Pelosi Erases Gingrich's Long-Standing Fairness Rules
Human Events ^ | 5 January 2009 | Connie Hair

Posted on 01/05/2009 7:54:23 AM PST by Clinton's a liar

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. Pelosi’s proposals are so draconian, and will so polarize the Capitol, that any thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible before he even takes office.

Pelosi’s rule changes -- which may be voted on today -- will reverse the fairness rules that were written around Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America.”

In reaction, the House Republican leadership is sending a letter today to Pelosi to object to changes to House Rules this week that would bar Republicans from offering alternative bills, amendments to Democrat bills or even the guarantee of open debate accessible by motions to recommit for any piece of legislation during the entire 111th Congress. These procedural abuses, as outlined in the below letter obtained by HUMAN EVENTS, would also include the repeal of six-year limit for committee chairmen and other House Rules reform measures enacted in 1995 as part of the Contract with America.

Thank God!

When I read the posts selected from DU on the DU Funnies thread by P.J. Comix, I get more of a sensation of needing to take a long hot shower than I get even after cleaning the kitty litter box.

No taxation without representation.

I can't wait to use my new tar pot. I'd elaborate but I've got to go pluck a few chickens and split some rails.

That’s because the Litter Box is cleaner, healthier, more sanitary, and it is genuine.

The “folks” at DU are the turds you clean OUT of the litter box as the filth that it is.

Here's my problem with your thinking - our children and grandchildren deserve a chance.

We're actually on the same page on that. I believe that the plummet to the bottom will be the worst part of this ride. I'd rather take it myself than put my children through it. The longer we hold it off, the more they'll have to go through. Plus, they'll learn more from the hard work of rebuilding than I could ever teach them.

You know, back in August of 2008, the republicans stayed in chambers...in protest.

Now, if these rule changes pass...I would back them all leaving Washington D.C. and returning with their constituencies with torches & pitchforks.

If they insist on staying, they should draft sensible counter-legislation, publicize it and make the dhims vote it down.

The proposed rule changes would not allow them to do this. This is why an appropriately mounted protest is needed.

I suppose if it is bad legislation (and given Pelosi’s ideology, it probably will be) and the GOP is barred from debating or amending it, they either vote “no” or just sit on their hands and vote “present”

The public must absolutely be made aware of the arrogant shutout of the minority party, the FAILURE at the very outset of Obama’s regime to work in a bipartisan spirit, and the the democrats MUST OWN all the consequences of what they do or do not do.

Bailout backlash is starting to build and this is gonna be a killer, when folks see the corrupt incompetent glitterati, special interests, and labor unions partying and squandering their tax money.

I think Pelosi will be popping her stitches for HER party to take all the responsibility, by about the third or 4th bailout bill and all the emails and switchboards jammed with angry constituents demanding a vote of “no” - and no “bipartisan” support to claim or blame.

We may need soap making, by small groups of individuals, to correct the wrongs to come.

IS this guy with the face-paint from Texas ? :-).....

IF they do this, and take away our talk radio they have truly taken away our voices and representation. If they then go after our means of self defense, then we could follow Glenn Beck's advice of being the informer of all the leftist loons and try to talk them away from this lerch towards a new beast akin to Fascism. The other alternatives are to much to fathom....

So when is Boehner going to call a press conference? (crickets). If this were Repubs. doing this you'd bet the dems would be shouting about it from the top of the steps. The dems. would have emails out to all of the constituency like yesterday and Repubs. are doing what...?

And here all this time I thought it was the "people's house", where every vote counted, and we all got fair representation even if we weren't the majority.

That was a worthy system, even though it turned out to be a huge mistake. The former GOP leadership had integrity to it; the Democrat leadership has none. Live and learn, and do what you can!

We always knew the ahole leftists would do this once they regained power. Bi-partisanship is only a good word if/when they are NOT in power. Otherwise, it’s an irrelevant concept and a dirty word.

I really hate leftists!

Yeah, but in the meantime we, as a nation, have got to figure out a way to survive the next four years. And I’m starting to doubt that it will even be possible.

Yeah, and while we are “solidly blaming DemocRats”, their propaganda arm, the mainscream media, will continue to cover for them and ONLY report anything flattering to the Marxist agenda. SSDD.
