Officials confirm Warner fumbled at game's end
NBC Sports ^ | 2/2/09 | Tom Curran

(excerpted)... According to NFL VP of Officiating Mike Pereira, the replay official upstairs did see the play clearly.

“We confirmed it was a fumble,” said Pereira. “The replay assistant in the replay booth saw it was clearly a fumble. The ball got knocked loose and was rolling in his hand before it started forward. He has to have total control.”

It was not a fumble. His arm was moving forward. The ball went forward at an angle of a pass.

No, I guess no one is reading the article.

But he did not have full control. If the ball is in the air you could advance the ball forward by slapping it. Yes your arm is moving forward, yes the ball goes forward in the area of an area of a receiver, but no, you do not have control of the ball. And IMO Warner did not have control of the ball when his arm was going forward. And I really wanted the Cardinals to win the game.

There are a lot of famous fumbles. The NFL said so...

(for those of you unable to see the video, it is the ‘Holy Roller’ play by the Raiders)

now and forever a ‘fumble’...

Holding in the end zone was obvious....and the play before that the back clearly did not get the ball out of the endzone past the white line.

You can go put a ballerina dress on with Rothlesburger, if he was barely touched, a bogus roughing the passer called....if Warner was malled no call.

If Tom Brady was the QB on that last play it would have been an incomplete pass.

There was a huge disparity in penalties (over 100 yards to 50)...The 11 penalties whistled on Arizona included a preposterous roughing the passer penalty on a play that wouldn't have been uncommon in touch football...That came on a drive that saw two personal foul penalties on the Cards, one of which gave the Steelers another chance to score from the goal line.

What happened to “you can't use the ball as a prop?” Holmes sure did that with his little LeBron James impression. Using the ball as a prop is an automatic 15-yard penalty on the kickoff.

The Steelers are a dirty team as showcased by #92, who Madden politely indicated should be thrown out, to their idiot safety trying to fight the Arizona receiver and coach out of bounds. It starts with their Zero supporting owner, and the corrupt owners sons in bed with corrupt politicians running corrupt gambling ‘business’.

Pittsburgh is lucky the league has no rule that you can't have wife-beaters on your team (Holmes and Harrison)

On every call the Steelers got the benefit of doubt, Whisenhunt almost ran out of challenges just trying to correct the obvious ones....around 3rd quarter where I was everyone I was with including Steelers fans was saying the game was fixed, and the officials were paid off.

Go look at the YouTube video and ask yourself honestly if the poster’s view that it was a pass (12 ft. with a little wobbling spiral) was not in fact a pass.

If it was Tom Brady it would have been ruled an incomplete pass.

if they sing like American Idol rejects, don’t come cryin’ to me!

Nully may sing like a veteran NFL lineman, and Darks sounds like Caspar. But they didn't make the terms of the bet.

I did.

Two dances for welshing (is that a racist term?) on your bet instead of one.

Now let's go, pom poms up!

:-)

I really didn't care who won as I had no horse in the race. On the Rothlesburger TD which was over turned, I called it as he was being tackled and I was shocked they actually overturned it! The first time Warner fumbled and again another red flag. Rothlesburger I believe in the 3rd or 4th quarter clearly throws the ball away, intentional grounding; no call! I mean calling “running into the holder” was a joke! Two Steelers SBs now very questionable!

Never mind the personal fouls or blocks in the back on the interception return! I also believe Holmes never got his right foot down on the gaming winning catch. There is a photo that shows the right foot caught on the cleats of the left shoe as he is falling out of bounds. Now the videos have been taken off you-tube by the NFL.

I truly believe for the integrity of the game they needed to review Warner's incomplete pass, whether or not they over turned in the end!

Please read my last post. I outlined numerous calls and non-calls that did not go the Steelers' way. Your statement is preposterous.

Maybe you can complain about a call here or there, but to say every call went the Steelers way is ignorant.

Read the article. They did review it. It was just so obviously a fumble they didn't need to waste 5 minutes on it.

I am talking about during the game and letting the Referee announce it; saying the play was reviewed and the call stands. It was the third time a close went against the Cards and this time they could not throw the red flag! At 2:01 on the clock the Cards can at 15 seconds they can not!

Barack Obama’s own investigation showed he wasn’t involved with Blago, either. And we all know what we thought about THAT.

The NFL is going to support its own version of events. Whether or not you believe it is up to you.

I don’t have a dog in this fight. I, unfortunately, am a Vikings fan. And I do think it was an incomplete pass. Not that it matters now.

The officials in the replay booth alert the on-field referee if they need to stop action so that they can review something.

As has been pointed out numerous times, the replay official saw that it was an obvious fumble. The defender knocked the ball loose well before the QB made any attempt to move his arm forward. No control means no pass is possible. No need to stop action to review it.

End of story.

It's a fact that it was interpreted as a fumble. Now the question is, was it the correct interpretation?

Considering that the replay official thought it was so clear as to not warrant a review by the referee, I'd have to go for "yes" on that question.

Know what you’re talking about before talking? Remember who won in ‘72? Didn’t some team go undefeated? And what embarrassment? The NFL Head of Officials backed up the crew working Super Bowl XL. As far as last Sunday, I’m taking it you mean Fitzgerald’s “non-catch”, or how he ran for 30 yards out-of-bounds without being penalized, or the “holding” in the end zone which was just a Steeler lineman getting run over. You didn’t specify, so that’s what you must have meant. Now go cry as the Steeler fans celebrate!
