I have been an Independent for most of my life but this year I registered as a Republican.
A have a friend who I've known for 22 years. He is an Obama supporter.
He has ended our friendship because I am supporting McCain and not Obama.
He has gone so far as to say that I'm not the person he thought I was all these years. I am angry and sad and a little stunned.
Anyone else having similar experiences over the election?

That happened to me a lot back in ‘92 with Clinton. I have managed to avoid it since, though I have beloved friends and family who are voting 0.
Fortunately I do not have any friends or beloved ones who are voting for Obama. However I reduce my relationship with any person I know who voted for Obama and keep the relationship with the strict boundaries of work, business, and basic courtesy. I do not need to have any close relationship with any person who voted for a socialist, a defeatist, a left wing liberal, and a racist who sat for 20 years in the church of hateful anti-American racist.
I have a former DIL (thank goodness she is ‘former!!’) who was a Dem thru and thru. (My son asked us NOT to talk politics.) This was when Clinton was running for the second time.
One day I asked her WHY she was going to vote for Clinton. I asked her to think long and hard and to consider all the baggage he carried. I also said I would not argue with her -— I simply wanted to know why she would vote for such a person. She thought for a while and then simply answered -— “Because he’s a Democrat.”

I have yet to start a thread & I've been here for years. By starting a thread, you were kind of asking for it, specially since most of us are past tired of vanity (election) season. lol
Don't know what to tell you about your friend. Almost everyone that I know is an Obot & they're all hopeful that they can get me to change my mind, yet at the same time know better.
Your story is my story. I since married a fine conservative woman.
Oh, I’m sure he counts on us not doing that. He’s in debt, but I hope we live for a long time anyway. I want to see his reaction IF the pretender Obamassiah wins this election. - One thing for sure, we will not be working as hard as we have in the past just to make money for Obama’s bunch to confiscate. I’m sure a lot of people feel that way, too. I also do not intend to bankroll abortions in the guise of “universal healthcare”.
Your friend will come around one day...the day he finds out Obama has made a complete and utter fool out of him. Meanwhile, pray for him and forgive him as best you can.

Sure have. Lost a life long friend after she took me to have my photo taken at Hillary and Bill’s new house in Chapiqua...I was visiting from CA...we’re from AL. Never in a million years would I have thought she would support Hillary but at dinner I asked her to go to a Lazio event and I would give her some money...the answer was a total shocker ~ “No, I’m a Hillary Girl!” Even worse, hysterical inside, I calmly asked what she had done to deserve being a Senator and the answer from a Stock Broker career woman was “SHE’S FOR THE CHILDREN.” I would not kid you. Use to speak weekly...now not even once a year...cannot stand stupidity. Sad but that’s life...we haven’t nothing in common any more so why have a stressed relationship? Sorry for you and it’s been hard...

The general tone reminds me of a work incident years ago. I was lamenting poor treatment at the hands of management after our team did a wonderful job pulling their fat out of the fire once again. I said something to the affect, "We are great at our jobs, why don't THEY treat us like we are the good guys?". One of the team members laughed, shook his head, and then said, "Mark, Mark, Mark! Won't you ever learn? Those are the same THEY that killed Jesus."
I'll never forget that.

This election has turned me off to many, many folks, some of them family, whom I no longer respect. Life’s too short to entertain liberals.
They do this same kind of thing over on Kos only on a far more frequent basis. Handwringing and public emoting over political breakups. Still, there is solidarity when folk can see your compatriots have similar experiences. People need to vent, and venting they are here. The best benefit is to see how utterly stupid these liberals are across the spectrum, intolerant and the whole nine yards. It reinforces what we already know.
Just remember what we are up against - and steel your minds.
The hard core cadre on the Left, these Leftist university intellectuals led by the likes of Ward Churchill and Bill Ayers and thousands of similar Communist “professors”, think nothing of arrogantly planning for the elimination of 25 million fellow citizens who don’t agree with them. Its nothing more than the old Soviet model. The Soviet regime used the same exact Marxist principals that define the Left Wing of the Democrat party eliminated approximately 62,000,000 people who didn’t agree with them between 1917 - 1987.
They want to rebuild the old Soviet Empire for the same old goal - domination of the planet by Communism. That was their goal then - and it hasn’t changed. Now they’re just pissed with the setback Reagan gave them.
When things get that bad and those are the kind of people you could face - there is no compromise, no middle ground. It pretty much comes down to a simple you or them element.
Some may seek you out to gloat should Obama win. Do you really feel the need to put up with it and give them any victory?
And should McCain win, they spend another 8 years of lying, spinning, blaming, undermining, treason, whining and the whole nine yards.
Should the Marxist win we’ll start dogging the crap out of him from day one.
We’ll stay as divided as ever. Leaders from both sides will bray and plead for us to unite. Ain’t gonna happen and we all know it. If Obama wins he’ll try to reach out. Same thing with McCain. You cannot unite a nation with two diametrically opposed ideologies. Not now, not with this Marxist and his gang.
Just don’t forget, they have been doing everything they can to defeat the troops and war effort - for purely political reasons. There is no uniting with people like that. Only an eventual once and for all fight.
Remember the “Human Shields”? Remember them doing everything they could to get more of our troops killed and put in harms way and encourage the enemy?
Never forget these traitorous bastards.
I don’t unite with anyone that considers the constitution “fundamentally flawed”. I consider anyone who would profess that a traitor and enemy. Chavez and every other dictator around the globe all say the same thing.
Best just cut ‘em off and start girding our own networks and defenses.
