GOP applauds Hillary as potential secretary of state
Newsday ^

Posted on 11/16/2008 6:35:21 PM PST by mathwhizz

Hillary Clinton would be "a very good selection" as secretary of state, the Senate's second-ranking Republican, Jon Kyle of Arizona, said in an interview with Fox News Sunday morning. "It seems to me she's got the experience. She's got the temperament for it. I think she would be well received around the world," Kyl said.

Sen. Byron Dorgan (R, N.D.) told Fox he didn't think she would have trouble winning confirmation. "She's worked across the aisle, has good bipartisan relationships" and "would have instant credibility around the world," he added. The U.S. has "a lot of relationships to repair and a lot of work to do, so I think she'd be a fine choice."

Obama and Clinton have done nothing to tamp down speculation on the widely leaked news that she traveled to meet with him in Chicago Thursday and discussed the possibility of the State Department job. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is also reported to have met with Obama last week and others, including Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, are reportedly also being considered for the post.

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger told the World Economic Forum's India meeting he thought giving Clinton the job "would be an outstanding appointment," adding it would also show "great courage" on Obama's part.

In an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said such an appointment "could be a great move."

My gawd, people....thimk!

Hillary will never take this spot. Would you book a world cruise on the Titanic?

SOS is a lot of work, traveling, little sleep, being away from family and friends, with little reward or thanks. Especially when Obama will suck up all the kudos, if any.

Mrs. Rodham didn't raise a dummy. There's nothing in SOS for Hillary, really for hardly anyone else, either.....except for a loser like Richardson.

I think this is a red herring leaked by both parties to conceal the real promise to Hillary.....a Supreme Court nomination.

Not a bad job for one's retirement years.....and she can still cram her Alinsky, socialist agenda down the craws of the public at the same time.

(.....and she can still wear Old Crusty, albeit in black robe form).

When we as a party applaud Hillary Clinton, you know our days are numbered. This is embarrassing.

The party?
What about Free Republic?
Seems that many here went GA Ga for the PUMAs.

Hillary as Secretary of State? Sounds like a safe place to put her...as long as Obama, Biden, Pelosi, and Byrd all agree to never fly together nor to eat from the same dish.

Well, it gets her out of the Senate. That’s a good thing.

""She's worked across the aisle, has good bipartisan relationships""

You know, we could forget about building a fence on the mexican border, and just build one down the "aisle" in the Congress...and we'd probably be better orr.

If we could get all this "crossing the aisle" stopped, we might accomplish something, but as long as the RINO's in congress are lined up to kiss the lefts' asses, then we may as well have the democrats in there forever.

Insofar as hillary and the other leftist thugs, they only reach across far enough to get what they want, then they run to their media and tell them what assholes the Republicans are.

I'm sick of one-way bipartisanship.

"We have to fight to keep out conservative republican agenda but life is not black or white unless a person is living snug in their little suburb in flyover country."

Is there a point in here?

When the neighborhood becomes over-run by criminal invasion, one would move to a safe re-grouping area rather than exist amongst a banana republic, I would think.

Flyover country is safe haven for traditional values, so far.

Living in a Third World Country by choice is not MY idea of a pleasant time.

Here’s my take: Obama makes her Secretary thereby requiring her to give up her Senate seat. He later sacks her.

Viola! No more Clintons in Government ‘service’.

I think Obama would like her out of Senate. The Secretary of State does not usually make political speeches or raise money. He could somewhat neutralize her for 2012.

maybe more going on than we think. obama and biden are out of the senate. take hillary out. granted they will be replaced with democrats, but their influence in the senate will drop and the replacements may be easier to beat in the election. ya gotta be optomistic for 2010!

Not living in a banana republic neighborhood, here in the city unless you consider high rise condos starting at 1 million a unit on up and homes in 2 million on up range.
Large European population and mainly professionals.

San Diego also has the largest concentration of military in the U.S.
As far as the large gay population in my neighborhood, don’t like their life style but most are professionals some are military.

So is he playing games here; encouraging Obama to appoint Her Heinous, by repeating the DNC talking points about America being a big, fat bully?

If I was them, I would watch my back...nephew works with a bunch of Secret Service types in DC - he claims that according to them "The Clintons aren't killers, the Kennedy's were" - they must have never heard of Vince Foster, Ron Brown, and the forty or so other people associated with Bill and Hill who've met violent and untimely deaths in the not so distant past......

Reminds me of a bad National Lampoon movie or perhaps a Monty Python sitcom. I think we should start proposing titles for this disaster movie.
