Where Tuesday's Tide Was All Republican (Oklahoma Turns Redder Alert)
New York Times ^ | 11/7/2008 | James McKinley, Jr

Among Oklahomans, Mr. Cook and Mr. White are hardly alone. Though the state’s Democrats still outnumber its Republicans, you would never know it by looking at the election results. Oklahoma voters went for Senator John McCain by almost two to one, bucking the tide that swept Mr. Obama to the presidency. Not a single one of the state’s 77 counties backed Mr. Obama, despite his endorsement by the popular Democratic governor, Brad Henry. ...

Indeed, the state has a political landscape closely resembling that of the old solidly Democratic South, especially in its southeastern corner, known as Little Dixie, where many Southerners settled after the Civil War. When conservatives of the Old South began abandoning the party decades ago, Oklahoma’s Democrats lagged behind the historical trend. Further, the state has relatively small black and Hispanic populations, and so the Democrats did not absorb as many new voters from those groups as in the states of the old Confederacy.

These days Oklahoma Democrats dread running for local office in presidential election years, for fear of being associated with liberal nominees at the top of the ticket.

“Being liberal in Oklahoma, with the exception of a few legislative districts, will not get you elected,” said State Representative Joe Dorman, a conservative Democrat.

Thanks for your input. I’m really anxious to check it out. Now where are the areas in OK where there are ranches? And where is the oil drilling? Both those areas interest me also. :) Thanks, Oklahoma!

Also, is your area of OK known for lots of tornadoes? Someone said OK is in “tornado alley”.

Cattle are all over the state. The eastern fringe counties bordering Arkansas have large chicken operations and western counties the big hog farms.

We have a few natural gas wells in Southeastern Oklahoma but they don’t amount to much, especially as compared to the rest of the state.

The fastest growing areas of the state are in central Oklahoma around Norman, Moore, Edmond, and OKC, and in northeastern Oklahoma from Tulsa east to the Fayetteville, Benton, Springdale areas of Arkansas.

Thank you so much. What do you think of the panhandle? It’s in the northwest, right?

well done to OK
I still say my state Florida went red
I do not believe for one minute that it turned blue, yes it voted for obama but the amount of cases of fraud, multiple voters, illegals .
over a 100,000 voters from GA actually voted in OH and FL , many snow birds form NY,NJ,MA,RI,CT,ME,VT, voted down here because they used their vacation address

all of our ballot questions went conservative, homo marriage, no tax increase, illegals not having property but Dem expect me that those same voters voted in a liberal

no way

MO, NH, FL, NC, VA needs your help with voting

all voters who live in New England and the west coast need to move to MO,FL,VA,NC,AZ,MN,NV

screw those liberals states let them lose your tax money and watch their electoral count go down

for instance if every republican moved out of MA then MA would lose tax money and electoral count but say they all moved to VA, the state of VA would move red, increase it’;s electoral count and use your tax money which would not go to a liberal agenda

liberals have been doing this for years and use websites like city data to do this

yep every conservative in a blue state moves out

hundreds of thousands move out of there and move to swing states like CO,NM,NV,FL,MO,VA,NC

increase the EV do not give tax money to Dems AND keep those states red

I moved my wife out of MA, I know of three other couples like us who moved out of there now only if every conservative moved out of ME,VT,MA,NY,NJ,RI,CT,OR,WA,PA,MD,DE,

The Dem would never get in power again if we kept all those states red

I used to pride myself on double and triple checking my posts, but of late, I’ve had a few typos and I apologize.

:)

Aren’t you fortunate to live there. Muskogee of the song is a lot like the small town in Kentucky that I live in! We darn sure don’t have any hippies here!!!!

We just spent the weekend in Tulsa, Ok for a huge gun show. Standing in line to get in, between Okies was a breath of fresh air. They are not just O.K. but super people. Signs inside, Obama specials...etc. it was quite a weekend. People buying up ammo and guns like crazy.

More good news I just discovered. An 83 year old rat state senator in North Dakota first elected in 1976, who’s district includes my grandparents home town, lost 60-40. Lost to a guy my age, born after the rat was first elected.

Unlike him I don’t remember Reagan. A Poppy Bush VS. Dukakis debate is my first political memory.

And more bad news.

Texas house is now just a 1 seat GOP edge (could be a tie pending recount), Republicans have lost seats every election since taking control, Speaker Tom Craddick they say is to blame.

And the Alaska senate already controlled by a formal Rat-RINO coalition is now tied 10-10. And the pssed off state rats would like to cause any problem they can for Palin.

With the illegals taking over the great state of Texas, this native son may be crossing that Red River soon. I always liked Oklahoma anyway. I bet Ardmore would be nice. I love the Turner Falls area, but Davis is a little small.

But Rick Perry has promised to protect the border with webcams!!!!!

This kid, if he plays his cards right, could end up a future statewide or federal official. Precisely the kinds of individuals we need to be grooming for office. I pondered running at his age for the State House, but health concerns and gerrymandering precluded that. On fairer ground, I could’ve taken the lady out. I’ve had convos with her, and to say she’s an embarrassing, ineffective idiot is an insult to embarrassing, ineffective idiots.

There’s a LOT of Republican infighting in the TX House, and I also believe Gov. Perry has a role to play as well with the shrinkage. I’ve never been able to get a solid feel for Craddick, whether he is a RINO squish or playing hardball with the RINOs (doing the latter tends to get you attacked more). My grave concern is that if the TX GOP loses the House (they won’t lose the Senate, since it is a fairly stable, solid bloc), the Dems will be able to insist upon more favorable lines for Congressional seats, and we can’t have that. The Dems hold too many seats in the state as it is.

If the AK RINO/Rodent coalition tries to embarrass Gov. Palin, they’ll only end up harming themselves.

But Rick Perry has promised to protect the border with webcams!!!!!

Wasn't it going to be that you could sit at home and "shoot" an illegal as he crossed the border, with a shooter on site doing the actual firing? Or, am I mixing up two completely different stories?
