2 British soldiers killed in N. Ireland gun ambush

Suspected IRA dissidents opened fire on British troops and pizza delivery men outside a Northern Ireland army base, killing two soldiers and wounding four other people. Police said Sunday the attackers fired on their victims again as they lay wounded on the ground.

Saturday night's attack at the entrance to Massereene army barracks in Antrim, west of Belfast, was the first killing of British troops in Northern Ireland since 1997. Its callousness, in targeting soldiers and civilians alike, appeared calculated to inflame community tensions and undermine Northern Ireland's Catholic-Protestant administration.

"The whole country is shocked and outraged at the evil and cowardly attack," British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said in London. "I assure you that we will bring these murderers to justice. No murderer will be able to derail a peace process that has the support of the people of Northern Ireland."

In Dublin, the Irish government said virtually nobody in either part of Ireland wanted to rekindle a conflict that left more than 3,700 dead. Leaders pledged greater security cooperation with British security forces in the north to catch and imprison the dissidents, who are strongest along the Irish border.

"Violence has been utterly rejected by the people of this island, both north and south," said Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen. "A tiny group of evil people cannot, and will not, undermine the will of the people of Ireland to live in peace together. "

Police Chief Superintendent Derek Williamson, who is leading the hunt for the killers, said two men armed with assault rifles both opened fire from a car on a group of four soldiers taking delivery of food from two Domino's Pizza drivers. He said it wasn't clear whether all six were hit at that point,

How does anybody else see the irony in this happening the same week the Queen knighted the IRA's closest friend in the US Senate. Meanwhile, our Secretary of State is married to the former President who most actively sided with the IRA, and her former Senate seat will be aggressively sought by the the most openly pro-IRA member of the Republican Party (Peter King). All of this, just in time for St. Patrick's Day.

The IRA disarmed and renounced violence in 2005, but splinter groups using a wide range of labels have tried to continue the campaign.
Which tells me the perps do not represent the IRA ... although it will take the blame.

I have a different take.

It’s about time people in the UK do what ever it takes to escape the prison of socialism they find themselves in.

They in fact need to remove their socialist masters by what wvwr means they can.

The west has been appeasing middle east terrorists for 10 years...you think the rest of the world won’t pick up on that...?

Right. Also, they should all stop eating organ meat, visit the dentist twice a year, and stop referring to soccer as "football," and producing television sitcoms that Americans can't understand.

George W. Bush (Sept 20, 2001): "You are either with us, or you are with the terrorists." Not every rocket launched from Gaza into Isreal was officially sanctioned by Hamas. I'm sure if the IRA wanted to distance themselves from these guys, they could do so fairly easily.

The IRA killed nearly 1,800 people from 1970 to 1997 in a failed effort to force Northern Ireland out of the United Kingdom and into the Republic of Ireland.

That is only part of the IRS's struggle. Their primary goal is to impose a socialist/marxist state along the lines of Cuba.

I thought Bono, who lives in the coastal hills of Dublin, solved this problem years ago and then moved on to fixing Africa and AIDS. What is this world coming to?

If the Irish would convert to the raghead doctrine of Moehammedism the Brits would put their tails between their legs and go home.

This can’t be happening. Didn’t we just hear the news that the fat senator (name escapes me) who killed his pregnant girlfriend and covered it up with his Washington connections will get honorary British knighthood (”Sir”) for getting peace in NI.

Elections? Oh no, you mean by murdering British soldiers. OK. FREEEEEEDDDDOOOOOMMMM! And all that...

I think you should know however, that Irish Republican groups of all stripes tend to be extremely socialist politically...

While all of you are condemning the IRA, and they are a terrorist group, you might want to pay attention to the headline. “Gun Ambush?”. Yep, those nasty guns set up an ambush and shot several Brits, it wasn’t the IRA but the guns fault! This is just an example of the brain washing that will go on during the One’s period of reign.

I was on a lengthy bus tour in May of 2006, and we spent two nights in Belfast. I found it to be a very depressing place. There seemed to be a darkness about it. To me it seemed like the tensions were still there, simmering just beneath the surface, and that it wouldn't take much for the violence to start all over again.

On the tour of the city, various memorials to IRA members were pointed out to us. The guide briefly mentioned that Belfast had been bombed during WWII, and that approximately 28 people were killed, many others injured, and at least 400 families became homeless. After the tour, I asked the guide that since there were so many memorials to dead IRA members, if there was a memorial to those who died in the 1941 bombing. Her reply was that she thought they had planted some flowers on a small piece of ground near the site. There was no stone tablet, nothing to distinguish it from any other landscaped site in the city. I can't say I was surprised over that. In fact, my specific reason for asking her about it was because I had already known what her answer was going to be.

Below are photos of murals painted on the sides of buildings in Belfast. Murals like these are all over the place:

Phrase on the above photo: "The largest concentration camp in the world!! 33 million innocent people tortured, denied their freedom!!"

I really disliked Belfast, and couldn't wait to leave. I'd never go back, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else either. The fact that I only took three photos while we were there attests to my dislike. The third photo was of the Crown Bar, which is an historic landmark. And the only reason I took a photo of it was because it sat across from our hotel, The Europa.

Seriously, the United States does not belong in the various Native American territories. And Isreal does not belong in Palestine. Etc.

As long as Marxist terrorists who call themself Catholic use violence to advance their cause I will be pulling for the British in Northern Ireland. And I’m an Irish Catholic who used to work for a children’s charity in Belfast.

The IRA has been up to a string of bank robberies of late as well.

Looks like the troubles are back.

Is this how it’s going to be Gerry Adams? Your Sinn Fain pals no longer benefiting from the good Irish economy so the IRA goons go out and stir up some trouble for the extortion money?
