(Vanity) Enough with the Negativity Already!
A 10 year old computer and slightly older author | 10-4-08 | xDGx

A month to go and we are playing into their hands, and not without a little help. One of the idiosyncracies of FR is the News thread titles are required to be the actual article titles. Hence I'm putting this in News, because this is where the problem lies. If anyone was to sample the article titles covering the election, they would find them to be overwhelmingly negative with respect to Senator McCain and Governor Palin. Just take a quick mental sampling of what we have seen recently - and how often a "Barf Alert" or the like needs to be appended.

The net effect of all this negativity, coupled with the doom & gloom of the economic "October Surprise" is casting a pall over this and many other forums.

There are some folks who seem to thrive on gloom and doom (Y2K anyone?) and then there are the usual agitators, some recent and some longer term members who may have alternate agendas. I have seen this on EVERY board I am on over the past month. Anything to dispirit or demoralize is seized upon and leveraged. This is a known tactic to undermine an opponent's resolve.

Well resolve is what we need right now. It's one month to go, and I am not going to be dragged down by the nattering nabobs of negativity. (props to Safire, writing for Agnew)

Now is not the time to complain about McCain, mope over Michigan, or despair about the Dow. Now is the time to reject the relentless onslaught of slanted polls, Beltway bluster and mindless media chanting and quietly roll up our sleeves and get to work. And that means getting the positive message about our candidates, imperfect as they may be, out to the public.

No campaign is perfect, and this one needs our help. Today. We can argue for the next 30 days about what they should or should not be doing, or we can do something about it. Signs not in? Make your own or have some made locally. (GOPTrunk is off-line, and has possible Dem connections - that's why you are seeing Obama signs everywhere and few McCain signs) Haven't heard from the campaign? Call your local or state organizer. Maybe they NEED someone in your area. Maybe that person is you.

There's an awful lot in the balance, not the least of which are a couple of potential Supreme Court picks for the next administration, and that could change things forever. Not the kind of change we want. Yes we all wish that someone would have stood up and said no to the bailout. Considering Schumer's commments on IndyMac and Reid's on the Insurance Industry and Pelosi's comments on the first failed vote, it would not be surprising that it was a set-up from the git-go, and put our side in a no-win situtation. Wouldn't be the first time. It;s not worth ceding the election over.

You all know darn well there are folks out there actively trying to beat us before the polls open. Don't let them. There will be no glamour or glory. You may not get a lot of thank-you's. All you will get is the quiet satisfaction of knowing you did your very best.

Chin up, people, we know their game and we're not buying into it. Time to go to work.

:)

Now why would the Dem party leaders do that?

“There’s an awful lot in the balance, not the least of which are a couple of potential Supreme Court picks for the next administration”

Wait’ll McCain (who I believe will win) “reaches across the aisle” and appoints his buddy Hillary to the SCOTUS. Why do you think the Clinton’s are being so nice to McCain?

2 thoughts on that:

1) McCain would not appoint Hillary to SCOTUS. That’s even further out than him picking Lieberman, which some were ‘certain’ he was going to do.

2) Hillary wants POTUS, not SCOTUS. If McCain wins, she runs against him in 2012. Not going off to warm the (judicial) bench.

That’s a link worth repeating:

We are seeing PRECISELY what he (KGB defector in the video) is saying about using demoralization as a tool to power.

War-weary public -
(caused by Democrat PROPOGANDA-The “Public” has no real idea of what has been going on in this war, because the American media (Except FOX) wont tell them!)

Economic “crisis” -
(Caused by Democrat corruption and vote-buying policies. The Bill is now due for 40 years of Democrat Socialism. Again, the media wouldn’t DARE to tell you that.)

Hostile media - See above

GOP President with 30% approval rating -
(See above - Yet note that NO MEDIA wants to talk about about how low the DEMOCRAT CONGRESS approval is.)

80% “wrong track” numbers -
(see above, And Propoganda. If Obama wins this thing, we are about to see what a “BAD ECONOMY” really looks like. One that cannot be hidden by left-leaning media propoganda.)

Luke-warm GOP support (thanks, guys)
- (Can’t help ya with this one. the Republican Party has been so kow-towed by Democrat Propoganda that it seems it can barely function anymore.)

Enough with the self-important styled vanities about negativity.

I agree--enough with vanities, period! I've been here for many years, and never have I seen so many folks who decide that they really know something or that they have advice for the rest of us. I think I've seen more vanity posts in the last 6 weeks than I've seen here in the last 10 years.

Enough with the vanities about negativity.

I completely agree basil. I too tire of the Johnny-come-latelys coming here and trying to tell the rest of us how wrong we are or have been. I'd say they need to give the self-serving vain vanities a rest, a long rest indeed.

There are no other forums!

It’s defeatism, not negativity that’s the problem.

Now why would the Dem party leaders do that?

The Republicans were 'rope-a-doped' or put another way, 'rolled' by the dimwits. Not so dim when you think about it for a moment though. They played the Republicans like a finely tuned violin.

"Most vanities are arrogant and self-serving..."

I would suspect that that is why it's called a "vanity".

The solution though is really simple. Don't read them. I've been here a long time too and I've never seen FR so ideologically divided. Nor have I seen so many "the end of the world is nigh" type threads (unless you want to count the Y2K era but that makes me shudder to think about it). One reason there are so many vanities is because of the lack of cohesion of a greater or lesser degree right here on FR. Obviously posting an article from the MSM or the blogosphere is not going to help with our problems right here in FRLand. I think the vanities are fine. JimRob has not complained to my knowledge about it. Let it go. Do what I do, find a Zot thread and have some laughs.
