Maybe I'm just being too cynical, but somehow I doubt that Rep. Jose Serrano introduced HJ Res 5 in order to allow George W Bush to run for a third term in office. One week ago, the New York Democrat introduced a measure to repeal the 22nd Amendment, which provides the only term limit on federal office - the Presidency. The amendment, added in 1951, restricts anyone from seeking a third term in office, and Serrano wants that repealed.
Why now? Apparently, the notion of Hope and Change has overwhelmed Serrano to the point that he just can't stand to see Barack Obama limited to two terms in office. Never mind the fact that Obama has yet to start his first term, and no one knows yet whether heâd get re-elected in 2012. Maybe it's that New Deal vibe; Serrano may want to prepare the way for a more tangible comparison between Obama and FDR in 2016 and 2020.

There are more similarities between the "Hussein"-s, than their name.
Yep, that’s the first thing I noticed, too.
bttt
Right. But before we’re doomed we will get a royal screwing.
All it would do is affect the NEXT President after that.
The 22nd Amendment worked exactly that way, and there is tremendous precedent for such a restriction. The repeal would never get ratified without it.
This reminds me of Chavez in Venezuala.
This Serrono and his buddy Obama are Che` leftists.
Watch what they do.
I think you are underestimating Obama and the Dems.
When one considers what Bloomberg just pulled off with his own term limits as NYC mayor, this appears straight from the playbook.
The prospect of this happening is so frightening that I have made room for it on my very busy worry schedule. From now on I will worry about Obama serving more than two terms. I will do it every Wednesday between 1:00 and 1:15 pm, right after I worry about the Giant Asteroid and just before worrying about the heartbreak of psoriasis. |
Id prefer one 5 year term the limit
I don’t think you have it in the proper perspective — the INTENT and AUDACITY is the key here, whether or not they succeed.
And as I said in an earlier post — watch Chavez, who is just a few steps ahead of where Obama intends to take us.
I just had a thought.
Maybe we should all get behind this.
Just think — then Bill Clinton could run again! LOL
Obama could beat Hillary, but no way would he beat Bill Clinton. Maybe that’s the way to put an end to Obama’s presidency after his first term.
I’m not sure term limts on Congresscritters goes deep enough.
All of these guys have a staff to help them. A permanent staffer could work for various congressmen over the years and become experienced in their job.
A new congressman comes in and hires the experienced staffer, because hes experienced, and takes his advice.
What wed end up with (and probably have now to some extent) is an entrenced bureaucracy of permanent staffers who are the real power behind the elected officials. These would be people the voters cant reach to replace.
If we do this; we will move into dictatorships and there will be nothing but strife and unrest with dictatorships being turned over all of the time. In other words, unstable. The dimwits may think this will keep them in power; but it will do just the opposite.
In the 60’s Guatamala was being overturned about every 6 weeks. I don’t know about now; but it would be the worst thing in the world to do. This is why we have democracy so that we may have a stable government. The dimwits want you to believe their methods are stable when they are anything but.
The US will turn into a “third world” country with no economy to speak of.
I would like to see the 17th Amendment repealed. That would help IMHO.
GOD HAVE MERCY
WHAT HIDEOUSNESS.
This possibility is always there, no matter who the POTUS is. There are probably a finite number of assassination attempts, just on President George W. Bush, that the general public will never, ever really know about.
And not a damn thing different.
I would not be surprised..look at the lot of his terrorist relatives in Kenya...he is just slicker and the MSM just eats it up...thing is..wonder how they are going to like his policies once they begin to affect them too?
