WASHINGTON The Supreme Court ruled Monday that a part of the Voting Rights Act aimed at helping minorities elect their preferred candidates only applies in electoral districts where minorities make up more than half the population.
The decision could make it harder for some minority candidates to win election and for southern Democrats, in particular, to draw friendly electoral boundaries after the 2010 Census.
The 5-4 decision, with the court's conservatives in the majority, came in the case of a North Carolina plan that sought to preserve the influence of African-American voters even though they made up just 39 percent of the population in a state legislative district.

adding another twist to the 2010 census stew and the agenda of dems in 2010 and 2012 and beyond..
“sought to preserve the influence of African-American voters”
racist bastards.

ACORN not happy!
ya gotta remember their mindset -
screw the “process” and the “rules” -
they are not only capable of, but they have a duty to enact “cosmic justice”.
----Obama March 11, 2009.
Actually the more majority-minority districts the better for Republicans — that concentrates the heavily Democratic voters into fewer districts and means more Republican majority districts.
If a state has 10 10-voter districts, with 50 voters from each party, 2 districts being set up as minority dominated 9-1 Democratic means the other eight add up to 48-32 Republican and it’s likely the GOP will have a majority in at least six of those other eight.
Obama must be deeply saddened today...
Time for whites to buy homes out in ethnic communities -— the result, best candidate wins!
Sure they can. Whites only count as 3/5 of a vote though.
Only in America.

I noticed that to. Only in a liberal’s mind can that make sense.
Fixed it.
Fixed the title, too, you AP recta.
“Act aimed at helping minorities elect their preferred candidates only applies in electoral districts where minorities make up more than half the population. “
When a minority makes up more than half the population, it no longer is a minority!!!
Something smells here.
Sheesh. This plan let them go and bring in more of the favored minority from across the county lines until they had a majority for the district. Incredible. They're not even subtle.
