Nancy Pelosi had heard enough, thank you very much, after two enraged House Democrats rose at Tuesdays caucus meeting to bitterly denounce the Senates take-it-or-leave-it offer on the stimulus.
It wasnt because Pelosi wasnt ticked off herself quite the opposite.
At a certain point, after a couple of members had expressed themselves, she asked that future speakers not address that issue because it was reminding her how angry she was, said Rep. Anthony D. Weiner (D-N.Y.), who was in the room.
When Pelosi emerged from behind closed doors a few minutes later to address the press, she wore the broadest possible smile on her face. But her words expressed the grimmest possible resolve, as she girded for a conference committee battle on the stimulus destined to yield, at best, partial victory.
Usually you go to conference and split the difference between the two houses that may not be the case here, Pelosi said. At these conferences, my experience has been that the White House has a seat at the table that they weigh in.
Both Obama and Pelosi are hoping to restore significant stimulus spending eliminated by the Senate, especially $21 billion in school construction and technology grants, $10.3 billion in COBRA insurance and $8.6 billion in new Medicaid coverage for the unemployed.
The Senate passed its $830 billion stimulus bill Tuesday but it wouldnt have passed at all without the support of three moderate Republicans and a conservative Democrat who helped the Democratic majority obtain the 60 votes necessary to stop a filibuster.
Majority Leader Harry Reids solution has created its own set of problems for the speaker. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) all have publicly insisted that the measure emerge more or less unchanged...

Oh, you said Bo*C*a Vista. My oops...
>Why is there not more talk about Snowe? It seems the focus is always on
>Collins or Spector.
Can’t answer your question directly, but I felt we were treated better by her senior staff than by the others’. We had to wait maybe 10 minutes, but the man who came out walked across the hall to a beautiful conference room, ushered us in and proceeded to talk with us, listen to our points and arguments, and respond patiently. Considering we didn’t have an appointment, that meant a lot, I think. Of course, I have no idea how much of that discussion might filter back to the Senator, but I believe he heard things he had not heard before because much of it was not just the usual talking points — a good deal was our personal stories, concerns, and logical arguments. I suspect he felt he was talking with plain, concerned Americans, not politicians trying to pressure him or the Senator for political gain.
All I really know is that a day after we made those visits, all three made statements to the effect that they WOULD vote NO if the conference committee (all Dems) made significant changes in amount or scope to the Senate bill. That was a major request made by one member of our group. Of course, we’ll believe it when we see it.
All in all, it was a HECKUVA lot better than maybe talking to a secretary who just might be nodding off or taking tranqs to keep from screaming! Keep calling though, they ARE counting pros and cons, and it sounded like the CONS were way ahead when we were there.

Um.... Nancy, darling... That's because we used to have GROWNUPS in the White House. He's your party and he's your president. Deal with it!
The turncoats can be moved. None of their posturing has any credibility. All the Dems have to do is promise to shovel more money to Maine for them to cave like punctured balloons.
This is all window dressing...the important things the dems want will be in the bill and they are trying to make it look reasonable after certain irrelevancies are cut.
If you threaten to cut off both arms, and then compromise at cutting off one arm, is it a reasonable spl;itting of the difference?
Don’t fall for the kool aid folks.
THE STREETS OF D. C.
As I was was out strollin the HALLS OF THE CONGRESS
As I was out strolling THE CONGRESS one day,
I spied THE FAT PORKULUS, all dresssed in white linen,
All wrapped in white linen as cold as the clay.
I can see by your suit that you are CONSERVATIVE
These words he did say as I boldly walked by.
Come an’ sit down beside me an’ hear my sad story.
RUSH PULLED ALL MY TEETH; THEN he LEFT ME TO die.”
I was once in the saddle, I used to go dashing.
Once in the saddle, I used to go gay.
First to the HOUSE AND THEN TO THE SENATE
but RUSH SHOT ME IN THE BREAST AND I’M DYING TODAY.
Get six jolly CONSERVATIVES to carry my coffin.
Six ANGRY TAXPAYERS to bear up my pall.
Throw hundreds of TAX CUTS ALL over my coffin.
TAX CUTS TO DEADIN OUR COUNTRY’S BAD FALL.”
Then beat the drum slowly, play the Fife lowly.
Play the dead march as you carry me along.
BURY ME ‘NEATH WALL STREET AN lay the sod o’er me,
FOR I WAS JUST PORK LARD and I know I WAS WRONG.
Ladies and Gentlemen, let me present the three Republicans who voted to bring Socialism to our Country.
No Hearings, No Markup, Socialized Medicine, 4.8 Billion to ACORN
Do everything in your power to oppose and defeat each of these Senators in their upcomming elections.
The negative calls and emails are starting to take their toll on the democRats overly confident ramrod agenda!
Am keeping up the pressure. Calling McCaskill again, and asking Bond to hold firm.
Thanks for going to DC Monday and Tuesday on our behalf!
I don’t believe a word from their mouths . . . they’re all despicable “republicans” and should change party affiliations.
“Take your president as yet another example. Unaccomplished, incompetent and acerbic.”
You mean B’roke Odooma?? He’s an empty suit. This is all orchestrated by the men behind the curtain.
With a touch of Nazi Pelousey and bedwetter dingy Harry.
Done! All we can do is try.
You’re welcome
Everyone should read this about Pelosi.
Would love to see her head spin off her shoulders! Have emailed The Three Stooges and Michael Steele (again). Please, kill this pig.
Me too.
