One or several of those governors may go on the attack starting a year from now. Someone has to take the lead for the Republicans and offer some “audacity” and “hope”. Because once Obama gets much more of what he really wants, all he will have to offer is more arrogance. Don’t give up on democracy. Obama will try, and that will be the end of him.

All of the governors will take at least some stimulus money. They’d be stupid not to-—for one thing, federal money that had been allocated legitimately for federal projects within their states (such as on military bases, interstate roads) are tied up now in the stimulus bill. I believe the money that the 6 governors are opposed to and should reject are those funds for additional social programs or ones which add people to the rolls such that when the federal money dries up the courts will say the states must continue to fund these programs.

The money is going to be spent regardless. While it would enhance the national reputation of these governors to reject all the stimulus money, they will get crucified in their own states as voters see other states getting money while they do not.

I say the side of Liberty only needs one governor with guts to take this CONgress to court over this particular provision of the porkulus maximus crap-samich.

Let those black-robed tyrants in the federal judiciary sign their names of support to this raw, naked power grab by Ogabe and his comrades on the hill.

Force them to come out. Force them to say “red light” or “green light” and soon, like before summer.

You are so correct!

IIRC, Gov. Haley Barbour said that he might accept part of the stimulus, but not all of it.

His problem was the money for welfare. I believe that would be in effect for two years. After that, the state would have to take care of it.

He doesn’t want the state to inherit a problem that has already been resolved.

Can’t say that I blame him, and I applaud him for being forthcoming.

Having said all of that, I believe what Obama is trying to do is unconstitutional (not that he’s ever worried about that), and that the Supremes will correct the problem of the feds encroachment on the states’ rights.

Even with Ginsburg...

Nope, wasn't fooled at all...I voted for Carter on the basis of Ford's pardon of Nixon (as I've found out, I was one of millions who voted this way). My vote for McGovern was due to the exuberance of youth.

I voted for Perry, only because he was the lesser of all evils, to include Kinky and the "Grandmother with Five Last Names". I only regret that I didn't leave it blank.

In a primary race between Goodhair and the Cheerleader, I'm voting "none of the above".

The black Rep. who put that clause in said he did it to prevent white southern governors from taking money away from "black folk" in their states.

Clyburn's his name and raaaacism's his game. Unfortunately, he's from South Carolina....

Ping to our most fav House Rep.

South Carolina Ping

I believe ANWAR is considered Federal land. Even if Palin were to give the finger to Washington, she would have to find a company to do the drilling. I suspect there would be no takers. I doubt Alaska has the knowledge or material resources to take on the task itself. Perhaps there are some independents around could be hired to do the drilling.

Of course, things could get real dicey if the Feds decided to send armed agents and or military in to Alaska to prevent the drilling. Couldn’t use the Alaska NG because I doubt Palin would sign the document necessary to Federalize her NG.

But it certainly would set up the possiblity for the “second shot heard around the world”. Fascinating how quickly people are transitioning to a “revolutionary” state of mind.

I am not surprised at all by Clyburns paranoid rascist outlook. I went to his DC office once to talk about his lack of support for Gen Petreaus and he went into this rant about sitting at the back of the bus. He made no sense at all.

The honorable governors reservations are as symbolic as he Constitution

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Simple congressional legislation does not supersede the 10th amendment.

Unfortunately, because they worry about PR more than us, they are more afraid of the MSM than us.

Sure, because we do nothing. We make phone calls or write letters and that is about it. The leeches rally and protest.

"For one, I think Alaska should succeed and start drilling in ANWR the day after they do so."

You mean seceed. The Checks and Slovaks did it and are just fine after doing it right. It doesn't need to be violent at all. Alaska can become a commonwealth without overbearing Washington D.C. laws. Puerto Rico is a commonwealth. The difference is that Alaska is self-sufficient.

If Alaska succeeds in seceding, they should drill ANWR immediately.
