One Democratic operative suggests keeping track of Barack Obamas cabinet selections with a March Madness-type tournament chart. While no official announcements have been made, a controlled series of leaks have given a good sense of who's still in contention, and which big names have been bounced from the bracket.
The new administration still has some major posts to fill, including heads for the departments of Defense, Housing and Urban
Development, Transportation, Labor, and Energy, not to mention the Environmental Protection Agency. But a number of the biggest prizes seem to have already been won, and a handful of serious contenders already been passed over in the speed-dating game that is the Obama transition.
Here's a look at five major players and the jobs they have apparently not been given:
John Kerry, StateThe Massachusetts Senator and former Democratic presidential nominee was a passionate, articulate and early supporter of Obama, a fixture on both conference calls and the Sunday talk show circuit. Kerrys people say he never had any expectations of being named Secretary of State but other Democrats say he made no secret of his Foggy Bottom aspirations. Hes crushed, said one Senate aide. Kerry would have been a fine pick, sources say, but Obama apparently had his eye on Hillary Clinton since the early fall. He does get an impressive consolation prize: the chairmanship of the Foreign Relations Committee vacated by Joe Biden.

Kerryphew . Gog bless me ;-)
> former French colonies. Madagascar, for example
Doesn’t Madagascar speak Portuguese?
I was thinking more of Sierra Leone or Cote Azur.
I do not buy it.
Kerry would not give up his Senator seat for anything less than the White House.
He’d have no place else to go.
Kerry is a born POS and it is only because of his lying BS to a willing audience that he has gotten as far as he has.
My respect for Obama has gone up since his election. By definition he was going to fill his cabinet and staff with liberal Democrats, but he could have made much worse choices. Although a lot of bad things will undoubtedly happen in the next four years, they may turn out not to be as bad as I originally feared.
Please keep surprising me, President-elect Obama.
Now we will all be sorry.

SECRETARY IN SHARGE OF MILITARY RECORDS AND BIRTH CERTIFICATES.
What weirdo map is Kerry standing in front of? It looks like everyplace is named after his website.
Swift boated by his own party?
Kerry does not realize just how thankful he should be for not being picked.
The ObamUtopia will end very badly indeed.Again, as in Vietnam,Kerry will have luckily dodged the bullet.Luck has delivered carry to safety where his intelligence would not.
Kerry is well off being as far away from the Omafuscation of America as possible. He just won't know it for a while.
The Cote d'Azur is part of the Mediterranean coast of France--not an independent country. Cote d'Ivoire is a francophone African nation (known in English as Ivory Coast).
Kerry is “crushed”.
That should earn him another Purple Heart.
It’s only fair.
You may be more correct about this than you know...
...in 1968, when (he said) Nixon was the President. It was seared--SEARED--into his memory. /s
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
(What makes this all so easy; is their shared 'world vision' and their craving of power.)
....gone up since his election...etc.etc
(can’t quite yet bring myself to put ob and ‘respect’ in same sentence)

Certainly that choice of Emanuel for COS was ‘brilliant’.
It keeps EVERYONE guessing.
The anti Israelis have to be scratching their heads and the pro Israelis have to wonder ‘what is up’?
It also kind of ‘shoots down’ the Muslim tag on OB but then again the old “keep your ‘enemies’ closer” is possibly enacted.
Brilliant, the MADNESS continues to reign....
This would be downright hilarious if it weren’t so serious.
