When you lose an election like we just did, it brings out the best those family, friends, and acquaintences of yours who don't share your political beliefs.

In 2004, I tried my best not to gloat at all because I understood that for many of our opponents, politics is their religion and to watch Kerry lose, it was like watching a family member die. I get no pleasure in being a jackass and trying to rub salt into people's wounds.

Liberals generally have no such reservations, so I'm sure we've all gotten an earful today.

So let's start a thread for posting some of the dumbest things people have said to us today at the advent of Obamanation. It might be the kind of thing we can look back on in 2010 or 2012 and say, "Oh yeah, I forgot what that little snot said."

I am so sorry. I'm 20 and lucky enough to go to a private college. We did have a girl running up the hall shouting that Obama won, and a couple people wearing Obama stickers, but I haven't heard a single word of gloating. Then again I worked in the Chaplin's Office all day.

It was great, the Chaplin’s son was singing the Russia's Communism anthem.

Our eldest son called today and he had to meet with a Black man. The man was understandably overjoyed and said the following "Obama is gonna give me money!"( This is for real).

I assume he meant the $500 check Obama promised.

Sounds great to me! After all, you are doing what any good buiness man/woman would do with what is coming. You are tightening up and having to lay off an employee is one of those things you have to do. It is comforting to know that the first one you are laying off is someone you know voted for Socialism! Depends on whether they were a "true believer" under the spell of hopenosis, or someone who saw through the smokescreen but wanted a democrat to have power at any cost. I think my coworker falls into the latter category. She knows d*** well what is coming and who will be responsible, but she knows she can use BDS to couch it as inevitable (Bush's fault) before Obama ever took office. She cares more about retreat and surrender in Afghanistan, not to mention Iraq. What I find funny is that Obama promised to reinforce Afghanistan at one point, essentially applying the surge strategy he claims wouldn't work. She probably sees through that smokescreen as well and knows Obama has every intention of weakening America's defense department as much as possible.

All that said, can you remove me from the political emails that aren’t at least somewhat factual or containing some serious points of discussion?

In exchange, I promise to be the first one in line 4 (or 8) years for you to say “I told you so” if Obama f**ks it up even half as bad as Bush.

I reminded him that I very rarely send him anything political, but that he wouldn't have to worry about ever receiving anything else, nor would he ever hear "I told you so" from me.

Well, had it been my child, I'd have reminded him that were it not for me, he would not even BE and that if he wished to be included in the Will, he would welcome and read my political emails whether he agreed with them or not.

I have a cousin who is liberal and to whom I sent some 'Obama info emails' who wrote and told me off, then asked who I was. When I told her, she was all apologetic and hoped I wasn't angry with her. I told her, "No, blood is thicker than politics." And I gave her my niece's email address, since they have that in common. I had a bet with my niece and now I must pay for a crab dinner at an expensive Baltimore restaurant (Buddy's) because Obama won. She's bringing the "Old Bay" seasoning.

Wow. That just seems bizarre and contrary. If she wishes to protect creatures who are sentient but lacking in moral agency, she could start with human babies.

Some people define themselves primarily in terms of what they are not. Against traditional modes of living instead of for any particular "better" way of living. Reflexively anti-conservative instead of truly open-minded and liberal. It's very hard to have debate and discussion with such people. They ceaselessly rationalize their opinions, and do not use all of their senses - or their heart - to form them.

It's more fruitful, I think, to talk with someone who is passionately for something and is unashamed of it. They can often be persuaded.

Maybe one approach with her would be to ask, "have you ever been surprised by your own emotional reaction to a news event?" If she answers yes, listen and find out more ("what was it/why was it?"). Her answers are the clues about the feeling person beneath the intellectual veneer, and these heartstrings are the strings to pull in any discussion with her.

The media, if you’ll notice, talks endlessly now, with a complete straight face about “expectations” in one way or another. “Tempering unreasonable expectations” and so forth! We’re just suposed to forget the unreasonable expectations before today imposed on Bush/McCain/Palin.

Saw an email the other day that said Obama’s tax increases will require lay-offs. Owner will determine who by walking through the parking lot at anyone with an Obama bumper sticker is first to go.
