Republican Defectors Facing Backlash For Stimulus Support [Defeat Porkulus!!}

The three Republican senators supporting President Barack Obama’s $827 billion stimulus bill are drawing the wrath of many conservatives who say the massive spending in the plan could tip the country into depression.

Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Pennsylvania's Sen. Arlen Specter were lambasted on conservative Web sites throughout the weekend, and were the subjects of angry calls by many of their constituents, according to reports.

“Arlen Specter is DONE,” wrote a blogger named steelfish on the FreeRepublic Web site. “He won his last primary by less than 1 percent against a real conservative of Pat Toomey. And only because the President Bush came to PA and campaigned for him.He is DONE.”

“They are frauds. RINOS (Republicans in Name Only),’’ wrote a blogger named Croupier101 on the Fox News blog site.

On TV news shows Sunday, their Republican colleagues distanced themselves and downplayed their significance as Republicans in helping the president pass his package.

"This agreement is not bipartisan," Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., told CBS' "Face the Nation."

"I've been in bipartisan agreements, many. This is three Republican senators. Every Republican congressman voted against it in the House, plus Democrats. And all but three Republicans stayed together on this. That's not bipartisanship. That's just picking off a couple of senators," McCain said.

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, who as head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said the trio’s support must have been disappointing to Obama, who has staked much on his ostensible ability to transcend the partisan divide.

"Having three Republicans, potentially, support it in the Senate out of 535 members of Congress is hardly a bipartisan effort. I think it's a disappointment -- surely must be for President Obama," Cornyn told "FOX News Sunday."

Well that may be true but the facts are that they really don’t need the Republicans to Ultimately pass this POS, even in the most optimistic case they could make changes around the edges. Unfortunately, only a huge public outcry might really change this but the Democrats must feel it and that won’t happen for some time.

It isn’t going to take much more to push people to set off runs at the banks, which will happen when it’s clear Obama’s “stimulus” idiocy, especially the massive debt he’s raking up on top of the massive debt we already own results in a huge debt collapse.

And when those bank runs start, we are looking at bank closers are a rate 10x that of the last depression, about 2,560 a week.

Plus, all that money the government has been throwing away into a black hole trying to re-inflate the housing bubble will just be massive national debt with absolutely nothing to show for it.

The housing market is going to collapse, which is great for those who have cash saved up for a bargain house, only they had better strike fast before the dollar tumbles. Lots of wealthy people are going to be buying up real estate as well before their cash reserves loose their value as well.

It’s going to be a hectic year if all this unravels; people who remortgaged their homes thinking they were smart taking out huge amounts of equity loans, thinking cheap cash was good, are really going to be kicking themselves when the banks, desperate for cash, start calling in those equity loans just as these people get their last severance check from their former employer.

Interest rates are bound to skyrocket as well.

And to think, none of this needed to happen if only our retarded government would have done the right thing, the simplest of all which would have been to do NOTHING! The best would have been to slash taxes and cut government spending.

Over on the conservative discussion forum Free Republic, partisan Republicans are desperately trying to separate themselves from those Senate Republicans cutting a deal to pass a massive "stimulus" spending bill, a tough task given the fact the Republican Party will in no way discipline "yea" votes and the RNC will continue to spend millions re-electing those senators.

One reader, posting as AdLibertas, gets it and calls his own party to task:

"In this thread, the grousing about how only a handful of Republican Senators voted with the Democrats in favor of the "stimulus" bill is intriguing. Particularly interesting is how the Nay votes of the majority of them are construed to mean they are for tax cuts and for liberty.

"I state (without proof) that the reason most Republicans voted against the bill is that the bill so empowers the political left that it threatens their cushy Senate and House jobs—we don’t give them credit for much, but they are smart enough to know that giving hundreds of billions to unions, ACORN, etc. is going to cripple their own re-elections and chances for political advancement. Remember: the raison d’etre of political parties is to propagate and empower the party—almost any action in-line with the will of the people is coincidental.

"Furthermore, let’s not forget that President Bush—i.e. Republican—signed into law the TARP and bailed out the automakers against public majority sentiment. This act very clearly sided ‘against voters to explode the national debt and expand the government.’"

Good for steelfish, but now it seems pretty certain Pat Toomey won’t be challenging Specter in the 2010 primary; Toomey’s seriously considering running for governor, and I look forward to supporting him if he does. However, that removes Specter’s one likely well-known challenger, and makes it likely that Specter will face only a weak, however impassioned, challenge from a less powerful Republican opponent, as in 1992 when state lawmaker Steven Freind took him on in the primary and lost 35 - 65%. Toomey was a US Congressman, a bright guy and original thinker, recently working at the Club for Growth.

Steele needs to show what his philosophy and politics are or I'll be returning those requests for donations or tossing them in the trash like I did with the ones from Duncan. If the Republican Party was really serious about stopping the Porkulus Bill,,,

Mitch McConnell and Michael Steele should ask EVERY Republican,,,,

EVERY time they mention the Porkulus Bill,,,

to call it JUST THAT!!

Everyone knows how important names and titles of bills are--in shaping public opinions and perceptions--

therefore, it should be referred to ONLY as the Porkulus Bill, and nothing else!!

Calling the "Death Tax" exactly that--helped to get support for stopping it. Let the general public hear the term PORKULUS BILL over and over and over,,,and then...over again!!

Of course, we all that the GOP is not serious about stopping it,,,so they won't do it.
