Caroline Kennedy has given up her bid for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton.

In a one-line statement citing personal reasons, the widely considered front-runner said Thursday she told New York Gov. David Paterson a day earlier that she was no longer interested in the job.

"I informed Governor Paterson today that for personal reasons I am withdrawing my name from consideration for the United States Senate."

The statement, provided by Kennedy's press person Stefan Friedman, was issued after hours of divergent reports Wednesday evening.

Which is it? AP says she won’t give up.

“Personal reasons”=”I, personally, have been exposed as a dingbat who can’t put a complete sentence together.”

Well, hallelujah, she made up her mind!

Or did she? Will there be a retraction in a few hours saying, ya know, she changed, ya know, her mind??

I think the “personal reason” is that Uncle Ted is not going to be in this world too much longer and she knows she’ll have a much easier time inheriting his seat than Sen. Clinton’s.

Actually, nothing confuses me more than the MSM trying to explain a Democrat’s actions.

No, some sort of scandal will be reported involving her.

This seat is being reserved for Chelsea. It took this dunderhead awhile, but it finally registered.

I wonder if this has anything to do with her uncle, or if she is coming to her senses and doesn’t want to be associated with Obama’s Administration, or the current New York “wing” of the Democrat Party... One can only hope.

On a personal note I do wish her well, and I hope that she would examine the Constitution a little closer and realize that her father wouldn’t have agreed with some of the things their beloved Democrat Party is doing right now. As for Ms. Kennedy having a job in the Senate — I think she should perhaps work in the city for a while to start out if she wants to go that route, and perhaps join Toastmasters or something to work on her public speaking skills, ya know? ;)

AP also says she's out after the earlier mixed signals.

Ah, I never thought about that, but that is a definite possibility. I just hope that if Chelsea does decide to run for whatever office, that she has better morals than her parents did. Maybe she has learned from watching and experiencing the repercussions of her parent’s mistakes? For her sake, I hope so. And, I hope that if she does get married that it’s NOT to a man with her father’s morals!

Good deal. Glad to hear it. I don’t want another generation of Kennedy’s being ensconced in our political institutions any more than they already are.

personal reason = pride

Better to pull out than to be rejected

Mario Coumo vetoed the death penalty in NY 12 years in a row.

Murders in NYC exceeded 2500 per year.

When he left and the GOP Governor signed the legislation the murder rate dropped 50%.

Coumo has the blood of THOUSANDS on his hands.

His son isn’t any more deserving of the senate seat than Princess Caroline.

I’m surprised to see it go this route. I thought she was a shoe-in.

The cynic in me says that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in that family, and that Chelsea taking mum’s seat would be like Michael Corleone becoming Godfather after Vito. The parent is bad enough, but the offspring is the true evil genius.

I actually consider this bad news, because a truly weak Democratic Senator would help improve the chances of Rep. Peter King in winning this seat. It now appears that this seat will, instead, go to a strong Democratic individual, and it will probably be much more difficult for Rep. Peter King to win this seat in ‘10.
