Vanity: Fox News Says Palin Did Not Know Africa Was Continent, Not Country

Carl Cameron just said McCain campaign shocked to discover Sarah Palin did not realize Africa was a continent, believing instead that it was a country. She did not know the countries in NAFTA. She refused offered preparation for the Couric interview and threw temper tantrums over adverse press.

Wow. Dumping on Sarah in a big way. Shep asked how on Earth the McCain camp could have ended up picking such a dope (not exact words, but sense of what he said).

They did point out she seemed to help the polling numbers.

I knew this was going to be the template, but I was surprised at the level of nastiness on Fox News. Looks like elements of the McCain campaign is determined to make her the scapegoat for the loss. (Couldn't have been anything about the man at the top of the ticket.)

Carl Cameron always looks like he is on some kind of drug. He was the one that started the joy/fun-fest about McCain leaving his campaign for the bailout. He thought it was a hoot. The Fox day people could barely contain their laughter. They could have spun it differently...but they didn’t. These people are not on the side of Freedom.

Like I’m going to believe anything I see on television news ever.

I gave it up around 1981. Trust me, you won't miss a thing.

Unless you really like the ads.

I am constantly suprised by the way Romney gets blamed on Free Republic for every negative comment about Sarah Palin. Well all you Romney bashers listen up. I have it on good authority that Cindy McCain is extremely jealous of the younger Sarah and she is encouraging staffers to dis Palin to the press.

If these are true and they asked Sarah about it and she said it was false...

That means she lied and everyone that knew about it knows she’s a liar. I wouldn’t want to be known like that.

I hope these attacks on her are false.

This is like those Quayle stories that circulated in the 1980s. Quayle knew they didn’t speak Latin in Latin America. Just as Palin knows Africa is a continent, not a country.

Good point. But were the Quayle stories circulated by campaign staff? That would be the difference. I don't buy this not knowing that Africa is a continent thing. It just seems too crazy. As for the NAFTA thing, I don't hold that against her. She wasn't up to speed on national issues. You can make a good argument that she is not currently ready to be president. But I think she could be ready. And more importantly, I admire her as a person. She's a good woman. Colin Powell was at least right on that point: she is a distinguished woman.

I am very impressed at how graciously she handled herself. She didn't whine, though she did towards the end fight back against the smears on her record.

He had an estimated unspent $67 million.

But I don’t think spending it all would have been enough.

I’ve been traveling a *lot* the past couple of months and haven’t been able to keep up with the news. It’s only today I started hearing about “early interview performances” — what happened?

I tried googling Republican National Committee, Table of Organization 2008. Nothing that seemed useful came up except when I clicked the first item I was told I had all kinds of security problems on my computer that I should click to fix. Didn’t do it but had a hard time getting rid of this offer to fix my security.

“The trashing of Sarah Palin right is one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen from republicans, they make me vomit.”

I totally agree. I haven’t seen the latest, as I’ve quit watching FOX, reading the pundits, etc. I hope someone is keeping a running list of everything and everyone - whether Republicans, reporters, news readers. Let’s name names!

Tell me what is RINO about her...

Oct. 24:
In her first policy address since joining the Republican ticket, Sarah Palin called for parents of special needs children to use federal funding to pick the school of their choice...

Palin also called for full federal funding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, phasing in an additional $15 billion in funding over five years. (snip)

This all sounds like malicious and dishonest b.s. I seriously seriously doubt that Governor Palin did not know that “Africa” is the continent and that there are many different countries there (around 54 countries IIRC).

This “anecdote” is either entirely fabricated or else it is a gross distortion of something that may have happened during a briefing, such as a joke “wow, Africa, so many countries there” or “now let’s see, Africa, is that a country or a continent” ..... again as a joke...... or some comment about “South Africa” which is a country, and the person relating this alleged anecdote is the one who’s mixed up and thought she was referring to the continent of “Africa” etc.

I am not prepared to believe that the did not have any clue at all about the continent of Africa — this is the kind of crap that was pulled constantly against Reagan, Quayle etc., most often without any real foundation.

She didn’t say she could see Russia from her house. That was Tina Fey’s line on Saturday Night Live. Sarah said you could see Russia from some places in Alaska in the Charlie Gibson interview.

The media makes up stuff and puts it people’s mouths. And then we believe it.

We never get anything but Harveys and yalies.

I'm sick to death of the Ivy League d**kheads and equally as sick of the Congress Critters that act like aristocrats and think we need to be "ruled". It is long past time to remind these folks who they work for. Term limits are the answer. There is no other solution as far as I can tell.
