Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | February 16, 2009 | Salena Zito

From Rasmussen:

Senator Arlen Specter is one of only three Republicans to support the economic stimulus bill in Congress, and the latest Rasmussen Reports survey in Pennsylvania shows that his position is costing him support back home.

Just 31percent of Keystone State voters say are more likely to vote for Specter because of his position on the stimulus package while 40 percent are less likely to do so.

A look inside the numbers shows the problem for Specter may be even more significant. Fifty

Specter has helped in many key areas (remember Roberts and Alito?). He’s not worse than a Dem. I’d rather get rid of a Dem somewhere. I really wish we could get a conservative Republican in there, though.

I hope he is defeated. I'd like to see Rick Santorum run against him. The media helped defeat Santorum last time, and I don't think the Bush Administration supported him as much as they should have. I will not give one cent to the RNC until they promise not to give any money to Specter and Snowe. Collins was just reelected, but I don't want any of my dollars going to her when she seeks another term. The best message to send Republicans is to turn them out of office and then they'll find out we're serious about ‘constituents interests’. The only reason Lindsey Graham was reelected was to keep from electing a Democrat who could have his arm twisted to go along with “Howdy Doody” Pelosi.

I had to laugh when I was watching TV tonight--Arlen is already running campaign ads asking us to "call and thank him" for his stimulus vote. So pathetic.

Take your logical and level headed rationalization and shove it where the sun don’t shine.

This bastard just cost my grandchildren trillions of dollars and lined many crooked demoncrap pockets with billions.

And you try to rationalize keeping him in the Republican party?

You are naive.

Gahhh, ‘Pennsylvania state’ did not vote Murtha back in!
His district did.

Do some of you know the difference in voting for a Representative versus a Senator?

I guess only God knows if Specter will be back. Hopefully someone good will oppose Spec if he is able to run again.

>I dont think he would live out another term, health wise, and I think he knows it.<

Why do this? Does he really believe that saddling this nation with back-breaking debt, which he will not have to bear, is the right thing to do? If you’re looking at the end of your life, why not stand up to make the place better before you leave. Was this all just to make Obama happy because he got to have cocktails at the White House?

Snarlin Arlen is a CREEP......but he will do SOMETHING conservative right before the election and the voters will forget how AWFUL he is.

Sure I know the difference, but when all is said and done, the net result is the same. I certainly did not vote for Murtha from Montana. He had to be elected by folks from ACORN and Pennsylvania.

Well, I see that you already have YOUR head there, so why don’t you pull it out and read instead of acting like you no longer can tell one of those parts from the other?

I would love to get rid of Specter and get a conservative in there—and I’d love to get rid of a Democrat elsewhere. You seem to be saying you’d love to get rid of Specter and get a Democrat in there.

Yes, I’m naive. I sometimes think that my fellow FReepers are more than knee-jerks. It’s good of you to remind me that some are still the type who so joyfully got us into this predicament, all the while crying out against that awful thing called “logic” (and reality).

Why not just go away and spend your time convincing Sen. Specter to caucus with the Dems so we don’t have to wait til the next election—that’s what you want, isn’t it?

It was to get funding for the NIH.

He should have put forth a separate bill for the NIH funding and let the Dems shoot it down. But they bought him out.

Thanks for some sane analysis. If there can be a way to get rid of him in a primary, it's time to try it as long it looks like the Republican has a reasonable chance at winning.
