New York activist Al Sharpton is of course the latest to join the Proposition 8 parade. In a speech over the weekend, he questioned why churches that backed the ban on gay marriage aren't focusing on bigger issues such as violence and poverty. From the Southern Voice website:
From the pulpit of Tabernacle Baptist Church on Sunday, Rev. Al Sharpton called out the Mormon Church and other conservative faiths for mobilizing to support Proposition 8 to ban gay marriage in California while refusing to be as involved in any other social concerns.
It amazes me when I looked at California and saw churches that had nothing to say about police brutality, nothing to say when a young black boy was shot while he was wearing police handcuffs, nothing to say when they overturned affirmative action, nothing to say when people were being delegated into poverty, yet they were organizing and mobilizing to stop consenting adults from choosing their life partners, Sharpton told a packed audience on Jan. 11.
There is something immoral and

You should talk Al! The "real" churches are focused much much more on relieving poverty, comforting those in need, and helping and loving people...its the "progressive" churches that are more focused on influencing government policy.
Sharpton fails to see the difference between incidents and policy.
A sin is that which injures a person, a community, or a relationship with God.
An abomination is a sin that gravely injures a person, a community, or a relationship with God.
Homosexuality is not accidentally or arbitrarily an abomination. “Abomination” is not calling “bad names” or engaging in “outrageous labeling.”
It’s an effort to accurately describe an act with terrible, deadly consequences.
he is not a real rev! he is a liar and a cheat. a wolf in sheeps clothing.
God forbid that Churches should actually preach morality.
Uh oh...
Al Sharpton - leader of his race
Al Sharpton - leader of disgrace
I thought J.J. was the HNIC. Aren't we about to go post racial on January 20, 2009?
Tawana has since become a Muslim and lives in DC, if it’s of any interest.
But getting back to Fat Al, I just don’t see that anybody in his right mind could permit that guy within twenty miles of government. He’s an evil racist, he knew that Brawley was lying, but he had to carry out that horrible show anyway, one that resulted in the suicide of a good man, the destruction of many lives and careers, and cost the State of New York incredible amounts of money. Then of course, there was the Freddy’s fire, an anti-Semitic act that ended up costing the lives of several hard-working Dominican teenagers and young people, not to mention Al’s anti-Semitic and anti-Asian rabble rousing in Brooklyn.
It is disgusting. But I bet with our new master, we’re going to see Fat Al move right on up into some important official government position.
You’ll notice he isn’t speaking out against adultery.
LOL!
I’m waiting for the first lawsuits that challenge Affirmative Action.
With Zero in the ‘House it has to fall.
This and that other “Reverand” are in for a shock when they face the real God of the Universe (I’ve never been able to figure out just who they are “reverands” for...
“nothing to say when a young black boy was shot while he was wearing police handcuffs”
What does Al have to say about black on black killings?
“nothing to say when they overturned affirmative action”
Affirmative action is discriminatory to whites.
“nothing to say when people were being delegated into poverty”
Nobody is delegated to poverty. Most people are born into it and have many opportunities to get out of it if they make the right decisions and take responsibility for their own actions instead of crying victim.
As for the gay issue, gay lifestyle is a social woe because it is a HUGE transmitter of disease.
gay marriage IS a social woe, you moron!
...the moron being Sharpton, not you, presidio9. :o)
Or at least a night in the Lincoln bedroom, eh?
We all know who the moron is when Al Sharpton is part of the conversation.
