Like an MSM version of Nancy Pelosi, whose hyper-partisan floor speech reportedly angered many GOP members, Chris Matthews wasted no time in trying to pin the blame for the defeat of the bailout plan on John McCain. Appearing during MSNBC's 2 PM hour, the key to Matthews' argument was his assertion that Dems "overwhelmingly" supported the measure, whereas McCain failed to rally a sufficient number of Democrats.
Love the bailout or hate it. Decry its defeat or rejoice in it. But one thing is clear: Matthews grossly misstated the facts. Far from supporting the plan "overwhelmingly," fully 40% of House Dems voted against it: a margin of 141-94. Republicans, the more free-market oriented of the two parties, were always more wary of the plan. It was clear that passage was largely going to depend on massive Dem support. It was Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama who truly failed to deliver.

No, the picture at posting one was Chris. I did also post a thanks for the picture of Hoyer saying, “Ohhh, (deleted)!” The posting that used “Chrissy” came from one of the folks who’d like to waste effort pounding on a turd. Turds can nurture plants, and therefore have value. Matthews doesn’t.

My wife and I have been debating for weeks about whether Crissy or Oberdorff will expire first. I say Oberdorff by Cerebral Aneurysm and she says Crissy by massive Cardiac Arrest. We do not differ on the reasons.

In looking at the Dem ‘Nay’ votes I noticed that many members of the Black Congressional Caucus were present in large numbers, incl. Conyers(MI), Lewis(GA), Jackson-Lee(TX), Jefferson(LA), Clay(MO), Scott(VA), Cummings(MD), ...
I did notice that (Aunt Esther)Waters & Ellison(MN) voted Yea, but I’m sure there were enough nay-voting BCC members to get the bill passed.
Why didn’t Obama weigh in with these members to get the bill passed? Or perhaps Matthews is blaming McCain for the failure to brings these Dem house members on board.
How in the world can a minority party pass a veto proof bill with the Republicans only hold less then 1/2 the votes in congress...veto proof is OVER 2/3 of the entire 435 members.
