Vanity: Fox News Says Palin Did Not Know Africa Was Continent, Not Country
Fox News | 11/05/08 | vanity

Carl Cameron just said McCain campaign shocked to discover Sarah Palin did not realize Africa was a continent, believing instead that it was a country. She did not know the countries in NAFTA. She refused offered preparation for the Couric interview and threw temper tantrums over adverse press.

Wow. Dumping on Sarah in a big way. Shep asked how on Earth the McCain camp could have ended up picking such a dope (not exact words, but sense of what he said).

They did point out she seemed to help the polling numbers.

I knew this was going to be the template, but I was surprised at the level of nastiness on Fox News. Looks like elements of the McCain campaign is determined to make her the scapegoat for the loss. (Couldn't have been anything about the man at the top of the ticket.)

If it were ethical reporting, wouldn’t he have gone to Palin for reaction/confirmation before running with such an ‘unnamed sources’ story?

was not impressed with her saying living adjacent to Russia was somehow foreign policy experience.

But Obama's growing up for a few years in Indonesia is?

It’s a pretty standard politician’s response technique to avoid answering in specifics to a hostile reporter who is looking to play gotcha with whatever her reply. Sure, may have been better to list off the standards, but it clearly wasn’t because she couldn’t come up with a single publication to name. (And naming one or two wouldn’t have served.)

Another conservative Kerriganed.

what do you think that means? Or don't you understand the point I was attempting to make? The "Ace of Spades" blog used the term kneecapped.

Crawl back into your hole. Every new sign-up isn't some sort of conspirator or I guess you were just virgin-birthed onto the forum?

So, how much is Jindal paying you to come on here and trash Palin on his behalf? And why have you just decided to come out of the woodwork immediately after the election after not posting a single comment since January? Inquiring minds wanna know...

Palin has something that all of these politicians, including Jindal who I like, don't understand -- the ability to connect with ordinary people that they can only dream of, like I've never seen in American politics.

The long knives are out for Sarah and they come from all directions. If the people that were drawn to her by the millions abandon her now, she's finished. That's why the attacks come.

Absolutely 110% correct.

It was the late-added presence of SARAH which energized an otherwise moribund and apathetic conservative voting base.

It was SARAH who drew record-shattering crowds, everywhere she went on behalf of a sour and ungrateful McCain campaign.

Friendly little word of warning to any/all RINOs out there reading this, and thinking about standing in the way between this woman and the conservative base that adores her, anytime during the next four years:

You're expendable to us. SHE isn't.

I know exactly what it means jerk. You are the one with the reading comprehension problem. Let me make it clear and concise so your lips don't get tired reading it. Sarah Palin's career is not finished nor is she "damaged goods" nor did she need to stay in Alaska for another 8 years before getting on the national stage.

You joined FR on August 31 this year just to spew this negative nonsense. I doubt we will hear much from you until the next election cycle. Go back to DU where they will be more receptive to your garbage.

Here is something else you wrote: You know, we shouldn’t allow Rush or Ann or Mark to softly tip-toe off stage left. The lack of support by Conservative commentators was shameful. McCain was the Republican candidate and for all the “America First”, “Conservative Second” rhetoric, they failed to provide little more than tepid support, if he was lucky.

As a conservative and a grassroots immigration actvist, I had to hold my nose to vote for McCain. Palin is the only reason I didn't leave the office of President blank. The idea that we all have to fall in lockstep behind Maverick McCain is nonsense. A McCain win would have further marginalized the conservative influence within the party. McCain forced us to modify the party platform on such issues as global warming, drilling in ANWR, and immigration. McCain also depressed the RNC's fundraising efforts and much of the money that was raised was siphoned off by the McCain campaign hurting Rep candidates downballot. Nominating the self-described party maverick as your standard bearer has political consequences.

McCain became the presumptive nominee of the party with just 31% of the primary vote thanks to winner-take-all and open primaries. He did not enjoy the support of most Reps. I profoundly disagree with your criticism of Rush, Levin, and Coulter who held to their conservative principles and reluctantly supported McCain as the lesser of two evils. Like most of us, they had no choice.

You started the name calling. You have a lot to learn if you want to stick around here.

The only shows worth watching for some time, on FNC, have been Brit and Cavuto. And Brit’s panel wasn’t too swift.

Shep has been a write off since his Katrina histrionics.

Truth be told, I didn’t even plan on voting for McCain until Governor Palin was added to the ticket but now that’s neither here nor there. I think many folks here were of the same mindset.
I won’t apologize for the statement you quote. I believe Obama is a far greater danger to this nation than McCain would ever be. It’s easier to control the ship when you’re at the wheel than if you’re riding the wake. But everybody had to play “Who’s the bigger conservative. When it was time to come back and give support to the ticket after Governor Palin was chosen, they fell a bit short of credibility.
There was no disrespect toward Governor Palin intended, it was an indictment of the RNC, DNC and Beltway cabal trying to short-circuit a career before it had the opportunity to grow.
I agree with your points on ANWR, immigration and global warming and I’m no fan of CFR BUT McCain has been strong on life which alone puts him above our current president-elect. It would appear you and I have the same concerns.
I apologize for calling you a jackhole. It was immature.

Ummm...there is a difference between "accept[ing] whatever accusations" I feel like and being open minded enough to investigate before making a decision.

Sarah Palin may or may not have these faults, but until she has been thoroughly vetted through a long campaign process, I retain my right to be curious.

I will not deify anyone campaigning for president. I am not a Democrat and therefore I will use my brain and my intellect to select the person I believe most suited for office.

Sarah Palin is/was a very attractive candidate and I believe that overall she was a huge net asset to the McCain campaign, but the 2008 election is over and I want to investigate all of the candidates before I commit myself to one.

We have a lot of very good people out there and we have plenty of time to let the cream rise to the top. I don't want a repeat of 2008 in which our candidate was chosen by RINO's and was the least electable, least Conservative candidate in the field. Palin is the odds on favorite so far, but Bobby Jindal is at least as attractive of a candidate, and there are a lot more...

I fear there is a cult of Palin forming. There seems to be a sort of religious fervor for her...the same sort of reaction that Democrats had over Obama...very disturbing.

You are absolutely correct!!! Clearly Rush was speaking of McCain, not Palin, and just as clearly Rush has been unapologetically enthusiastic about Palin.

I like Sarah Palin very much, but I will not cease asking questions of our candidates simply because I like them. They must prove their worth and their mettle before I will bash everyone who asks a question or dares question their knowledge and ability. I leave that to the irrational, emotionally driven Left.

No candidate owns my vote, they must earn it. Sarah has plenty of time to do so and she begins with a head start, but questions like these must be answered, not beaten down. I had enough of that out of the Obama Campaign. If the Palinistas begin that, it will be a huge danger sign and I will avoid her like the plague.

Conservatism is Reason, not emotion. Conservative principles are arrived at through careful consideration, not knee-jerk reactions and heated emotionally charged language.
