Republican Defectors Facing Backlash For Stimulus Support [Defeat Porkulus!!}

The three Republican senators supporting President Barack Obama’s $827 billion stimulus bill are drawing the wrath of many conservatives who say the massive spending in the plan could tip the country into depression.

Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Pennsylvania's Sen. Arlen Specter were lambasted on conservative Web sites throughout the weekend, and were the subjects of angry calls by many of their constituents, according to reports.

“Arlen Specter is DONE,” wrote a blogger named steelfish on the FreeRepublic Web site. “He won his last primary by less than 1 percent against a real conservative of Pat Toomey. And only because the President Bush came to PA and campaigned for him.He is DONE.”

“They are frauds. RINOS (Republicans in Name Only),’’ wrote a blogger named Croupier101 on the Fox News blog site.

On TV news shows Sunday, their Republican colleagues distanced themselves and downplayed their significance as Republicans in helping the president pass his package.

"This agreement is not bipartisan," Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., told CBS' "Face the Nation."

"I've been in bipartisan agreements, many. This is three Republican senators. Every Republican congressman voted against it in the House, plus Democrats. And all but three Republicans stayed together on this. That's not bipartisanship. That's just picking off a couple of senators," McCain said.

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, who as head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said the trio’s support must have been disappointing to Obama, who has staked much on his ostensible ability to transcend the partisan divide.

"Having three Republicans, potentially, support it in the Senate out of 535 members of Congress is hardly a bipartisan effort. I think it's a disappointment -- surely must be for President Obama," Cornyn told "FOX News Sunday."

When the minority of Americans who actually vote find out what is in the Porkulus bill, they will be livid at anyone who voted for this monstrosity. It has nothing to do with stimulus, but everything to do with political pay offs.

They've been RINOS for years....now. And nothing had changed.

Heck we have current FReeper's supporting them........as better than "what we might get".

I will bet you $20...these two stay in office until they turn to old prunes.......Why? Because the voters are stupid.........

Which is PRECISELY why Mitch McConnell and Michael Steele should be asking ALL Republicans to refer to the bill as the PORKULUS BILL,,,,and nothing else!!!

That might even put a little pressure on Specter, Snowe and Collins. The names (and nicknames) of bills,,,DO MATTER.

I project that Collins and Snowe are in for a heap of trouble next time an election comes around.

Even if they and Specter are thrown out, they couldn't care less. They are insulated from their mistakes, as all of the politicians are, since they have taxpayer-funded retirements. The damage has been done. They are out but the "stimulus" is still in - and only the taxpayer is screwed.

We’re all behind you Jim.

God bless you Jim and all who are able to show up and support your efforts.

I can't be there, but my computer will be active tomorrow e-mailing supporters of the bottomless black hole renamed stimulus package. Thus far money wastage is the hallmark of the Obama administration. Inaugural dollars spent were but a drop in the bucket compared to this package which will have neverending repercussions for ALL taxpaying* Americans.

*excluding members of the Obama non-taxpaying cabinet

"I hope they will look at the fact that we were able to cut $110 billion of unnecessary spending from this bill. I think that's a good accomplishment.”

It has nothing to do with money Senator! The sole purpose of this bill is to advance socialism by expanding government!

Congrats steelfish, you’re famous!!

Famous doesn't count for much .. if, however, you turn out to be a prophet (in this instance) drinks are on me if you're ever in H-Town.

OK Mr. Big Brother, I'll be sure to curtail my language in order to meet your standards.
I would not want to get into FR trouble for calling those assholes "douchbags" which they honestly are.

Reading through DU is like listening to children learning how to swear for the first time. We need to conduct ourselves like adults here. While you are completely entitled to your opinions and word choice, we don't want to let our usually high level of class slip.

"They are insulated from their mistakes, as all of the politicians are, since they have taxpayer-funded retirements."

I have a friend who worked for the MBTA (a quasi Government outfit here in eastern Massachusetts ) who retired after just 23 years of so-called work.

This fellow is making a lot of dough doing nothing. He moved out of the State and has a new job making as much dough as he used to for the MBTA while doing pretty much nothing.

I don't know what he is doing exactly now, but he is making a hell of a lot of dough even w/out the new job.

Am I supposed to act civil out here while my own friends are robbing me?

I do not think so!

This BS needs to be ended.

Yeah, maybe a Puritan’s Room would be better.

I can recall some guy correcting someone when they said Sh!t. (Not here, it was a real life face to face).
He told the person they should say Sugar instead.
It’s not like no one knows what Sugar is intended to mean.

This is a free Country and by living in a free Country you have no right to not be offended.

But people don’t get that.

Jim I remember years ago reading about how the Democrats keep the Maine senators in line...It has something to do with a government facility that they threaten to close.

It has a large number of people employed at it......If this is made public maybe it would not have the power to control them.....Is there anyone that remembers or knows what facility this is?

The truth will set us free!

Indiana’s Evan Bayh might be a good target....It is rumored that he is very upset with the way the democrat party is heading....He might relate to a previous democrat telling why the party left him, he didn’t leave the party speach.

Bye, -bye,-Bayh needs a good freeping.

In December he tried to organize fellow senate member into a group that would equal the “Blue Dogs” in the house. He knows who is wavering against the far left in the Senate. Should be encouraged to renege on this bill and encourage others to do the same.

Last week he spoke openly about the problems of this bill on national TV.

He is running for reelection in 2010

Remind him that either Mike Pence or Mitch Daniels would be good fiscal conservatives to take his seat.

Killing babies, taking my money at the point of a gun, teaching our children that “fisting” is normal, gay marriage, banning guns, eliminating talk radio, ad infinitum....is OK?

Take your provincial attitude and condescension to where ever what ever rock you found it under.

I doubt that you actually even know where the term “civil” even arose from.
