Vanity: Fox News Says Palin Did Not Know Africa Was Continent, Not Country
Fox News | 11/05/08 | vanity

Carl Cameron just said McCain campaign shocked to discover Sarah Palin did not realize Africa was a continent, believing instead that it was a country. She did not know the countries in NAFTA. She refused offered preparation for the Couric interview and threw temper tantrums over adverse press.

Wow. Dumping on Sarah in a big way. Shep asked how on Earth the McCain camp could have ended up picking such a dope (not exact words, but sense of what he said).

They did point out she seemed to help the polling numbers.

I knew this was going to be the template, but I was surprised at the level of nastiness on Fox News. Looks like elements of the McCain campaign is determined to make her the scapegoat for the loss. (Couldn't have been anything about the man at the top of the ticket.)

I would take issue with your assessment of Palin’s “foreign policy” experience. As Governor of Alaska and as CiC of the Alaska National Guard, she “commands” the only National Guard unit on permanent active duty. I believe it is the 83rd Missle Defense Squadron. They are the prime unit in case of a missle attack from Russia. It is my understanding that she is regularly briefed on matters that concern the unit and as such, does receive some police briefs. Since it is always advisable (unless you’re a Democrat) not to say much about possible classified information, this was her way of intimating she was “aware, but not telling.”

Palin/McCain would have won. Palin’s instincts were right about Rev. Wright being fair game.

Anonymous sources and you think perhaps it is true?
Why not question where the scurrilous gossip is coming from before you so willingly believe it?

Amazing... this is exactly what they are counting on.

This is familiar. Someone thought Africa was a country on some show recently. I know it was a true or false question on “Are you smarter than a Fifth Grader”.

1st Grade World Geography: True or False? Africa is a country south of Europe.

I voted for Governor Palin. The old white-haired guy just happened to be her running mate.

Furthermore, in future, EVERY TRUE CONSERVATIVE WHO EVER RUNS FOR OFFICE IN THIS COUNTRY NEEDS TO VIEW THE MEDIA AS THE PRIMARY ENEMY AND ACT ACCORDINGLY. DO NOT SIT FOR THEIR INTERVIEWS, DO NOT LET THEM DEFINE YOU, DO NOT EVER LET DOWN YOUR GUARD.

And so the blame game begins.

I don’t buy for one, single second that Sarah Palin thought Africa was an individual country. Bullspit.

Not knowing all the members in NAFTA? Doubtful.

Temper tantrums at bad press? Would they be called “tantrums” if it was a male politician losing his temper at bad press?

Sarah had her shortcomings this campaign, but they were born out of inexperience, not a lack of intelligence or ability. She grew by leaps and bounds over the course of the campaign, and can and should be a force to be reckoned with in 2012.

IMHO, what’s going on here is a bunch of professional campaign types trying to save their own reputations. No one wants to be remembered as the captain (or 1st officer, or Chief Purser) of the Titanic.

O’Reilly said it. But it’s typical of that entire tabloid network. All sensationalism, all of the time.

I like Sarah, but was not impressed with her saying living adjacent to Russia was somehow foreign policy experience.

I'll admit she did not answer that artfully, but remember, Couric and CBS culled several hours of interview down to minutes....her worst minutes.

As I have heard her explain other places, it wasn't a question of "being close" to Russia, but being commander in chief of the Alaska NG, a unit unique in that it's responsible for our new missile defense. That's a big deal, and it's Russia who has the missiles that would be shot down over Alaska.

Anyway, name another state in the USA which has two foreign nations as neighbors, and not other American states adjoining it. Due to geography, an Alaskan governor is obviously going to be more involved in "foreign affairs" than any other governor. Fishery treaties, navigation rights, boundaries of oil drilling fields...this all winds up on an Alaskan governor's desk. The same cannot be said about the governor of any other US state.

Using unidentified sources to push dubious and damaging claims like this in a national newscast then chatting back and forth about it did seem nasty and tabloid-ish to me. And I don’t think Sarah Palin got to be governor of Alaska without knowing Africa was a continent, not a country.

They say, "McCain campaign," collectively. That is kind of weird.

But, what if it's true?

Glenn Beck played a voice mail he received from Sarah just a few weeks ago. She wanted to come on the show and talk to him and the american people. left him Todd’s cell phone number and apologized that the McCain handlers had not called to set up an interview.

She made excuses that they must have been too busy.

Sounds to me like she had been set up by these (ROMNEY?) staffers. McCains crew were probably sabotaging him (McCain) too. At first I didn’t believe that the Romney guys were starting all of these rumors but now, it kind of makes sense.

Sarah Palin did not realize Africa was a continent, believing instead that it was a country.

We're supposed to believe this why?

Frankly speaking — Palin had more RIGHT than any of the other candidates.... Her apron strings were simply not strong enough to drag that half dead RINO corpse across the finish line.

Also - it wouldn’t bother me a bit to have a candidate who knew little or nothing of Africa........but put AMERICA foremost in her priorities...

Conservatives we have to ban together against McCain, rino's and the GOP/RNC and kick their moderate asses to the curb. They are nothing less than liberal coddling, prix who LOST an election because of their inane stupidity by cockering up to socialist and liberals thinking they can win favor!

These people are just as much our enemies as the left! They haven't a clue how to win or govern!
