Palin launches pit bull-with-lipstick salvos
Washington Times ^ | Saturday, January 03, 2009 | Jennifer Harper

Alaska has a new form of wildlife: Gov. Sarah Palin, who has turned into a mama tiger, or a grandmama tiger anyway, in defense of her young.

Mrs. Palin is engaging in an unusually personal attempt to protect her 18-year-old daughter Bristol from the inaccuracies of the press.

In three different accounts, journalists have described Miss Palin and/or her fiance Levi Johnston as "high-school dropouts."

I am sorry but Sarah would have been better off leaving this alone.

Defiantly. Don't respond to this kind of unfair criticism. Just let it be, and try to foster a "new tone".

I mean, it's worked so well for Bush these last eight years, how could anyone think otherwise?

Take out the 7 million and she still made six figures a year.

I'm sure they earn it, unlike Kennedys, etc.

I am not going to argue over this until 2012.

At this stage of the process that is a smart position to take, imo. It is many moons until the group begins to form for the 2012 run and thus I suspect several different wannabes will emerge all hoping to be the savior of the GOP. My guess is the current crop may not even be in the running when the final tally is taken.

How many stuggling families have 7 million dollar advance for a book she will write in a few years?

You're really reaching here.

Her life did not begin in 2008.

Their life PRIOR to the campaign is what the poster was referring to. Look it up. They were a typical family of modest means.

But I willing to bet you knew that.

If she's got a book deal now, good for her.

BTW, criticizing people based on wealth won't get you many supporters around here.

A few years ago she looked up her birth mother and got the whole story. The woman was horrified because she realized that if that happened today, she simply would have been aborted and everyone - even the so-called pro-life crowd -would have approved.

Not me. I have twins and I had a sonogram at every doctor's visit. During the second sonogram, between 7-8 weeks gestation, we watched one twin turn around and push the other one away because he was poking around and ran into the first one. If I had that on tape, it would be worth a million dollars. The pro life movement should pay special attention to twin pregnancies, and get some good footage of the "womb mates" (as my grandmother called them) playng and interacting at early ages. Once they get cramped in there they don't interact nearly as much.

I know what I saw in my own womb, and they were intelligent and interactive at a very young age. Of course the media would call me mean for wanting to "force women to bear the children of rapists", as if killing babies isn't being mean to them.

His children are all married with children and not one had a child out of wedlock. I give him credit for that.

I call him "Lucky" for that.

Oh goody! Mitt has hidden the human frailties of his family better than the other candidates!

However, the slick car-salesman, carny-barking RINO has not hidden his mushy, anti-conservative record nearly as successfully.

Your “family values” schtick is awfully naive. Your Republican party has had a toe-tapping Senator, a congressional page-wooing congressman and a President spending like a drunken Irish sailor (I can say that as a Navy Vet of Scotch-Irish heritage). It’s time for CONSERVATIVES to wake up and smell the coffee. Time to live right, take care of your own house, and lead by example. This “family values” line of argument is stupid and makes it easy to point at the neighbors while our house burns. Mitt and his ilk are the problem, not the solution.

You betcha she does. When you invite crazy eyes Greta to you kitchen for and interview and then conduct the interview while wearing a some odd thousand dollar suit while cooking moose patties (or some such thing) you lose some credibility in my eyes when it comes to asking for privacy.

The problem is not the pregnancy but that Sarah says she is for absenance...I am too but she did not teach that to her children. Why? Does she speak these words to the public but not her family?

You have a camera in their hose or something? You heard every word she said to her kids the last 20 years?

Or are you basing this on the infallible logic that young people ALWAYS follow their parents instructions, despite what their emotions and hormones are urging them to do?

Your arguments are getting weaker by the minute.

What about the prospect of future harm to these children? I realize that a suit would be hard to win, but these kids didn’t ask to be put in the public spotlight. And what is the purpose of the articles other than to denigrate these kids for the situation they are in.

“They'll dog her family, and her dog too. Really, since when did children matter the to MSM?”

Just as the Arab terrorists (Hamas/Hezbollah, etc) don't care if their rockets hit innocent civilians, the MSM terrorists couldn't care less who they hurt in their constant quest to destroy conservatives.

In the US and Europe, the media is a much terrorist faction as any armed group! Count on it!!!!!

I like Romney. He can successfully stand on his record without your attempt to beat up on Palin via her children.

I have the strongest family values you will ever meet, and have raised my kids that way. I have a child that has rebelled and done all the things I have raised my children to eschew. He is an adult and makes his own choices, and there is nothing I can do about it. I do not see his behavior as a reflection on me, or the way he was raised.

Everyone who thinks they can control the behaviour of a child is in for a big dose of humility at some point in their life. All we can do is react to their behaviours in a manner consistent with our values and beliefs, something that Sarah has done admirably. I can only hope I would do as well in her situation.

I am so sick to death of people saying that Sarah Palin and her family lack values because her daughter became pregnant. Please anyone who says this, tell us how perfect your children are.

I am a parent of 2 teenagers, 18 and 17. As far as I am concerned they are great kids but, that doesn’t mean they have never tested their boundaries and our value system. It’s called growing up. Thinking they know the answers, thinking they have it figured out. If your kid doesn’t occasionally test then you don’t have kids, you have robots, or you just don’t know what is going on. Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes, that is when your values really come into play.

She is 18, she and Levi thought they had it all figured out. They very well could have been using protection and it failed. Are they taking responsibility? Yes. Are they continuing their education? Yes. They are actually handling the situation the old fashioned way.

I don’t know about you but in our family, personal responsibility is a biggie as far as our value system goes. They are exhibiting that right now.

A true conservative handles their business, they take responsibility for whatever comes their way.

He certainly told the truth about his family that is for sure. No divorces, illegitimate babies, nothing at all as a matter of fact except for normal long wholesome 1950’s type family. . . . now Sarah whose family values are????? Unexplainable for a true conservative.

You know, Mormons get pregnant and drop out of school too. Some get divorced. Some of them even smoke dope. I'm from Arizona, have Mormons in the family, work with Mormons every day, know lots of other Mormons and really like them, but they don't have any kind of family-values magic wand any more than the rest of us. I've seen a Bishop's daughter who was smoking pot and pregnant at age 15.

Mitt's lucky his marriage and children are in good shape, but truth be told, his personal values have remarkably little to do with how his kids turned out, and his religion even less. From what I can tell, Sarah Palin is at least as hands-on with her family, and hews to values at least as traditional and religiously based, as Mitt or any other of the candidates this year. She's been moderately unlucky with one daughter, but there for the grace of God goes any of the rest of us including St. Mitt.
