(Vanity) Enough with the Negativity Already!
A 10 year old computer and slightly older author | 10-4-08 | xDGx

Posted on 10/04/2008 5:57:46 AM PDT by xDGx

A month to go and we are playing into their hands, and not without a little help. One of the idiosyncracies of FR is the News thread titles are required to be the actual article titles. Hence I'm putting this in News, because this is where the problem lies. If anyone was to sample the article titles covering the election, they would find them to be overwhelmingly negative with respect to Senator McCain and Governor Palin. Just take a quick mental sampling of what we have seen recently - and how often a "Barf Alert" or the like needs to be appended.

The net effect of all this negativity, coupled with the doom & gloom of the economic "October Surprise" is casting a pall over this and many other forums.

There are some folks who seem to thrive on gloom and doom (Y2K anyone?) and then there are the usual agitators, some recent and some longer term members who may have alternate agendas. I have seen this on EVERY board I am on over the past month. Anything to dispirit or demoralize is seized upon and leveraged. This is a known tactic to undermine an opponent's resolve.

Well resolve is what we need right now. It's one month to go, and I am not going to be dragged down by the nattering nabobs of negativity. (props to Safire, writing for Agnew)

Now is not the time to complain about McCain, mope over Michigan, or despair about the Dow. Now is the time to reject the relentless onslaught of slanted polls, Beltway bluster and mindless media chanting and quietly roll up our sleeves and get to work. And that means getting the positive message about our candidates, imperfect as they may be, out to the public.

No campaign is perfect, and this one needs our help. Today. We can argue for the next 30 days about what they should or should not be doing, or we can do something about it. Signs not in? Make your own or have some made locally. (GOPTrunk is off-line, and has possible Dem connections - that's why you are seeing Obama signs everywhere and few McCain signs) Haven't heard from the campaign? Call your local or state organizer. Maybe they NEED someone in your area. Maybe that person is you.

There's an awful lot in the balance, not the least of which are a couple of potential Supreme Court picks for the next administration, and that could change things forever. Not the kind of change we want. Yes we all wish that someone would have stood up and said no to the bailout. Considering Schumer's commments on IndyMac and Reid's on the Insurance Industry and Pelosi's comments on the first failed vote, it would not be surprising that it was a set-up from the git-go, and put our side in a no-win situtation. Wouldn't be the first time. It;s not worth ceding the election over.

You all know darn well there are folks out there actively trying to beat us before the polls open. Don't let them. There will be no glamour or glory. You may not get a lot of thank-you's. All you will get is the quiet satisfaction of knowing you did your very best.

Chin up, people, we know their game and we're not buying into it. Time to go to work.

:)

“The fact of the matter is that most everyone here at FR either did not want John McCain as the nominee or has been unhappy with the way the campaign has been waged. Another fact is that most everyone here at FR is going to vote for John McCain.”

Spot on! It’s not enthusiastic support but it is support nonetheless. I even have a yard sign up, though I will not give his campaign a dime. That’s where I draw the line. That money is better spent on conservative candidates in Ohio.

I’m busting my ass next door.

The best economic plan is one you make for yourself, not waiting around for the government to make one for you. We need you guys to pull off another 2004. You can do it.

Exactly how many fights in your life have you won?

Signs? So you will get your house vandalized, or your car keyed, or worse?

We fight this despicable enemy with gloves on, and a smile on our lips, while they bombard us with lies and and a constant barrage of socialist propaganda 24/7/365.

We have been outgunned and outmaneuvered by this relentless enemy for well over 50 years.

We are now surrounded by them, and their pathetic followers who are screaming for more milk from the teat.

Time to go to work? Nay brother ... It is time to go to the mat, or join these socialist dogs.

I for one have had it with all the positive vanities. Too many people here have a positive attitude. What is that all about???

I agree--enough with vanities, period! I've been here for many years, and never have I seen so many folks who decide that they really know something or that they have advice for the rest of us. I think I've seen more vanity posts in the last 6 weeks than I've seen here in the last 10 years. Most vanities are arrogant and self-serving--and this one is no exception.

What YOU said!!!!

What really gets me is when people post to the vanity threads. Don’t they know all they are doing is bumping that thread to the top and promoting it so others can read it? They are just adding to the problem. I can’t stand it!!!

Oh not grumpy at all. Actually in a bit of a fired-up mood this morning. And you wouldn’t know it from the weather here either, rainy & gray. I think after Sarah’s performance on Thursday (you go girl!) and the expected debacle on Friday (thanks Congress, you bums) it sort of set the table for what to expect in the home stretch. Barring any unforeseen developments in the two remaining debates or surprises from either side, I think this is what we are going to have to deal with up until the election.

It’s that clarity that enables us now to focus on what needs done. The enemy camp has a very well-funded machine that is cranking out stuff relentlessly, even on the street level. This is not a game of hail-Mary passes (to borrow the hackneyed phrase from the press) but an ugly, grind-it-out ground game. They need us.

Unfortunately, Woody is dead and John McCain ain’t no Woody Hayes, at least here in Ohio. Now Sarah is someone that Woody could admire.

You are right and yet, FR is a place where people can come and express their thoughts, especially the negative ones. My guess is that everyone expressing themselves, good or bad, is going to vote for McCain as they absolutely can't stand the thought of 0bama and his friends running our country.

Other than the VP debate, this has been an absolutely horrible couple of weeks for the country, McCain and for us. So again, you are right, but then, so are all of us who are on our knees praying and begging McCain to fight. There is time for him to re-group and go Patreus surge all over 0bama.
