GOP applauds Hillary as potential secretary of state
Newsday ^

Posted on 11/16/2008 6:35:21 PM PST by mathwhizz

Hillary Clinton would be "a very good selection" as secretary of state, the Senate's second-ranking Republican, Jon Kyle of Arizona, said in an interview with Fox News Sunday morning. "It seems to me she's got the experience. She's got the temperament for it. I think she would be well received around the world," Kyl said.

Sen. Byron Dorgan (R, N.D.) told Fox he didn't think she would have trouble winning confirmation. "She's worked across the aisle, has good bipartisan relationships" and "would have instant credibility around the world," he added. The U.S. has "a lot of relationships to repair and a lot of work to do, so I think she'd be a fine choice."

Obama and Clinton have done nothing to tamp down speculation on the widely leaked news that she traveled to meet with him in Chicago Thursday and discussed the possibility of the State Department job. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is also reported to have met with Obama last week and others, including Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, are reportedly also being considered for the post.

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger told the World Economic Forum's India meeting he thought giving Clinton the job "would be an outstanding appointment," adding it would also show "great courage" on Obama's part.

In an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said such an appointment "could be a great move."

Well, I feel a little better now knowing Dorgan is in fact a Democrat.

Was Kyle’s Party affiliation a typo too? /s

This is embarrassing.

No kidding. John Kyl? He has a great ACU rating and voting record as a conservative; he's the senator John McCain used to be, 25 years ago. And the Governator -- doesn't he know this would be a really good time to shut up about Hillary and the 'Rats?

I just don't know what these guys are smoking. If ever there was something you don't want to comment on, it's Obama's cabinet-appointment trial balloons, when he's floating around the names of prominent 'Rats and bat-winged consorts of Slick Willie Clinton.

Look at what MAddy Albright acheived! ZILCH!

Dems never seem to learn that function must tale precidence over ideology.

Yeah! Show those misogynist ARABS ! Appoint a woman to Sec, State! Tweek their noses while they reduce OPEC output.

AT THIS TIME, WE NEED A MALE SEC STATE!!!!

Bad Move if Hillery! ( Rice was also a bad move.)

Robert Bork was more than qualified to be on the USSC. That didn't stop the Left from destroying him.

Good call, and good advice. Now would be a real good time for Republicans to shut up and butt out.

Ask embarrassing questions later, during confirmation hearings. If Waxrat and Kennedyrat and the rest of the big, fat, nasty 'Rats will let the Pubbies ask any questions at all.

Yeah, this looks like posturing to me as well.

But I also thought John McCain was going to win.

I would like to see Obama pick conservative republicans for his cabinet but since he won’t we have to take who he picks and hope it is the lesser of two evils.

Those who live in states or areas that are republican or
basically homogeneous don’t understand how it is living in a Democrat state or in a County of over 3 million with 1 million being Mexican along with a huge Asian pop. Horn of Africa, over 30,000 Iraqis and other Middle Easterns and Europeans as I do here in San Diego.
Or watching yesterday as over 20,000 gys marched here.

We have to fight to keep out conservative republican agenda
but life is not black or white unless a person is living snug in their little suburb in flyover country.

I left the Republican party in 1991 after "read my lips, no new taxes" was broken.

Reading crap like this just re-inforces my belief that the real Conservatives left the Republican party long ago.

When we as a party applaud Hillary Clinton, you know our days are numbered. This is embarrassing.

How many times must I say this. This is the corrupt "Two-Party Cartel". The pubbie faction is to play stupid & allow their (both party) puppeteers to screw the people. Since they have eliminated any potential 3rd party they do as they please. So you have this arrangement that if say, if you don't like illegal immigration then go to the other corrupt faction with the same intentions & with the same backing. But keep going to the polls & voting for the "corrupt" of your choice & give them legitimacy.

I’m with you...look at the choices...evidently Obama doesn’t have an original idea in his head...what’s up with the change? He’s picking all the old Clintonistas...big deal...we all know that they were all about...in the long run, they wanted was a nice sweetheart deal, big money bonuses from Freddie and Fannie...

Yes sir. It will be fun to watch old Hillary fly around with Suha and make a mess of everything...

In the end, all the democrats care about is lining their pocketbooks with Taxpayer cash...

Obama’s presidency will be call the BACKDOWN presidency... he’ll find an excuse to back down on every global confrontation. You think he’s going to use force,...to him that would be a waste of money...to him giving US tax dollars to rat holes in Africa is what’s important...and reparations to people who drive Mercedes...

I too welcome Hillary as Secretary of State...what’s wrong with that...Barney Frank, who ran a male prostitution ring out of his DC apartment is still telling us how to run the financial systems in this country, along with Chucky Boy Schumer (the biggest rat bastid that ever lived)and Chris Dodd...what difference does it make anymore...

My friends, the democratic party of these here United States has ripped off 3 trillion dollars...now they want the taxpayer to foot the bill and pay off the bad democrat mandates... reward bad business deals that they legislated...then pat themselves on the back as saviors...you know what’s next? They are gonna steal more...that’s what the new Obama administration is all about...Chicago politics...

And you’re worried about Hillary?

Here's the problem: As Sec of State, Hillary may have to call Barry at 3 in the morning, and she has already said he can't handle that on "day one".

During the hearings (if it gets that far) I hope a Rep has the stones to quote back to Hillary was she said about Barry. If a Sec of State calls the White House at 3am, the call tends to be important.

She may get the chance to duck snipper fire once again, though.

LOL! Hey, Hillary had thousands of Balkans bombed, because their were rapists among them. I say put Hillary in as Secretary of State and bomb Iran! Then Obama can draft all of the traitors' snotty kids to be bullet catchers. As for freight fuel going up, it's about time we were less dependent on our enemies.
