Among Oklahomans, Mr. Cook and Mr. White are hardly alone. Though the states Democrats still outnumber its Republicans, you would never know it by looking at the election results. Oklahoma voters went for Senator John McCain by almost two to one, bucking the tide that swept Mr. Obama to the presidency. Not a single one of the states 77 counties backed Mr. Obama, despite his endorsement by the popular Democratic governor, Brad Henry. ...
Indeed, the state has a political landscape closely resembling that of the old solidly Democratic South, especially in its southeastern corner, known as Little Dixie, where many Southerners settled after the Civil War. When conservatives of the Old South began abandoning the party decades ago, Oklahomas Democrats lagged behind the historical trend. Further, the state has relatively small black and Hispanic populations, and so the Democrats did not absorb as many new voters from those groups as in the states of the old Confederacy.
These days Oklahoma Democrats dread running for local office in presidential election years, for fear of being associated with liberal nominees at the top of the ticket.
Being liberal in Oklahoma, with the exception of a few legislative districts, will not get you elected, said State Representative Joe Dorman, a conservative Democrat.

Actually McCain won 89 out of 95 counties in Tennessee losing only Shelby (Memphis), Haywood, Hardeman, Houston,Davidson(Nashville) and Jackson counties.
Even in true blue liberal Oregon, things are looking more red. In the State House and Senate, 7 out of 8 seats up for grabs went Republican. At the same time, moderate Republican Senator Smith lost because he campaigned primarily to the left.... Stand-up for “Conservatism,” you will win!
If you look at a national map of voting by counties, OK is the eye of a hurricane of conservative counties.
Truly, Oklahoma is OK.
> In Tennessee, McCain took 79 of 87 counties - the most since Nixon in 72. <
Most of the TN counties that went for Big 0 were those with way-above-average black percentages of their populations. Houston and Jackson seem to be only the exceptions. Wonder what’s going on in those two places?
(Maybe they are union strongholds?)
> The south never claims us. <
Well, I’m a Southerner. A whole bunch of my kin moved to OK after the War BTS, and they and their neighbors still sound “Southern” when they talk.
Therefore, I’m perfectly willing to claim OK as a part of the South!
(Moreover, the Choctaws, Creek, Chickasaws, Seminoles and Cherokees were the ORIGINAL Southerners. In fact, their blood still runs in the veins of a very large proportion of Mississippians, Alabamans, Louisians, etc. — both black and white.)
Me too! I was one of the two-to-one ppl that voted for McCain.
It’s actually, “I’m proud to be an Okie from MuskoGee” I know cuz I live here ;)
(if it was just a typo, forgive me)
> Did you know Gretas godfather was Sen. Joseph McCarthy ?
<
So maybe that’s why she became a Scientologist?
Southeast OK has great scenery as well, not to mention the fishing :)
Republicans used to be blue but the red-commie newsrooms didn’t like their colors to be known — so they switched.
Hit ‘print screen’ and paste the map in MS paint. You can recolor the counties to your liking.
You betcha. I’m serious considering moving to OK ASAP. Another lib article about how OK is going red here: http://www.mlive.com/newsflash/politics/index.ssf?/base/politics-2/122617076871610.xml&storylist=politics&thispage=2
This article lists the counties that were the reddest in OK — five Little Dixie counties McCurtain, Choctaw, Latimer, Pushmataha and LeFlore.
Do you know much about them? I am a secretary, single, woman and would need to get a job there. Any advice from any Okies for me ?? Thank you in advance.
Say prayer for Merle Haggard. He’s currently laid up, here in Bakersfield, Ca. following surgery to remove a growth from a lung.
A true country music legend!
No...
Murdoch has issued an edict that Fox, WSJ, The NY Post, etc., are not to speak evil of dear leader. We are in deeper trouble than I thought. I hope all the people who stayed home Tuesday are pleased.
Much of this good news from OK may be attributed to the anti-immigration law there which discourages the dispossessed from coming into the state, right?
OK and TN are two great states!! I might have to move to one of those places.
Soros was here with big bucks to take out Inhofe — he provided money and staffers to Andrew Rice. Only place ACORN is left is in Tulsa. We already got them out of this part of the state. Soros is wasting money in OK because even our Dems are conservative. As soon as some Dems found out that Soros was behind Rice, they dropped their support.
Time to start new media publications and a news channel.
That’s where I am, in the Choctaw Nation.
Keep in mind this is the poorest section of the state and wages are lower. Living costs like taxes and housing are considerably lower. I’m guessing groceries, utilities and fuel are about the same as the rest of the state.
We have the best climate and topography in Oklahoma.
