Officials confirm Warner fumbled at game's end
NBC Sports ^ | 2/2/09 | Tom Curran

(excerpted)... According to NFL VP of Officiating Mike Pereira, the replay official upstairs did see the play clearly.

“We confirmed it was a fumble,” said Pereira. “The replay assistant in the replay booth saw it was clearly a fumble. The ball got knocked loose and was rolling in his hand before it started forward. He has to have total control.”

Nobody is disputing that the officials made that call. Nobody is disputing that the replay official and the league both confirmed it.

Really?

Look at all the threads saying it was not a fumble.

Are you incapable of understanding the concept of officials being wrong about something?

Are you incapable of understanding that the play is now and forever will be a fumble?

His right foot was in contact with the sole of his left foot...

After the right foot touched turf.

...and never touched turf.

Bzzzzt. Wrong.

I am saying that the review booth only reviewed the Warner fumble for 15-20 sec.!!

It was so obviously a fumble, they didn't even need that long.

Well, the rules are the rules and if applied equally Sunday Arizona takes home the Lombardi Trophy. If you can enjoy that tained win you are pathetic. Total bullsh*t, everyone knows it and is saying so.

Maybe you should consider what would have happened had it been ruled a pass. There were no receivers in the area (linemen) and Warner would have drawn an intentional grounding penalty. A mandatory 10 second runoff of the clock would have resulted. You should step away from the keyboard for a bit and regain your composure.

If it was Tom Brady it would have been ruled an incomplete pass and they would have let them line up for one more shot at the endzone.

This was a Super Bowl I wasn’t very interested in anyway. It was a goofy season too. I wanted AZ to win, but it really made no difference to me.

Ummmmmm...

Making someone fumble is not considered cheating. However, attempted welshing on a bet must be penalized by doubling the payout, or perhaps that would be doubling the take off.......

*Awaits full return on bet*

Pittsburgh may have six Lombardi trophies, but three were direct or indirect gifts from the NFL’s officials. Their first was the result of the wrong call on Franco Harris’ Immaculate Reception in 1972. The second was the NFL’s embarrassment against the Seahawks, and what we all say yesterday.

Hate the Steelers if you must, but try to not display your ignorance.

The Steelers lost the AFC Championship to the Dolphins the week after the Immaculate Reception. (1972 Dolphins, undefeated, ring a bell?)

The first Steeler Super Bowl came after the 1974 season.

When does Arizona take home the Lombardi Trophy? Sunday? I thought only one was given out each year. The Steelers won their sixth this past Sunday.

If you can enjoy that tained win you are pathetic.

Not only is the Steelers' victory in Super Bowl XLIII not tained, it's not tainted either.

Total bullsh*t, everyone knows it and is saying so.

Your posts? AGREED

Look at all the threads saying it was not a fumble.

Apparently you're incapable of distinguishing between what a play was called and what actually happened, or understanding that people might want to discuss whether there's a difference between the two. I'm guessing you're not actually that dense, but you do a good job pretending.

Are you incapable of understanding that the play is now and forever will be a fumble?

What are you, three years old?

There is no difference between the two. The play was called a fumble because the play was a fumble.

What are you, three years old?

Resorting to ad hominem attacks is a sure sign of failure.

I do agree with that assessment, but it still should have been reviewed during the game.

It was.

The replay assistant in the replay booth saw it was clearly a fumble.

It was so simple a call it didn't require a TV timeout and 5 minutes of hem-hawing. But it was reviewed in the booth.

It was not a fumble. His arm was moving forward. The ball went forward at an angle of a pass. and it wasn’t knocked out from behind.

The game had several bad calls, the roughing the passer called when Karlos Dansby had a clean hit on Roethlisberger was beyond absurd...(not leading with the helmet, no blow to the head, no dirty hits on the knees, only a split second after Roethlesberger threw it, etc)...that call was really bad.....in the room where I was watching everyone called out intentional grounding when the yellow flag indicator went up on the screen...even the Pittsburgh fans I was with thought it was intentional grounding...still in the pocket, no reciever in the area about to get sacked...

It was clear that the big money team (Steelers) got the benefit of doubt on every close call. The Pittsburgh Steelers as a team push the limits of rules...lots of contact in secondary (against the Ravens, they got away with an awful lot) and the linemen seem to always act juvenile after the whistle (as Madden put it #92 should have been thrown out.) (Football 101 for junior highers: play as hard as you can whistle to whistle, when the whistle blows STOP.)

Yes, that's why Big Ben's TD on the first drive was upheld. No wait, it wasn't.

That's why Warner's first fumble/interception replay was called a fumble. No, wait it wasn't.

That's why the Cardinals got called for a block in the back on Polamalu. No, wait they didn't.

That's why the Steelers got away with holding in the end zone. No, wait they didn't.

Maybe it's why the game-winning drive started without any penalties. NO, wait, they were called for holding on the first play.

That's some trenemdous advantage they had. You're right.
