And Then There Were Two? (Collins wavering, Snowe & Specter still in) [Keep the pressure on!!]

Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) just said in a radio interview that only two “Republican” Senators are still actively attempting to provide the Democrats “bipartisan” cover for their nearly $1,000,000,000,000.00 borrow-and-spend bill.

Based on what I’ve been hearing from around the Hill, and Roll Call’s report that Sen. Collins (R-ME) was having misgivings about betraying her party and constituents, those two are (definitely) Arlen Specter (PA) and (most likely) Olympia Snowe (ME).

In the radio interview, Burr said nobody knows if the vote, initially planned for 7pm, will actually happen tonight (translation: despite his typically hotheaded rhetoric, Harry Reid lacks the votes to give himself “bipartisan” cover and therefore to make this bill’s passage politically worthwhile), and that ” out of every 10 calls coming in about the [so-called] stimulus, 9.9 of them are against the bill.”

Keep calling Senators Specter, Snowe, and Collins at 202-224-3121. Tell them that if this trillion dollar borrow-and-spend-on-pork plan is going to pass, it needs to do so as a Democrat-only measure.

The Democrats campaigned on a platform of unadulterated liberalism, which they pledged to implement if they gained enough seats in both houses to do so. They have the votes to pass this and other policies that are doomed to fail once implemented; the Republicans’ job is simply to propose principled alternatives, and to make Democrats own their own proposals on a party-line basis.

Call Senators Specter, Snowe, and Collins at 202-224-3121. Tell them not to help the Democrats drag this country’s economy into the gutter.

These are the 10 Leading Economic Indicators from The Conference Board:

1. Average number of initial applications for unemployment insurance 2. Number of manufacturers’ new orders for consumer goods and materials 3. Speed of delivery of new merchandise to vendors from suppliers 4. Amount of new orders for capital goods unrelated to defense 5. Amount of new building permits for residential buildings 6. The S&P 500 stock index 7. Inflation-adjusted money supply (M2) 8. Spread between long and short interest rates (the yield curve) 9. Consumer sentiment 10. Average weekly hours worked by manufacturing workers

Any stimulus package and/or Government practices that don’t drive these items in 2009 won’t lead us out of the recession in 2009.

Hold their feet to the fire. These RINOs need to know how their constituents feel about Porkulus Maximus and should be afraid of the voter’s wrath when they come up for re-election.

I don't think two are enough to break a filibuster if Kennedy is still not there.

Current make-up of the Senate is 56 D, 2 Ind (Lieberman and Sanders), 41 R plus one disputed (MN).

Both Lieberman and Sanders caucus with the Democrats and will slavishly vote with them -- giving the D's 58 votes (including Teddy K).

But, to gain cloture, the Dems need 60 votes. Meaning, as you posed, they need at least two R's...plus Kennedy.

They need to vote NO or at least Present, if they can’t vote NO

As a respectful tribute to Dear Leader, that is exactly what the Repubs should do from now on. Let the Dems own every bit of their destruction of America.

Come on Reps. Do the right thing. Make the Democrats own this whole. Whether the vote passes or fails, make them own it. And take as much flesh out of of them and Obama as you can in the process. Make the cost of this to their political careers more then the cost of this package.

Imagine if McCain had chosen Lieberman as his running mate and Sarah had remained in Alaska completely unknown and probably never to be a national figure.

As I mentioned before wouldn’t it be ironic that McCain could eventually be responsible for the resurrection of Reagan conservatism and the Republican party? God does have an interesting sense of humor.

Judd Gregg has said he won’t be voting while his aappointment is pending. Of course on cloture no vote is as good as a ‘no’ vote, so that is ok.

Bribing a couple of RINO’s to vote yes on Porkulus does not make a “bipartisan” effort.
