I Have Lost a Friend Over the Election

Posted on 10/29/2008 2:12:34 PM PDT by libertarian9

I have been an Independent for most of my life but this year I registered as a Republican.

A have a friend who I've known for 22 years. He is an Obama supporter.

He has ended our friendship because I am supporting McCain and not Obama.

He has gone so far as to say that I'm not the person he thought I was all these years. I am angry and sad and a little stunned.

Anyone else having similar experiences over the election?

I’ll tell you from what I have known and then you can tell your friends

Liberals are the most intolerant lot I have ever come across.
If you ever have an opposing view then they just rant on and on, course never listening to any one else view.

They watch the likes of MSNBC and actually think they are telling the truth, I mean come on what utter dope think MSNBC has any credit anymore.

Sad that there are people who are so stuck up their own arse, but still I hope one day they wake up and get out of the champagne socialist, elitist racist radical loon party.

Gone are the days of that party for the working class, it is not all full of arrogant racist snobs, I mean just look at obama

1. No one should base their vote on what a friend would vote for. Base it on what you believe.

2. If a "friend" would drop you over a single vote, they were never your friend.

3. If a "friend" is so lacking in intelligence and morals as to believe and support a lying, anti-American, pro-baby-killing, marxist team like obama bin biden, do you really want them around anymore?

Your "friend" may have done you a favor . . . but hey, it's not my friend so you make the call.

Not quite, but I had a chat with my hairdresser today. She told me she is voting against anyone that has been in office.

You mean you will vote against Inhofe? Yes, she said, he has been in office to long. She said she likes Rice. I asked her why she liked him, cause he's handsome? (being flippant), tell me why you like him? He's a Christian, she said.

That's it? Inhofe is also, and has done many great things for Oklahoma and voting against tax and spend policies.

She still said he has been in office too long. I nearly blew it here, but I managed to get out "Ok, tell you what, you have been in the hair dressing business for a long time also, now why don't you just get the hell out of here, you've been here too long!"

She had the most shocked look on her face, then smiled and said she would give that some thought. We're still friends, ok.

I told her that if she had a valid reason to be voting the way she is, that would be different, but told her she is voting ignorant. She has not studied the issues or what any of them think. I do think she is voting McCain/Palin, because she did not like the Halloween hanging of Palin in Calif. Whatever it takes, I will take it.

Some people just should not be allow to vote.

My family and I are having some pretty strident discussion on our google “round robin.” Most of us are on the right side, but we have 1.5 families that aren’t. They are convinced that sharing our money is a good thing – so accusing bHo of being a socialist is actually a badge of honor for them. I think things could get really interesting at work, however, as there are several folks that aren’t shy about shilling for their man (both sides) and regardless which way this thing goes I’m expecting things to get dicey.

“I have a friend who’s a conservative but has been telling me “it’s over, BO will win” for about a month. I’ve severed ties with him until after the election. Can’t stand that negative vibe...from ANYONE.”

Yep. Me, too. I won’t let ANYBODY convince me we’re not going to win. Most of the polls show McCain down by a very small margin. IIRC, those very same polls showed Gore and Kerry ahead TOO and... gee, look what happened, we won!

As for the “friendship” thing... sad but true. I once had a long-time friend who left a message on my answering machine saying: “I don’t think I can be friends anymore with someone who likes Newt Gingrich...” Since then, I’ve learned - I prefer to have conservatives as friends - you know, people who are able to think and reason as opposed to “feeling” everything, and if I DO have acquaintances who are RATS (my daughter’s boyfriend, for example), I WON’T talk politics with them, since neither of us are going to change each other’s mind, and all they can accomplish is to convince me they’re stupid / brain dead (or both).

Yep! I lost a sister over it. She is a staunch Democrat as is all the rest of the family, except me. She hasn’t spoken to me for 18 months. So be it.......

So your friend is a Marxist and you’re an American, what’s to be sad about? Good and evil were never meant to co-exist, color your friend lost, just be glad it was him and not you.

LOL! You are right about LibChicks. The smarter ones don't mind my politics, and find my masculinity refreshing (and I'm not exactly John Wayne either, just not a sensitive new age guy).

Most of the women I've dated over the past three years or so have been foreigners, some of whom are conservative (including a gal from Iran who hates Islamofascists more than anyone on this site). Unfortunately, my current GF drinks the Dem Kool Aid, even though she is not a citizen.

“You’re too new here to be posting vanities.”

Am I too new here to tell you that I’ve seen plenty of vanities here that were really stupid? I think libertarian9’s vanity thread speaks to what many other people are facing in their personal lives and I for one am interested in hearing from others what their experiences have been.

Are you serious? Grow up. The future of our nation is at stake! Why not return to ‘group’ and share, rather than engage in such touchy-feely nonsense?

then it just shows you how stupid they are. I mean come on they watch the likes of MSNBC.
Only fools would think that was a news organization.

Anyone who votes for obama is a racist, sexist, radical nut and a champagne socialist.

Who on earth would want to be friends with that kind of person, I know I would never even associate myself with anyone like that.

REMEMBER A VOTE FOR OBAMA IS A VOTE FOR A RACIST, SEXIST RADICAL LOON SNOB.
It is a shame that those who would vote for him are around in America but sadly bigotry still lives in those country as demonstrated by the new Dem party

For those who only come into contact with like minded people on a regular basis, hearing divergent viewpoints comes as a shock; you’re challenging everything they hold dear. Their Kool-Aid is sweeter.

This is going to be one of the most divisive campaigns in U.S. history. I wouldn’t feel too bad about your friend being a moron about this. It’s a sign of the times, not anything you did.

Both my brothers tend to vote democratic so I’ve had interesting discussions with them. One stands a chance of voting for McCain because he runs his own startup and partially understands the problems with Obama. The other though is a Postal union member... so his is very much in the tank for the democrat party. I don’t usually talk politics with him but unfortunately got in a shouting match over the phone with him. Got so bad that my wife asked me to close the door.

must remember to not talk politics with him at turkey day after McCain/Palin wins.

A REAL FRIEND could agree to disagree concerning politics or other things for that matter. I guess you found out that your friend was not really a close friend after all.
