(Vanity) Enough with the Negativity Already!
A 10 year old computer and slightly older author | 10-4-08 | xDGx

Posted on 10/04/2008 5:57:46 AM PDT by xDGx

A month to go and we are playing into their hands, and not without a little help. One of the idiosyncracies of FR is the News thread titles are required to be the actual article titles. Hence I'm putting this in News, because this is where the problem lies. If anyone was to sample the article titles covering the election, they would find them to be overwhelmingly negative with respect to Senator McCain and Governor Palin. Just take a quick mental sampling of what we have seen recently - and how often a "Barf Alert" or the like needs to be appended.

The net effect of all this negativity, coupled with the doom & gloom of the economic "October Surprise" is casting a pall over this and many other forums.

There are some folks who seem to thrive on gloom and doom (Y2K anyone?) and then there are the usual agitators, some recent and some longer term members who may have alternate agendas. I have seen this on EVERY board I am on over the past month. Anything to dispirit or demoralize is seized upon and leveraged. This is a known tactic to undermine an opponent's resolve.

Well resolve is what we need right now. It's one month to go, and I am not going to be dragged down by the nattering nabobs of negativity. (props to Safire, writing for Agnew)

Now is not the time to complain about McCain, mope over Michigan, or despair about the Dow. Now is the time to reject the relentless onslaught of slanted polls, Beltway bluster and mindless media chanting and quietly roll up our sleeves and get to work. And that means getting the positive message about our candidates, imperfect as they may be, out to the public.

No campaign is perfect, and this one needs our help. Today. We can argue for the next 30 days about what they should or should not be doing, or we can do something about it. Signs not in? Make your own or have some made locally. (GOPTrunk is off-line, and has possible Dem connections - that's why you are seeing Obama signs everywhere and few McCain signs) Haven't heard from the campaign? Call your local or state organizer. Maybe they NEED someone in your area. Maybe that person is you.

There's an awful lot in the balance, not the least of which are a couple of potential Supreme Court picks for the next administration, and that could change things forever. Not the kind of change we want. Yes we all wish that someone would have stood up and said no to the bailout. Considering Schumer's commments on IndyMac and Reid's on the Insurance Industry and Pelosi's comments on the first failed vote, it would not be surprising that it was a set-up from the git-go, and put our side in a no-win situtation. Wouldn't be the first time. It;s not worth ceding the election over.

You all know darn well there are folks out there actively trying to beat us before the polls open. Don't let them. There will be no glamour or glory. You may not get a lot of thank-you's. All you will get is the quiet satisfaction of knowing you did your very best.

Chin up, people, we know their game and we're not buying into it. Time to go to work.

:)

And that, dear friends, is a shining example right there.

I agree--enough with vanities, period! I've been here for many years, and never have I seen so many folks who decide that they really know something or that they have advice for the rest of us. I think I've seen more vanity posts in the last 6 weeks than I've seen here in the last 10 years.

Most vanities are arrogant and self-serving--and this one is no exception.

Agreed. Perhaps an “Enough with the Vanities” vanity would help better address the issue. :)

Thank you. We need to get a grip and get busy on the Victory Train. The alternative is beyond our worst nightmare.

The fact of the matter is that most everyone here at FR either did not want John McCain as the nominee or has been unhappy with the way the campaign has been waged. Another fact is that most everyone here at FR is going to vote for John McCain.

War-weary public
Economic “crisis”
Hostile media
GOP President with 30% approval rating
80% “wrong track” numbers
Luke-warm GOP support (thanks, guys)

And, yet, McCain is within the MOE!!!!!

Get fired-up!!

Guilty as charged. Yes, there are a couple others out there - might mean there is some truth to it ;)

Wouldn’t mind seeing a similar post every single day up until the election. Doubtlesss this would drive the jaded, tenured curmudgeons to despair, as they grouse about the temerity of someone who has not posted since the dim time having the unmitigated audacity to make an observation.

If it gets one person off their kiester to call up the campaign and volunteer, then it’s worth it!

Have a good one! :)

If we don’t talk about it, it can’t be true. LOL

Well you better get off your ass and come to Ohio and convey an economic plan on behalf of McCain that will appeal to Ohioans. Otherwise, he’s toast.

See you in the Buckeye state!

You did leave out the childish re-post and re-post and re-post of the same spin stories passed off as news.
