kevlar helmets won't stop 5.56x41, 5.45x39 or 7.62x39 (M-16, newer AK's, and older AK's respectively) if the bullet hits near normal to the surface. (Perpendicular to it).
Police are calling at least weapon involved in the killing of the two SWAT guys, an "assault weapon". But, I'm not up on the latest CA definition of what that might be.
There are SWAT and there are SWAT....
Black clothing, wicked looking black weapons and neat helmets alone do not a SWAT professional make......
Then pile on asinine ROE that are more concerned with not harming the perp — and the LEOs are put at risk.....
I agree - the AAR will be revealing and interesting.
