Alarm & Muster
The Modern-Day Call-Tree for Emergency Preperation
Thomas Michael Fernandez, January 2009
Months before the first shots of the American Revolution were fired; colonials had devised and developed what appeared to be a modern day "call-tree." Though communication during the 18th Century was limited to pen, paper, and horseback, the network they had set up prior to the night of April 18, 1775 was almost as modern as today's communication abilities of cell phone, email, and video.

Thanks brother!
I don't want my kids growing up in the kind of communist hellhole my Ukranian Grandparents escaped from.
I'm an NRA life member, but I didn't get around to doing that until after Zero was elected. I'm still a GOA Life Member and I still give occasionally to the JPFO and the SAF. My wife and MiL are both going to be taking firearms courses here soon, as they don't like us guys having all the fun. After which, I'll probably try and sign 'em both up for both the NRA and the SAS.
The idea is, "do something". Even if it's only help set up a warning system that "here it comes".
Just so you know—SAS has many male members who are there to support us. We also offer a lifetime membership.
I am not affiliated w/ the NRA. Though I do play one on TV! =)

Brothers and Sisters of the Alarm & Muster:
Organization in the entire call-tree is becoming solid and we are quickly approaching Phase II of our project. Phase I has always been focused on the organization of a network of communication and the past 10-weeks has seen well-regulation in this area. We did experience a few speed bumps but its those that make us stronger.
Before I discuss Phase II of our project, I want to address logistics. The Southeast Region has become very large and discussions have been held over the past week in regards to its size. As a result of these discussions, it was decided to split the Southeast Region into the Southeast and South. A new Regional POC to oversee the new South Region has been identified and will be announced next week; Jim Horton will remain as the POC over the Southeast United States. A diagram of how the Alarm & Muster Regions will be divided can be seen here.
For those of you who have not had any contact w/ your POCs (state or region), please do so quickly or you will be left behind in our growth and will result in you being left out. The aim of the Alarm & Muster is communication and the only direction is forward.
With the growth of our tree, Phase II will be implemented in the next few weeks. The latter months of 1774 into the early months of 1775, the colonials had perfected their network of communication to the point that they had designated muster locations. A gentleman in northern Florida is already doing this and the entire network should do the same. More on this will be discussed at a later time.
For now, I am announcing that ready or not? The call-tree test will be implemented this week.
At a time of my choosing, I will make a call to all of the Regional POCs with the words, Call to Muster. This is a test of the Alarm & Muster. Ride out. It will be their duty to call their State POCs and relay to them the same. State POCs, it will be your duty to contact your POCs under you and so on. For those of you who have independent lists, if youd like to integrate them into the test, inform them of a coming test this week. When the call comes to you from your POC, then you make your calls to your tree. This is not a time for phone conversations or pleasantries. Ride-out, alert those you have stewardship over, and ride on to the next town. Dont linger!
After the test is implemented, I will be asking the Regional POCs to collect feedback. I will also have sleepers in the group to report to me as to whether they received a call or not. So if youre a Regional, State, District, or Camp POC, be sure your own tree is in order.
Pictured above is a mustard tree. If you have not had the opportunity to hold a mustard seed in your hand, go to your local grocer into the spice section, find mustard seeds, and see just how small they are. Just one of those seeds, if properly nurtured, sprouts into the tree pictured above. We are a seedling project and just as a mustard seed grows into a large tree so birds may nest in its branches, so shall we grow to shelter those around us who are unable to shelter themselves.
Appeal to heaven,

For anyone interested, this call came today at about 6:30 PM. The folks I had email addresses/phone numbers for were contacted.
"1 if by land, 2 if by sea..."
Thank you Travis McGee :)
While calling the folks on my list, I felt like I needed a disclaimer. "If this had been an actual TEOTWAKI event..."
Gave me a good pause to stop and think about what I'd need to do next should things really Hit The Fan.
When I got the call, I was 25 miles from my main gear, had only my cell phone and carry pistol on me, and had just gotten out of a movie with my Wife and Father in Law.
If this had been a real event, I would have been caught completely flat footed.
Piece of advice to everyone ...... start running ... if it hits the fan there is no time to 'train up'.

I've missed entire years due to enlistment in the Marines, two kids, lack of job, and moving from MN to TX then TX back to MN.
Need more "in the field" time. Hard to do though...
Bump and PING.
We’ve been trying to determine how we can network as well for a “TEOTWAWKI/SHTF scenario.” Our first thought was like-minded FReepers who we know better than most of our neighbors (sad fact, but we’re still new to this state). This forum is still IMO one of the best resources for information and people, too.
Thanks for some more food for thought on ways to get things going.
