In the early months of Bill Clintons first term as president, his White House staff treated governing like a combination dormitory bull session and frat party. It was pretty much amateur hour, and the first thing to go was discipline. But judging from the kind of people that President-elect Obama is selecting to serve as his new palace guard at the White House, his administration is going to look and feel very differentvery grown upfrom Day One. Its not just that Obamas picked a pit bull (one without lipstick) as his chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel. He has also chosen Gregory Craig, a tough and unrelenting legal janissary and as savvy a Washington player as you can findas his White House counsel. And if he does as expected and names Jim Steinberg as his national security advisor (like the other two, Steinberg is an ex-Clintonite), the new president will be surrounded by disciplinarians. A master of detail as well as grand strategy, Steinberg was notable for his passionate defense of administration policies when he served as deputy national security advisor in the second Clinton administration.
Theres an emerging toughnessdare I say ruthlessnesshere that feels far more Kennedy-esque than Clintonite. The discipline was evident in Obamas own smiling shutdown of 60 Minutes Steve Krofts efforts to get him to talk about his Cabinet choices over the weekend (Youre not going to get any more out of me, Steve). It is evident in the new ethics rules announced late last week by Transition leader John Podestathe strictest and most comprehensive ever.

... and a massive display of "do as I say and not as I do".
If Pubbies had any stones at all they would be lampooning every move this loon makes.
Kennedyesque? So they’ll be throwing people fully-dressed into pools?
Janissaries were Christian slaves. Interesting choice of words.
These are the same people that surrounded the Clintons so can someone tell me what is so different? The media is nuts with some of these stories. Guess they have short memories.
We can only hope that is the case and we do not have to experience the bumbling of the Clinton transition.
‘discipline’, ‘ruthlessness’ - and the title of the Presidential protection units will be “Leibstandarte Barack Obama”.

New secret service uniforms in COMMIE red.
ROTFLOL.
Obie doesn't have his filibuster proof yet, so he can't go really radical at this point. If the Georgia runoff and the Minnesota theft go as planned and he gets to 60, then watch the proposed Cabinet nominations come off the board for people much farther to the left.
And the business world is voting with its money.
“Change we can believe in”....
Very good!
Not grown-up, but elderly. Personally, I think he’s being forced to put these people in because it is clear that the Dems are freaked out and having buyer’s remorse. Everybody around him is radical, amd any appointments made by him would be likewise; so these appointments are obviously being made by others.
Perhaps the Dems think that he’ll be found ineligible after all and they’re shoring up their foundations with the Clinton establishment.
Bet you are correct!
One thing that helped save us through eight years of Prez Bill Clinton is that he lacked the work ethic to push his leftist agenda as hard as it might have been. And still look at all the damage he did!
If Obama and team really get to work on covering lots of ground for the Left....we’re in deep tar pits pal.
Someone has to be tough and make decisions; I can’t picture Mr. Present making any.
With 58, McCain and Graham “reaching across the isle and giving the dems all a ‘reach around’”, he has his 60.
Or Praetorian Guard.
